Hi Jonny, thank you for a depressing video. Very sad to see. However, erosion of coastal areas is nothing new. In the 1950s we had a beach house at a place north of Wellington in New Zealand, it was one street back from the beach. My parents never bought houses actually on the beach because of erosion and storms. They had beach houses from the mid 1930s to 1958. The last house was built by my father’s company and was very modern. It was purchased by a wealthy farmer who wanted it exactly as it was. They just walked out. I was allowed to take my toys though! All the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺

Great historical record Jonny, it's a sad sight to see! I spent many hours on that beach in the 70's which seemed way longer to the shore line back then.

This is absolutely devastating for the owners of the chalets. I cannot imagine the distress they felt when they were told their chalets/homes were going to be pulled down. I hope they were not there to witness it happen as I know I would not like to see my home being demolished. At the start of your video, the beach looks like the opening scene from a war film. Sea defences should be a priority to safeguard other properties around our coastline. It was so evident from your filming the difference it certainly makes.

Brillant video Jonny, also good to see Millie enjoying herself. A very informative but very tragic for those who have lost their properties.

Yes a very emotional thing to witness and totally gutted for those who have lost their homes. Mills didn’t have a care in the world though and loved her run on the beach.

I used to take my holidays not far from this place over 40 years ago and the coastline was being eroded then.....When Cameron was Prime Minister he was asked then "what are you going to do about the East Coast Erosion ?",His reply ?......Absolutely Nothing !!!!

cannot really stop erosion ,the sea just moves the coast line around ,loose a bit there ,gain a bit somewhere else, yes people do loose there properties ,but can be moved ,something we do not do much in this country, in Australia they move whole houses ,sometimes over long distances ,and in some other places

really shows how scarily destructive nature is if i lived on an eroding coastline id be crapping me self do feel sorry for the poor sods having to live with it i didnt half find it weird when that tracked dumper just suddenly shifted its body round like a digger first thought i was seeing something till i replayed that bit to prove to me self i just saw a tracked dumper shift its body round

So sad to see this happening for the Home/Chalet owners and lovers of Hemsby. With much asked for help from the Government this could have been avoided but ignored.😡😡

Absolutely. A complete travesty!

The parasites in power would rather pi ss our money into the wind or pay for wars we can not win and that do not concern us! When you realise you are just sh it on their shoes it all becomes clear!

Can the owners rebuild on the same spot if they construct the building high up on pilings? I assume they still own the same plot even at the lower elevation down at the beach.

I doubt that, they would be surrounded by water

Just been watching a piece on the news about Blackpool planting Christmas trees in the sand on the beach! apparently its a ongoing thing with a large team of people taking part. The trees break the waves and help re-establish the Sand Dunes. This is what should have been happening in Norfolk some years back! I would imagine planting Japanese Knotweed in the sand could be helpful in strengthening the sand cliffs!

Oh interesting, I’ll have to look that up.
