I like to say another word. Not to many videos will touch my heart. This one did put tears into my eyes . My dad wore his DKW lapel pin until he died. He had a new trunk , made out of wood, replaced . I remember at a time in the alps. The car didn’t had the power to go up a very steep hill. Guess what, backwards it worked. Different gearing. My older brother became a first class DKW mechanic. He was again in seventh heaven when east Germany opened the border. He worked for F&S in Schweinfurt and the company helped the Trabi owners. Don’t let this beautiful car die

A 1939 DKW barn find rescue is an exciting project, especially when the car has spent 60 years at a junkyard. DKW (Dampf-Kraft-Wagen) was a German car and motorcycle brand known for pioneering two-stroke engines and producing small, affordable vehicles. Rescuing such a vehicle involves a detailed restoration process to bring the car back to its former glory.

The Wehrmacht did not like two strokes - probably because of the fact that you have to fill in oil before petrol. So many civilan owners could keep their DKWs. After the war they made a couple of units at the original factory in Zwickau Saxony under the nationalised car industry's brand IFA F8. For the lack of cars in comunist East Germany they were quite common until the mid 70ies.

It was part of Auto Union, like Audi, the latter being the only surviving brand name out of that conglomerate. The four rings signified the four brands (DKW, Audi, Horch, Wanderer) that joined to form Auto Union in 1932. After the original factories were seized by the Soviets following WWII, Auto Union moved to Southern Germany (Ingolstadt). The new company dropped all brands but DKW. In 1958 the company was sold to Daimler-Benz and in 1964 to VW. In 1965 the production of two-stroke cars (except for the military Munga) ended and the new cars with four-stroke engines were branded Audi.

@becconvideo22 күн бұрын
The F8 does not have any mixer. The helpful attendant at the petrol station would have filled up oil and then petrol. Mixers appeared in the early 60ies in West Germany and were a complete failure. In the East we had mixer pumps all over due to the sheer number of two stroke Trabants, Wartburgs as well as MZ and Simson motorcycles. I wonder how it was in Sweden - where they had quite a few Saabs with blue cloud propulsion.

Tack, så skönt. Inte ett evigt onödigt babblande genpm hela inslaget. Bara ljuden och det trevliga äventyret med en gammal bil :). Mera sånt

Very cool. Brought a lost piece of pretty cool artwork back to life in a pretty cool way. Would love to see it fully restored. :O)

Fantastiskt.
