Detroit Diesel 6V71 Power in Ireland

I recently had the opportunity to go to Ireland, and seeing a former TTC GM New Look preserved there was the icing on the cake. The first part is of a ride on a retired Bus Éireann KE class bus. These buses were assembled by Bombardier in the early 1980s and all use the 6V71 engine.
Next is a ride on ex-TTC 2290 through the Irish countryside. This, and 2291, are preserved by a private group of enthusiasts with an impressive collection. At the request of the preservationists, I edited some of the footage so that the location of the sheds these buses are kept in is secret.
Hopefully you can all hear that the engines of KE 35 and 2290 sound a little different from each other, oddly enough. A very big thank you to them for a fun afternoon on these vintage buses.

I've lived in Ireland well over 20 years now and I can still smell the inside of that TTC bus while I watched this video.

I rode one of the TTC buses to and from high school every day from Sept to June from 1986 to 1991 - I'd recognise that Detroit Diesel roar anywhere! These buses always smelled of a mixture of 2 stroke Diesel exhaust and raw Diesel fuel!

Lucky man. I always wanted to drive these. I miss em so much. I remember overhearing a driver loving those junker new orions on 102 route back in 09 because these had no a/c. I'd gladly trade spots with him to drive this. I always enjoyed riding on these.

Great video. Thanks for posting! I remember riding GM New Looks buses in Toronto when I was going to school. A 'bit' of a rough ride and LOUD. Not exactly comfortable but great memories.

This is a legit TTC bus - how did this wind up in Ireland?! This looks like it was parked in the depot yesterday, absolutely everything is there Edit: Seems it was donated to the Transport Enthusiasts Club in 2013? I didn't even realize these were all decommissioned, they were such a familiar sight it just felt like they'd be around forever

It was imported by a well known bus preservationist who spend some time in Canada in the early 90s, he decided to acquire one and have it imported from Canada to exhibit it here

It's a V730. Double deck buses were made to this design at the same time with the same powertrain.

@@busrailfan There are two other ride videos of KE 35 on KZbin. This type of bus is known as the KE class, and it's the only that has been preserved.

The KE had the same engine/transmission as the Toronto bus, but the axle ratio is different (KE Bus did long haul, city to city trips)

Normally i let people write constructive comments on these kinda questions ..but i just like to say just because vehicals drive on the right hand side of the road dont assume every country outside usa or canada where these kind of questions originate from drive on right hand side of road....ireland and uk for example drive on left hand side of road.... you never see comments from people who drive on left hand side of the road saying why do americans or canadians drive on the wrong side of the road...the ones who do drive on wrong side of road are usually on holidays... drunk..drugged or just too F...ing ignorant to check before which side of the road that country drives on before they arrive...
