Greatest roster the Red Wings ever had. 4 lines that were absolute nightmares for whoever faced them. And Vernon got hot right at the right time. Man what a fun playoff season 97 was.

@Jay Agreed! Stupid ass Gnida fucked up Vladdy's life. He was such a beast. Me and my friends used to say he was a robot because of the way he played and acted. Real stiff and machine-like. When we heard it was him in the accident we were like "Not possible. He CAN'T be hurt. He is a robot that never gets hurt". 😫😫
@ScottAMelton3 жыл бұрын
@Jay Yep. I've said that all along. We were a great team but Shanahan gave us that toughness. It always seemed like we were afraid of Colorado and a few other top teams but Shanny had that attitude like "I don't care who you are. We are the Red Wings and WE are badass!!!" And Maltby was one of my favorite players. I still have his jersey. He had the ability to throw the top players off their game, especially in playoffs!!

It was good to watch this vid. I'm an Islanders fan first, but the Wings became my #2 team in '93. Seeing Yzerman finally hoist the Cup in '97 was one of the best hockey moments I can remember. But seeing Konstantinov at the end of this took me down a few notches. Will never see a D-man like that again.....

Not only did they sweep the Flyers, they humiliated them. Combination of Hextall playing goalie like a matador and Lindros' disappearing act. This team really does not get mentioned enough when people talk all time great teams.

I miss this kind of hard, grinding, fighting for every inch kind of hockey. I remember the first time I got my mum to watch hockey was during this season. This was also the first time I ever heard my mum curse like a sailor!!!! Hearing my sweet, quiet mum screaming at roy “take that you llama-faced BIIIIIIIIITCH” was worth it in itself! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 We still tease mum about that to this day. The Wings were just incredible and the talent on that team was mind boggling.

Nostalgia at its finest. It's always the warm spring transitioning into summer days in Detroit that remind me of that feeling we all had when the Wings hoisted their first cup in 97. Everything went right literally. Miracles happened that year. We got contribution from guys who weren't suppose to there. Lapointe, Maltby, Kocur, and McCarty changed our dynamic. What a team probably will never see such a thing in the D ever again

In reality, the Red wings should have swept the Avs in 4 games. In game 1, Detroit out-shot Colorardo 35 to 19 and out-played them in every aspect (similar to all the other Detroit wins in the series) only to have Patrick Roy steal the show as he would normally do and give his team a win with a .971 save percentage. Joe Sakic even stated in a press conference that they got lucky in game 1. It very likely could have been 12 wins in a row with Detroit sweeping the Ducks & Flyers. Detroit had high level talent ( as did the Avs and Flyers) but they won with a smothering system, the "left wing lock," which they played to perfection.

Yup he was being groomed for Captain. Man I wish he would’ve played his whole career in Detroit. He had such a nice and important role on our team. He was so clutch in the playoffs. I would’ve liked to see Fedorov play his entire career in Detroit too. Hopefully we retire #91 this season. He deserves it. Edit: LaPoint signed his rookie card, jersey and stick for me in 1998. He was a really good guy.

Privet kak dila- ahh the Russian 5- 1- 97 Red Wing Reds- my bias The Russian 5 Sergei Fedarow, Vladimir Konstantinov, Slava Kozlov, Slava Festov(brothers) and Igor Larinov-The entire Russian national hockety team. Sergei Fedrov, Vladimir Konstantinov, Slava Koslov, Slava Felistov and Iror Larinow Thee players got drafted back in Three of the players were drafted by the Red Wings in 1989 and 1990, and their defections from the Soviet Union were aided by the Wings . The last two were acquired via trades from the New Jersey Devils, San Jose Sharks. RW coach Scotty Browman played the five together as a unit from October 1995 to June 1997. Just some facts that some may not know.
