I show you how to make a pot of coffee and how much coffee to use. I show you how it brews the coffee grounds and I show you what the switches on the front do. I show you how to clean and if parts are dishwasher safe. I brew a pot of starbucks coffee and show you it is the best tasting coffee I have had at home. I show you how big it is and if it will fit under a kitchen cabinet. I show you how to remove the brew basket and what type of coffee filter to use, a number # 4 cone filter. I show you the brew head and how hot the water is that brews the coffee. I show you how hot your cup of coffee is after it is done brewing. he hot-plate has two settings, giving you the choice to hold your coffee between 175° and 185° F, while never burning your Coffee. After 100 minutes, The hot-plate will automatically turn-off. All Moccamaster coffeemakers are handmade in the Netherlands and backed by an industry leading 5-year. Made with durable metal housings and BPA/BPS/BPF & Phthalate free plastics. The Moccamaster KBG coffee maker model features a glass carafe and an automatic drip-stop brew-basket that stops the flow of coffee if the carafe is pulled away. The KBG brews a full 40oz pot of coffee in six minutes. Coffee is held on our unique hot plate; which is engineered with a separate, independent element that rolls heat into the coffee to ensure an even taste from the first cup to the last drop. The hot plate has two settings, giving you the choice to hold your coffee at 175° or 185°.

We use a Moccamaster with a thermal carafe at home and love it. I'm definitely a Technivorm fanboy. Like Naughtysauce mentioned below, consider buying whole bean and using a burr grinder. We use 50-55 grams of coffee per liter of filtered or purified water. A digital kitchen scale is a great way to ensure consistency rather than scoops. Also, we rinse the paper filters with hot water before adding the coffee to cut down on any paper taste and preheat the carafe. Great video!

Nice video and channel. I'm not much into pod brewing but if I was, I'd be all over your other videos. They are detailed with good lighting and you speak like I do... You should think about recording your coffee journey, asking for feedback along the way. Maybe next try the different ratio's. Moccamaster actually recommends an 1:18. So 55 grams for a full liter or 28 grams for 500ml which would fill a 16oz mug. As my contribution/tip, always pre-wash your filter. Only takes a sec and can remove any unwanted bleached paper taste. Good luck and I hope to see another Moccamaster video from you soon.

Great video. As someone else already mentioned, I'd consider getting a good burr grinder and grinding your coffee beans fresh every morning. As someone who always bought ground coffee prior to buying my Moccamaster 5 years ago, I've noticed a difference in taste between pre-ground coffee and whole bean coffee. I also have the KGB. Even on the low setting you'll notice any remaining coffee will begin to take on a more bitter, burnt taste after about 20 minutes on the hotplate. I counter this by using an old Stanley thermos I've preheated with hot water. It keeps any remaining coffee hot for hours. :) Enjoy your Moccamaster.

I have a very very old moccamaster I managed to damage it over flowed a few times guessing maybe the coffee filter . Then I left it turned on many times over the years , another guess the over heating safety finally failed . Pro's some of the best home brewed coffee I've ever had, cons the thermos didn't keep the coffee hot as long as I would have liked. After watching many KZbin reviews of the moccamaster the newest version doesn't look as well built as my old moccamaster. I tried brewing the coffee directly into a preheated thermax work thermos it was just so difficult setting it up because the thermos was taller than the moccamaster craft . I asked about sending a rebuild kit to me they want you to send it to the factory .

Thank you for the fantastic review! I have seen on one of the Technivorm videos that they recommend stirring the coffee as it's blooming , which they claim would enhance the flavor. I am curious, though, how would you compare the taste of the coffee as compared to the Ninja CFT301? Is there a tremendous difference that would be worth upgrading to, or would there be diminishing returns?
@JustADad

This is a great question and I get this one more than you might think. I do believe the Moccamaster makes better tasting coffee, but I know what people want for me to answer (is it worth paying $350 for a coffee maker) That is just a hard one to answer. The mocamaster is limited in that it only does a pot of coffee and the Carafe that moccamaster makes is kind of cheap. The Ninja dual brew pro is so versatile and can do so many more things. K cup, hot water, brew into travel mug, on and on. You can buy the Ninja for $200, and the Moccamaster for $350. Does the coffee taste that much better? To me I have to answer no but I am not an expert on this. I love the moccoamster and I feel in love with it the first time I used it, My wife loves it because it looks and does not take up much room on counter. So I may not have been much help sorry.

@@JustADad Thank you, I believe you answered my question. I have the dual brew, and I do like the coffee it produces. But if I can find a second hand moccamaster for a good price, I might have second thoughts. :)

If I purchased this machine & just wanted to make 2 cups of coffee, is that doable? I imagine I’d fill up the reservoir to that amount and add in the appropriate grounds amount to the filter. Is this true? I’m the only coffee drinker in my home so don’t usually make a half to full pot everyday

If you have the Moccamaster with the 3 setting brew basket that sits on a round base, you can very easily swivel the brew basket slowly back and forth for a few seconds. Perhaps a minute or there about for a more even wetting of the coffee grounds. Also, if you wish just swivel it periodically throughout so that the force of the water doesn't burrow a divit in the grounds. Also note that freshly roasted whole beans, when ground just before brewing will SWELL much more than preground grocery store bought coffee making it a bit more difficult to evenly wet the grounds. If freshly ground freshly roasted coffee is just left alone to brew all on it's own, you'll find that a lot of the grounds to the side are not wetted like the grounds closest to the reservoir. Some tweaking may be necessary for best results. I find the Basket with 3 setting brew basket that sits on a circular base offers the most flexibility as opposed the the brew basket with the rectangular bottom that sits in a rectangular slot. Wider shower heads are an option. There are numerous ways to improvise a multi hole shower head. The brew basket lid of an old coffee perculator if the holes are big enough.. Find a simple way to support the lid on top of the brew basket may achieve that aim since there are plenty of drain holes. You can also use cream cheese container with the sides cut off with an approximate 1/4 inch or so remaining and drill multiple holes in it giving you a nice wide shower head if the plastic is safe for use with hot water only. Just don't have the drain areal too wide so that it does not disperse directly on wall of the brew basket. Keep in mind that you may not get the same turbulence that water directly dispersing from the shower arm offers. Experiment !! It's fun !!mmm

It really seems like you're just scratching the surface when it comes to quality coffee making. Buy a quality bur grinder, only use filtered water, pour over style coffee, are just the beginning. I would suggest checking out and reviewing an Aeropress which is my daily driver when I have extra time in the morning. If you want an extremely cheap singe serve option to this style drip coffee, review the Clever Coffee. Once you go down those routes, it will make coffee's coming out of those pod style coffee makers taste like swill.

I really think it depends on the person and the situation. For example I like and understand the idea of the ritual itself when it comes to handbrewing and stuff. But, honestly, I personally don’t really taste a difference between a handbrewn and the same coffee out of a nice machine. I can taste the difference between different coffees of course or the difference between coarse and finer grinds. Personally I often just „need a coffee“ and simply just don’t drink it for the reason of enjoyment, but for the caffeine. I think this machine is the best I can get out of it without making it overcomplicated or trying to make myself a connoisseur where I‘m definitely just a guy that doesn’t like to drink bad coffee. The biggest step for me was to buy a grinder and stop buying cheap pre-ground powder… But of course I know there are people who can taste a difference and enjoy getting the maximum out of it. Best wishes and thanks for the vid.
