Dan said he was definitely qualified to be a HC in the NFL. Scottie has been the Assistant HC since he got here. He might well have been a Rooney rule interview, but he is a respected coach in the league.

I would be ok with him leaving. Yes it would suck, but I would understand if he wanted to be an OC. He has done great things for us and definitely deserves it. That being said, FOR YOUR OWN SAKE SCOTTY, DO NOT GO TO DALLAS! That is where careers go to die.

Ben Johnson was undoubtedly a solid offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, but let’s be honest-it’s hard to look bad when you have the kind of talent we do. Many of his successes were a product of the elite players at his disposal rather than his own brilliance as a play-caller. Next season will prove that, as he moves on to the Chicago Bears, where he won’t have the benefit of a high-powered, well-rounded offense to mask his shortcomings. One of the biggest issues with Johnson’s play-calling was his tendency to make questionable decisions in key moments. The loss to Tampa Bay was a prime example-Jared Goff threw the ball over 50 times, while Aidan Hutchinson dominated with five sacks. There was no reason we should have lost that game, yet poor play selection put us in a position to fail. Too often, Johnson leaned too heavily on predictable or risky plays when smarter, more balanced decision-making was needed. That’s why I’m actually relieved that we’ve moved on and brought in a new offensive coordinator-someone who understands the passing game but doesn’t live and die by it in crucial moments. The Lions are built to win, and with the right leadership, we can take the next step. I believe this new hire will bring a more adaptable and effective offensive approach, allowing us to maximize our strengths rather than relying on gimmicks or overaggressive play-calling. The future looks bright for Detroit, and I can’t wait to see how this team evolves.
