Part of me wanted to cry and part of me wanted to rejoice! It's rather unbelievable how far they have come even though they have so far to go. Such a beautiful area that I've hiked around etc many years ago. Lake Lure, know for being the location of Dirty Dancing, was always such a beautiful man made lake. It looks 1000 times better than it did with all the debris floating on it! I'm sure they will need to dredge out the lake somewhat with all the silt that has come down to it, but I was happy to see muddy water. Something I wasn't sure we would see! And they are slowly putting the river back where it was. Thank you for this video! Very much appreciated! Bat Cave, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, Black Mountain and Asheville suffered so much damage. Good sign of hope!

Not sure if you have watched videos done by John Ward. His channel is The Appalachian Channel. Rick Moreland wrote the theme song "Helene" found on this video. I'm trying to get the song nominated for the Country Music Awards. Please share wth your friends and like and subscribe to John's videos. He's been in NC for over a month documenting the tragedy, but also the generosity and love from volunteers from across America. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6urfn2mqcZrirssi=5YqxiKWgRZ-6TWne

It is shocking to see Chimney Rock and so many of the quaint, posh, wonderful little towns and villages in this area being so devastated. It looks to me like it’s an entire generation of rebuilding and regrowing to get back close to normalcy. God bless all the people there. Every night for almost 2 months I have searched for videos of this historical event, especially Chimney Rock and Bat Cave. I agree with PisgahGravelProject in his comment that documentation is very important. I so wish more vids would follow the river on upstream to Bat Cave, to see what is occurring up that way. I'm also searching for drone footage of the Green River Cove, the actual river from Fishtops Access down toward Lake Adger. Thanks for posting this video.

Thank you so much for such careful documentation. You are doing very important work.Though I am from West Virginia and South Florida , I've deeply loved this area since childhood back in the 1950s and 1960s and taken friends to visit in the decades since. My family still owns a little property in McDowell County between Old Fort and Black Mountain --- which is inaccessible for now. I am so proud of those" West Virginia Boys " who built the road in Bat Cave ! Love and Prayers from South Florida.

Sweet little town. Spent many happy days fishing the Broad back in the 70's and 80's. Last time I was up there picked up a friend of 30 years in Fairview and we drove over the gap to have some ice cream down in town and had a nice walk on the beach. Not sure which is worse. The destruction nature brought on the river or people defiantly rebuilding in the floodplain. The old mountain folk we're nearly so naive. Least none I knew.

It's still so hard to imagine the horror these folks have been through. One day, you live in this peaceful, quiet, remote, and beautiful valley surrounded by nature, beautiful forests, natural streams, mkss covered rocks, natural stream beds and natural stream banks, a lake, good fishing, and canoeing....now it's just a big horrific mess. Even after the clean up is done and the equipment is gone, it will likely never be as beautiful and natural looking as it was....man will never be able to "put back" something that was moss covered and aged and beautiful as sone of these places were....nature made over time vs. man and machine made. I pray for these folks every day, I dont mean to sound so negative, but for some, and for these lakes and streams, the healing process will be a long time coming.
