We love our Moccamaster. It is recommended to use fresh ground coffee, medium to coarse grind. The coffee is hot and delicious. The technology in which the water is released is unique in itself. Well worth the money.

I'm just like you, for years I had a couple $30 coffee brewers. Almost 2 years ago I purchased the moccamaster. Same results!!! Consistent water temperatures, and I use filtered water and delime every 100 brews. I've done tons of research. It's basically the same coffee brewer from 1968!!! Minor upgrades. That's incredible by any means!!!!

I picked up a Hamilton Beach drip coffee maker for abut the same price as the Mr Coffee. It had to be replace twice due to tank leaks. (I had bought an extended warranty) Now I'm on my third unit and I've been looking at the Moccamaster. It's got so many great reviews and I'm done tossing these cheap coffee makers in to a landfill. Thank you for the side by side comparison.

Awesome video, dude! Yeah, the speed and smooth flavor from the Moccamaster is what shocked me, and got me interested. I was at this company, and they had one, which I had never seen before, and it was so fast! So I decided to go out and look for one, and the price tag shocked me too; but I figured it was gonna be a heck of a lot cheaper than going to starbucks every morning. I'm curious about the lid on the carafe. I wonder if it really makes a difference. I figure it's probably gonna keep the coffee warmer, while it's dripping in; but again, not sure how much of a difference that makes. Also, just a side note; their thermal carafe is amazing. I prefer the glass carafe, because I can see how clean and fresh it is, and I think it's easier to clean; but the thermal carafe keeps the coffee very warm for hours! Another nice thing about the Moccamaster is that I can make just 3 cups of coffee, and it's stronger, so I don't have to waste as much coffee. 3 cups is about 16 oz; so it's pretty much a single serving of a Starbucks Grande size. I can't drink as much coffee these days, because I have a migraine problem; so being able to do a single serve like this is nice. But in fairness, I think you'll get that benefit from any cone-style coffee maker; and you can get em for probably like $40-$60. ** Another thing I love about the Moccamaster is how accessible and cleanable it is. Like, most coffee makers, the water resevoir is hard to get into, if you wanted to wipe it out . Also, there's not a lot of nooks and cranies that are difficult to clean. And they way they designed the lid on the glass carafe makes it really easy to pop off and clean it properly. ** I also like Mr. Coffee's cheap makers. They were my favorite for many years, because they were the first ones I found that had a shower that didn't spray you in the face when you open the lid; and their carafe didn't spill and dribble like many others did.

Pour water into MrC, and turn the shower head to the rear, and turn it on to recirculate and pre heat the water. Use 18:1 ratio. When the water coming out of the shower head gets to 190+, put the shower head over the grounds. Do not put the carafe in yet. Cover the grounds with water, and put the shower head back to the recirculate and let the grounds bloom 30 seconds. stir the grounds. Put the shower head back over the grounds and the carafe on the warmer. When it stops gurgling water, turn off the MrC. When it stops dripping pour into thermos. It will be much better coffee. ...Or you can spend $350 on the MM.

I've owned both, moccamaster was a gift. The moccamaster is better, but there are other factors. I microwave a half inch of half and half and then pour in the coffee. I use preground peet's coffee from costco, and I make sure I clean everything a lot. So would I spend 10 x? Frankly no...And preground is fine, because it doesn't last long in my house...

It seems neither of the spray arms is well positioned or designed to distribute the water evenly over grinds in the filter, especially the Mr. Coffee. *Coffeehaus* has recently designed a prototype alternative spray arm for the Technivorm Moccamaster, which they are selling at cost now, which they ultimately plan to produce in stainless steel. It provides a larger circular sprayhead with more holes which will be centered over the grinds to improve water distribution, and hence, flavor--most of the aficionados feel they have to stir the grinds with the existing spray arm. The title of the KZbin video explaining what they did it is: *We fixed the only issue with the Moccamaster...*

Has anybody done a true blind test between a cup made with the stock outlet arm, versus an 'improved' design, of any kind? I'm wondering if this is a case of thinking that something _should_ be a certain way, without having the necessary test data that proves it. It's an obsessive hobby.
@fredbloggs6080
@fredbloggs6080 8 ай бұрын
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 I don't think that KZbin channel guy ever continued with this project--he didn't answer further questions about orders for the finished product and never posted anything about it that I know of. However I did someone in Canada who goes where they name *CoffeePilots* who makes hey clever well constructed spray head insert that fits flat perfectly on top of the filter basket and redistributes is the water evenly over the grinds. I purchased one that after my first comment, and it works very well, but I also changed the brewing method based on my experimentation. I have the Select model Moccamaster, and brew one half carafe with the selector set appropriately. With the spray head insert in place, I leave the carafe out and allow the water to build up in the basket--at first I settled on 40 seconds before putting the carafe back to allow it to start draining--now I'm doing 58 seconds. It may depend on your coffee and the grind. I don't stir it. So it really becomes a combo of some sort of pour over and drip, I guess. But I can tell you it brews much better coffee that way. That's one of the things people like about the Moccamaster, that one can intervene and tweak the brewing in various ways because of its open design. Once I discover what produces the the best coffee for me it is pretty much the same thing every time. Of course, the finess of the grind makes a big difference too, and parameters may have to be changed a little for different coffees. I would not say that straight out of the box the Moccamaster is better than a number of other coffeemakers. It's not so much a matter obsession, but of having spent a lot of money for the machine and then discovering that design from the factory is not optimal or as good as it could or should be, and trying to optimize it, which, because of its modular design, it lends itself to..

Does the newer Cuisinart DCC 3200, which gets the water hotter than they DCC 1200 that you show, have a different type of heating ailment than the aluminum one of the DCC 1200? I believe you can set three different temperatures of hot plate independently of the water temperature on that the DCC 3200. I don't like the idea of water being heated up in aluminum. You rarely see aluminum cookware anymore unless it has a layer of something else on the side the food touches.

@@JustADad I had a Baratza Solis that lasted me over 20-years. I stayed with the same brand and recently bought a Baratza Vario. It does coarse and fine grind well enough for me. As far as beans go, I’ve been using a lot of French Roast. It’s a darker, oily bean and I enjoy the full-body flavor. Unlike the standard MoccaMaster Technivorm recipes out there (1-liter water to 60-grams of coffee), I do 1-liter of water to 40-grams of coarse grind. For me, it’s the perfect ratio. But, as with everything coffee, personal preference will drive your recipes. Enjoy the journey!

If you have the Moccamaster with the 3 setting brew basket which sits on a Round base, you can easily swivet the basket to different positions throughout the brew cycle for a more even saturation. Or you can just do that at the very beginning to evenly wet the grounds, then leave it alone. I tend to swivel the basket throughout. It only takes 5 minutes or so to brew a full pot, so it really doesn't take up too much of my time while I'm doing other things in the kitchen. Simply reach over every so often and reposition the basket. I do find that without any hands on assistance, that the water from the Moccamster tends to burrow a divit into the grounds. Swiveling makes a huge difference. A little shake of the basket and tap flattens the bed during the final drawdown. If the showerhead was longer, reaching out to the middle of the basket, then swiveling would not do much since the water would be pouring right over the middle. I don't know how well a longer showerhead would perform without it being wider than what they now do provide. Now, a wider and longer showerhead might do the trick.

@@JustADad Since you were not using the brew basket with the round bottom, you won't be able to swivel the basket, however gently using a spoon the spread the water across the surface of the water will also work quite well. I make sure that I don't disturb the entire coffee grounds, although some do stir. Stirring too much may cause the filter to get clogged with the fine coffee grounds. Also, gently pulling the coffee grounds off of the upper part of the filter down into the rest of the water with a spoon helps too.

I had a Cuisinart 12 cup (At 5 ounces per cup markings on the carafe) However, I usually ignore the carafe or reservoir marking and just go according to a scale. The Moccamaster's water measurement markings on the reservoir are at a cup equallng only 4 ounces. However, the 4 ounce markings are actually a little more than 4 ounces. Again, just go accodring to a scale and easily weigh your water and coffee beans. Or simply use a measuring cup and tablespoon coffee scoop. So, based on 42 ounces of water used in a Cuisinart, the brew cycle takes around 9 to 10 minutes or so to brew while the Moccamaster takes around 5 to 6 minutes for the same amount of water to disperse. That 4 to 5 minutes of extra contact time between the water and coffee grounds tends to drastically over extract your coffee making it more bitter.
