Although I don't play Runescape (I used to 18 years ago), this was still a lovely background noise to listen to. My interest has been slightly higher, as I started watching Settled's Tileman series in the spring and later the entirety of Swampletics. I hope the Dev Log series keeps going. I'd enjoy a review with Rebecca Ford from Warframe/Digital Extremes. Given that she recently rose to a lead developer role, I'm curious to see what she has to say regarding Warframe's future. Warframe has been lately more invested in KZbin, as they've sponsored some videos before major updates (ie. Game Theory and Death Battle), I'd give it a decent chance they'd be interested. Having been a community manager, Rebb's no stranger to streaming or interviews either.

50:00 Invention was one of those systems introduced to RS3 that allowed players to effectively "scrap" items that were oversaturating the market and it worked really well as an item sink. I'd like to see a new skill in OSRS that "scraps" oversaturated items for a new resource. Invention was very open ended as well, you can scrap just about anything you want.. so what players end up doing is seeking out those items that have become very cheap and buying mass quantities of them.. driving the value back up to a more reasonable level.

Doesn't really make any sense to be cautious about a programmer going from one project to another. That's like being worried that someone who worked on Microsoft Excel might start turning Microsoft Flight Simulator into a spreadsheet if they're re-assigned to a different project. This is how professional programmers work: different projects have different scopes, requirements, and standards.

Gives me a lot of confidence when I think about the future of video games and where things are headed when a lot of what you see online is blatant doomerism. As a side note, if possible, I'd love to see interview with some of the older industry professionals, people who worked on some of the older games that are now considered classics.

I will say, even tho Kieren has been in the team for a while, it is interesting to hear him and Elena talk as a player who's been there almost from the beginning... It kind of shows the pressure and the mind space they've been made to work in whiles creating content for us... And while I think it's great that they know the history, I feel kind of like the block in the middle constricting them in some way as well. As a player I'm of course demanding to keep the game how I remember and want things "my way" but also bored because I've played the game for so long that everything feels done so... Wanting new content must be tough to an extent due to how demanding we as players have been. There are ways to improve things, like limiting the hopping in certain areas like wilderness to sold problems like clan piling etc. but there has been also changes that I have disliked, like the option to disable the ability to attack players in wilderness, mind you I'm PvE'r. There's still lot to learn and I would hope lot more to come in the future.

I really enjoy your interview style videos Josh! The way you interview is very engaging and makes the people you interview open up in a way that I don't see with them in other interviews. I think in comparison to other interviewers, you keep it professional and avoid getting too excited to the point of fanboy. Thinking back to your video over a year ago about the Ashes of Creation hype train, there have been a ton of interviews with the creatative director of Intrepid Studios, Steven Sharif. However genuine Steven comes off in the interview, it seems that the interviewers don't really pressure him with difficult questions about real concerns such as: the player concequences based on other player's actions. 43:50 I've been playing Runescape since '08. I've been a F2P all this years, until 2020 when I bought my first bond (RS3). I had that feeling of: "wow... where do I start?" And I loved it. And then GIM came out and I, once again, had that same feeling. I felt it more when I discovered Zeah. I ABSOLUTLY loved/love Zeah. There's some much to do there. You can even lock an account there and you'll be able to max.(giving that you only go "on trips" outside the island for your slayer lvls). Now I'm mainly playing on my GIM, only playing RS3 for quick gp for bonds. Even being a veteran could not have preapared me enough to face that vast amount of content that Zeah, Fossil Island, and all the new content they've been adding throughtout the year. One of my earliest memories of knowing about a game and community was knowing about Zezima from just word of mouth of other RS players, for being #1 on the leaderboards for such a long time. I love, absolutely love, that the developers embrace the word of mouth, achievement, and weird challenges, and even if that isn't the main design, it's part of the idea.

This was awesome to listen to! About the Evolution of Combat, one thing I never hear is (like it was my case) bad computer and internet connection. Most of RS was soo simple that a potato could run the game & lag wasn't really an issue. But when EOC came out, it made it very clear that with every ability I would click that I was experiencing heavy latency issues. This made the game unplayable for me. Also, if Jagex is reading through these; fix the RS3 client! It uses an incredible amount of power because it's soo poorly optimised. This has been the case for years now & nothing has been said about it even though people complain all the time...

One thing i've liked a lot about with OSRS in the last few years years was players gaining a sense of customizability. (within reason) I think giving the players the ability to make their own QOL stuff and make the game more overall enjoyable without waiting/hoping for devs, really helps with longevity and popularity. Minecraft for example, would have been dead in the water after a few months if it weren't for the amazing modding community it had at the start and gained over the years. Jagex also having their weekly QnA streams, and just interacting with the community more has helped people know that the team we have are people who genuinely want the game to be good. Sometimes they drop the ball, and they drop it hard (some of their most recent poll tests and 'integrity' changes), but you know they're not aiming to make the game worse. Heres to hoping the community grows and for more good years to come. Thanks for the video!

15:00 A F2P raid would be a good pull for the game and a way to introduce players to that kinda content. Dunno how much appeal there would be though. Loving the interview

@string name; the midgame raids just have to drop stuff to skill like the minigames

I may have lost interest in Runescape more than a decade ago, but you have to give them credit for keeping the game alive and well.

I really wish Josh didn't give up on GIM so fast. I'm having a blast playing GIM because of him.

In a way, the poll system really did mitigate the issues of the rev caves. Bis pvm&pvp ranged gear was polled as a rev unique but failed the poll. Looking back at that whole mess with mod jed (incidentally, this is why you never let pkers act as design leads for pvpvm content without a real game designer on hand to override them as necessary) the sole saving grace for the revs was that it was just raw GP and not a crucial item.

Phenomenal video, I always love hearing the insights these developers have into the great questions you ask, Josh. I always wonder about what goes on behind a developer's thought process in games like Guild Wars, or Adventure Quest. It would be really cool to hear some things from Artix Entertainment, although that sounds like a hard interview to get.
