i am one of those few people who have had the luxury of washing a barn find, when i was 13, i was looking through the garage on my grandpa's lake property from settler times. i climbed my way past the boat to find a beautiful 1967 ford galaxie 500, it was a 2 door fastback with a cruise o'matic FX transmission and a 289 v8 engine, the outer paint was blue as the sky with a pristine vinyl interior to match. it was the car that my father drove to grade 10 and had the shit beaten out of it by a man only known as caretaker jerry. the car only had 72,860 actual miles and my dad still had the keys, i laid claim to it, we pulled it out of the garage with ratchet straps and started it for the first time since 1992. the satisfaction of washing off decades of mouse poo and dust to reveal that paint was satisfying, the years of polish my dad put on really made it glisten in the light. As of today we are still repairing it but we have gone for late day cruises, only the gas tank and the water pump need fixed, thank god that noisy valve lifter fixed itself. once this project is done, i intend to revive the other cars i found in that garage, a 1950 ford custom, a 1928 model A and an in pieces 1926 model T

True. The Grandfather of a friend of mine had a 1930's Lagonda on stands in his barn. (UK) During the winter, he would place a paraffin-kerosene sump heater under it to stop it freezing. It was covered in blankets too, so I never saw anything other than the front. I'm sure he meant to work on it, but his health was failing. I lost touch decades ago. I wonder where it is now. Though I do wonder if they could just do that (the safety/crumple zones etc) with this style, that'd be pretty sweet. Not the same, but still, everything's so same-y now that you wouldn't have to do much to stick out and look 'retro'.

1950 Chevy, 1940 Plymouth 1959 Ford, 1968 Chevy, 1963,64 Plymouth, 1962 VW, 1968 Datsun, 1970 Triump. All these cars had enamel paint. Later is when acrylic enamel showed up.
