Detroit Thermo UHMW non-abrasive replacement Skid Shoes on Toro PowerMax 828

Detroit Thermo UHMW non-abrasive skid shoes installed on Toro Power Max HD 828 OAE snow blower. These non-marking skid shoes will prevent scraping and scarring of cement sidewalks, driveways, and asphalt surfaces. The UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) shoes are reversible, include the mounting hardware, and use a stainless-steel plate for mounting. So why are the manufacturers still putting metal skid shoes on these things? That ticks me off that we pay so much for these snowblowers and we need to upgrade the shoes so we aren’t messing up the concrete

I think some people don't care if the metal scratches the driveway. Or maybe some people are using the blowers on gravel or a dirt surface (like our driveway) and the cast shoes hold up better? Just a guess. I'm really happy with these new "plastic" shoes. Thanks for watching!

Hi Ed- it’s 40x60 with 16 foot high walls. Tractor and Equipment up front, basketball court, volleyball practice area, and four square game area in the back. It’s not big enough. :)

3/4 OF AN INCH GAP!!! What do you have very high gravel and huge cracks? The spec unless you have gravel cover very uneven ground ( is 1/8 of an inch not 3/4) You're leaving a lot of snow on the ground. 3/4 of an inch to be exactly.. If you want to be safe you could go quarter of an inch. That's the highest most people go even with gravel..

Even with 3/4 of an inch gap, I still pick up stones. Our long driveway is full of #3 gravel. That's big stones, usually around 3-5 inches in diameter. And it's not all packed down like cement - it's gravel on top of a solid base. So the shoes do cut down through the gravel. If I had the gap at 1/8 inch, I'd likely catch every rock several inches deep and the entire width of the machine. Someday, our driveway may be solid hard pack. Today, that's not the case. I add gravel every year, because it disappears.
