Ah, the sound of a 53 hunting at first start. Takes me back! Yeah I know it’s just the injectors, but it still brought back the memories! And a 53 at high rpm put a smile on my dial!

That takes me back to 1974 when I was a kid.:) My dad would start up the Hayes HDX 12V71 and it would hunt like that for a few seconds.:) It's amazing how something like that brings back memories.:)

Oh my yes,... me too! I really got to like and enjoy all these engines from the 353 up to the 16V-71 engines we had available in equipment where I really enjoyed my working time, at Blackwood Hodge Equipment in the 1970's.

I can stare at a runner like that all day too 😂 Humans and their gadgets. I like how the radiator fan spins so fast you can't even see it. It's like it's not even there!

How many dollars does it take to renovate the entire Detroit 4-53N in the USA? In Brazil it costs around $50,000.00 reais, or around €9,000.00 dollars.
@detroitgarage94302 ай бұрын
My cost is about $1000-$1200 USD without the labor. Would be close to $7000.00 to $9000.00 to rebuild at a shop.:)

I sure like the sound a Detroit makes. Just a thought, are you at all concerned about those old injectors washing down a cylinder wall?
@detroitgarage94302 ай бұрын
Yes, that's a concern. I'll be running them for the initial break in on the dyno, then replacing with larger injectors. We'll see how well they do under a load.:)

Question for you. I have a couple of Older GMC trucks i am repowering with the 4-53. One was originally equipped with a 4-71. Do you ha e any thoughts on or experience with the 71 series and should i be looking for one ?
@detroitgarage94302 ай бұрын
The 4-53 should fit well and bolt to the trans you already have. Can't remember if that was an N or T you have? The N is 130-140 HP and the T is 170-175 HP. The 4-71 is 145-160 HP. The 4-53 is lighter and spins faster, so in the end you might not notice the power differences.:)
@greywuuf2 ай бұрын
@detroitgarage9430 mine is an old N. But it doesnot have to stay that way. Anyway I am sure the 53 will be all I need after all I am not expecting it to be a comercial truck..... I was more wondering if the 71 series being the older design was better worse or just differant ? If I happen to find a 4-71 is it worth messing with ? ....or should I got actively looking because they are tons more rugged.... just general opinion of the whole 71 series if you had an opinion.
@detroitgarage94302 ай бұрын
@@greywuuf The 71 series is the best Detroit made, so yeah if you find one grab it. I really wanted a 4-71T for my original swap, but picked the 4-53T because it was lighter. They're quieter, Jakes are reasonable for them and all round a great engine.:) I have a 6V71 waiting for the day I swap that into something.:)

What’s the down pipe, or in this case up pipe out of? I see it’s sleeved inside…
@detroitgarage94302 ай бұрын
It's off a 6.4 Powerstroke.:) I'll be cutting the the inner sleeve out to make it a true 4" downpipe.:) It's stainless, so I'll keep it for the down pipe for the Diamond T.:)

So you not have the bypass on the blower? It looks short to me
@detroitgarage94302 ай бұрын
No bypass on this one, it's a T blower. I still have to configure the bypass blower for this side of the engine. Just means swapping the gears around, then can be installed. For testing I'll be comparing the T, Silver bypass and N blowers.
