Hey Tim, great video. I have the mini 322 (same basic grapple) from Precision Mfg. Second day of using it I bent the left claw just like you did only 2-3 times worse. I was trying to rake and got it a little too deep in the dirt. The inboard side of the left caught an old buried stump made a terrible twist, about 12 to 18 inches out of original position. Well I felt bad, I surely "knocked the new" off of it. Loaded it up and took it to my local machine shop. The shop owner looked it over and said the didn't have any equipment large enough to fix the bend/twist. He did have an excellent suggestion. He said the tractor bent it so the tractor should be able to bent it back. Placed a 16" round log piece (about 24" long) under the outboard edge of the left claw and clamped down on it. Had the tractor in 4WD low range loader low to ground and grapple vertical and placed the bent edge up against an old 28" pine tree. That allowed the tractor to bend the inboard edge back beyond it's original configuration. As the shop owner said, you have to bend it beyond the orignal position as the metal will spring back. He was spot on. The tractor dug four big holes as it pushed againt the tree that was not going to move. Sure enough the tines straightened out and realigned the twist. The bent edge wound up less than 1/2" from it original configuration. Unless you had seen it in the bent condition, you would never know it was damaged. Raking of loose limbs and debris is OK, but never put the claw tines in the dirt. If you hit a big root or rock, you will bend the claws.

I see what you mean about the two jaws being better than one. Its almost twice the price also so knowing that I wasn't going to use it all the time I got the Land Pride. Its a good unit but the double would be better if they were compliably priced. Any grapple bucket is a work saver and I'm not getting younger. I'm having to find ways to get the work done without having down time to recover. Getting old is truly lovely !?

I had a huge stump and put a campfire ring around it and just kept burning it. It was gone in 3 days. I then used a middle buster that I removed the plow part and welded a 24” hook to it. This pulled out all the roots.

tearing up bending stuff is only way to find where stuff needs improvement. so when someone buys this tool they know not to do certain things but after stuff gets strengthened so you don’t have to worry about the rut rough raggy.

Surprising how easily that grapple bent. I have to admit that I almost bought that same grapple but didn't like how there was no hinge below the cylinder and I was concerned about the weight reduction cutouts. I ended up going with a low cost, simple design; thinking that when I broke it I'd buy a higher quality grapple but... I've been doing things identical to that, including both pulling and pushing as hard as possible with both the front and back edges on my grapple, lifting huge logs, prying against roots, removing stumps, and moving large rocks around. I've even regularly been wedging the front section of my grapple between roots and using both the hydraulics and the tractor in 4wd low range to pry the roots apart. I also use the front edge of the grapple to push my biggest log piles away from the tractor to make more space for more logs. The only issue I'm having is my grapple doesn't have bushings or bearings and all of the joints are starting to get a bit sloppy. Mine is made out of a fairly high strength steel but instead of bushings it just has drilled holes with a large nut and bolt through them. I've been squirting grease with a grease gun needle fitting (since day 1) down to the bolts. After about 100 hours of constant heavy abuse, as mentioned above, the joints are getting noticeably sloppy but nothing looks bent at all and it still works perfectly. My tractor is admittedly a sub-compact, stock 1025R but it does have a 550 lb offset flail mower still on the back (it does a great job mulching up small trees and branches), all 4 tires are filled and the hydraulic pressure is set very slightly above stock (~2200 psi @2000 rpm). So far I've managed to put 150 hours on it this summer (still dealing with the nightmare storm damage that uprooted and snapped well over 500 trees on my property and tore half the roof of my barn). I don't want to advertise for the company who made mine here but it was a very good price (I paid $1199.99 last November; current price is $1399.99) and the 48" root rake grapple is a great match for the 1025R. For the price I'm more than happy with it. Edit: there is one minor issue I'm having with using the grapple and that is by the time I get to the wood pile the grapple isn't clamped tight on the load and brush & logs can fall out. I believe the issue is with the Summit Hydraulics spool valve having a significant amount of internal leakdown (I have the same issue with the hydraulic top link and the flail mower's offset and rotation) but it is possible there is a small internal leak in the cylinder. My workaround is to regularly tap the "close grapple" button on the joystick while driving to the wood pile.

The bending had nothing to do with the hydraulic pressure of the tractor. It’s basically the same problem that can happen by back-dragging with a bucket. With the hydraulic control in “neutral”, the implement(bucket or grapple) is locked in place and hence unprotected by the relief valve. Thus much more force can be exerted on the implement than it’s designed for. It’s how bucket rams get bent, and in this case, the grapple bent.

When having the Heavy Hitch Toothbar attached to the 1025r bucket I was able to dig up brush and small trees pretty easily. Had to clear up a large area that I dug a 150' trench through. I hauled away all of this brush and trees with the bucket (the teeth really help to hold stuff in the bucket). There was no need for a grapple (yet).

Enjoyed the video as always. I really love these back home on the farm videos with all your family involved. These are always a welcome treat to watch on your channel. I have to say it looks like you were having about the same luck I had with only clam shell grapple I ever owned. Owned being the key word, I hated that thing, it went gonzo from here pretty quick like. About half the time whatever I picked up ended up back on the ground and I was having to pick it up again sort of how it was working for you not only in this video and others I have seen in the past. I broke mine too, Mine was a larger Deere model that came with my 5M series tractor, I much prefer a grapple with more bucket shaped or more lower cradle to it and one that has as complete coverage of the top section as I can get. Clamshells never seem to have the grip I am looking for, I found the Clam shell style I had to be very frustrating to use.

If you could rotate the guard or remove a portion of the rear part of the guard on that stump grinder, you could grind into the bottom sides of the stump, creating a "thinner" portion that would let the backhoe break off a larger top portion of the stump, without having to grind so much of it. This would likely be seen as a safety concern for many, so probably why it is not setup to allow that..... I think since this video was taken, you have a horizontal grinder/cutter that would have basically done this (maybe why you looked for that....). I have the 322 mini grapple on my Kioti DK50SE cab, it has the side mounted cylinders, it has different clamps than the 320, though I could see how having an additional pivot mount for the center tine on each clamp would make it stronger (the side mounted cylinder clamp pivot looks well designed though). So far I haven't bent it. I have used it to pull loose branches backwards some, not rocks and have lightly combed the soil with it the same way so I think it is pretty strong, but it is risky doing that as it isn't meant to be used like that (probably won't do that any more, at-least much more.....). Anyways, good video, great to see all the interaction, have a good one!!

Hey how long did it take to grind it
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 2 жыл бұрын
We didn’t grind very long. Most of our time was after the main stump was gone…we spent a lot of time getting the last surface roots dug out with the grapple, and getting the land smooth again.

Can you use a stump grinder on a 2014 year 1025R?

Yes. The 1P24 from Baumalight is a good fit. ShopGreenDealer.com/ttwt use code ttwt for a five percent discount.

A chainsaw could have probably cut that down to grinding height. Even if you would have sliced it into sections like a pie and then come across horizontal.

Artillian or maybe the new Mini327 from Precision. I have it here..but have not tried it. Intend to do so soon.

My first thought was " It would be a lot faster and easier to top that stump with a chainsaw". But after Randall pulled that brick out I guess it wouldn't have been good had the chain hit the brick.

I think it would e great if Precision mfg could make a grapple to fit on a stump for the tractor type of stump buckets. Suggest it to them as you have their ear.

Nothing is indestructible, but most farm equipment will withstand more abuse that that grapple. Even with the fix it still appears frail. Its useful for its intended, but narrow, purpose.

Sometimes a wheelbarrow and physical labor is the best way, or the old ways. How about a stick of Dynamite on the 4th of July.

i mean you definitely abused it. as far as i know, the number 1 rule is don't do exactly what you did haha. they are made to be strong enough for the hydraulics. if those didn't bend it would have put all that force into your hydraulic system. Great learning and teaching opportunity for all of your viewers. As usual I love the videos!
