I stood on the roof of my North Fort Myers home today while installing a blue tarp over a couple of patched holes and realized how fortunate we were. Everywhere I looked I saw someone worse off than we were. I’m grateful to still have a home to repair. Our lithium equipped Travato is powering the fridge in our grandkids’ home and I’m writing this comment from the van where I now live temporarily in their Fort Myers driveway. In a word: GRATEFUL. Thanks for sharing your family’s story. Our prayers are with you.

I understand what you are feeling. I was in hurricane Harvey. It was concerned a 100 year storm. We were not suppose to get hit. Very last minutes it changed. 98% of my town went under water. I swam out with my 1 year old grandson and 16 year old son. There was no warning or time to evacuate. We lost everything. It's 5 years later still rebuilding. You have to understand rebuilding is long and hard work but life will come back. Nothing replace memories and most importantly you. My heart breaks for that's hurting and prayers for all. Praying all our first responders stay safe. My sister in Florida but ok so praise God. Love y'all. Let your emotions flow it helps. I still cry five years later. I have friends little ones here of storm or see rain will run to the door and say let's go. God's got this. Is my thing to help me through. 💖💖

I'm in Jacksonville Beach, but am from St. Pete originally. My heart aches for losses on our beautiful west coast. The devastation continues with the flooding of the rivers. It will be years before they return to any kind of normal. But, we Floridians are resilient. Prayers for those who lost loved ones.

My prayers are with your family. My grandson lives in Ft. Myers and his mother (my former daughter-in-law) lived in Naples before Ian wiped her out. Fortunately, they went inland to stay with friends, so both are safe, which is all that matters. Possessions are just stuff. Yes, there were precious items, but they still have the memories. Ian didn't take those away. Rebuilding lives will be hard, but not as hard as the families who lost loved ones. My heart cries for them. Sending love & hugs.

@@Mrandmrsadventure Im so sorry that your family suffered hurricane damage to their home and catastrophic neighborhood damage. Must be very shocking for your family to see what is left of their beautiful beach town & home. 💔💔💔 Just so you know, the National Hurricane center site was reporting that Ian was going to hit ft Myers/naples area prior and after it left Cuba. YEP. The news media was reporting it was going to hit Tampa which was a blantant lie. I know this because after Ian left Cuba I was posting all over every local news weather yt chans up and down the west coast of florida that everyone needed to look up the National Hurricane center site for the truth. I even had people telling me I did not know what I was talking about because the news had brain washed everyone to believe it was going to hit Tampa/St Pete. It's shocking that the media was LYING to west coast florida citizens!!! They clearly intentionally wanted a devastating death toll. There is NO way the News stations could have gotten the wrong info from the National Hurricane center site because the National Hurricane Center site was posting updates all the latest track on their sites and the track after Cuba was directly to Ft/myers/naples. I live in St Pete beach, Fl and was tracking this hurricane extremelhy closely a week before all the way from Africa (see yt ch Mr Weatherman = he tracks them from Africa he has the best info he is a ex Orlando news 9 weatherman). So it shocks me that so many had no idea that it wasnt going to hit Ft/myers to Naples. The News station weathermen & owners need to be held accountable for thier blantant lies about where this was going to make land fall. Look up bitchute there is a vid about the US govt cloud seedng hurricane to grown them> YEP..this has been going on for 60+ years!! YEP. look up "Project storm fury hurricane" = this was a US Navy Govt "project" that was to grow hurricanes. Look up Geoengineeringwatch.org = more weather manpulation...look up HAARP. Sanibel island bridge& Island has been wiped out before from hurricanes. With time...Ft Myers & Naples will come back stronger. 💙 (ps give your parents this excellent yt ch "Mr Weatherman" for hurricane tracking and also have them look up "National Hurricane Center" site for all future hurricane info...this govt site has all the basic info but, it's truthful...where as the media is not). take care.

Glad all are safe in your family! I fled St Pete for Savannah. I didn't leave during Charlie which, like Ian turned but with only 2-hours before landfall. That was a big lesson for me. I've watch my coastal area struggle with drainage, full moons and high tides since Charlie. After recent $1M neighborhood stormwater updates and $5k additional drainage in my own yard failed to handle the usual Florida downpours this season, I packed Sunday and left Monday morning when Ian had not moved more west. . I will no longer stay as long as there is a storm in the gulf, neither should anyone living along the coast. I so want a van, it would make evacuations so much easier!

My son's family is just east of Ft. Myers, they were lucky that the house was not badly damaged, but they are living without power, or water, with loads of mosquitoes, and mold, basically they had to bury the stinking contents of the fridge/freezer and are "camping", but sooo glad to be alive. Very thankful your family is safe too, but feel horrible for their losses.

FROM the "Elder Adventurers"..My heart literally hurts for you both and your families. I've read all of the well wishers comments and know you are receiving strength from all the caring love sent your way. This may seem strange....but my parents home was flooded in Sacramento California when I was 16 years old. The river water in the house was only 3 feet. We were evacuated by rowboat. Oddly....the lucky ones turned out to be the people whose houses floated away completely.....understandably the government gave them aid first.....the rest of us were on our own. The dirty, smelly mud was like sewage....with black mold to follow. Almost everything ruined. Yes, we were happy to survive...but our happy little house was never the same. We finally had to leave it after a few years of renovation. This isnt a story about me and mine....but rather a witness of the first hand account of the life changing tragedy. I'm heartsick just reading about it. Yes, you might have to hold off the Portugal plans. It's a BIG bump in the road. Holding you both deep in my heart. *Recliner Babe"

So good to hear your family is okay, prayers for strength and support as they move forward. I live in Englewood, we did not evacuate but went to a family member's home as we live in a mobile home. So many homes destroyed. Amazingly our home is okay, us and our animals are safe. Our laundry room, lanai, and carport are gone but it's nothing compared to others. Thankful for the help in town, someone out of town drove down my street giving out water and then later Fema did.

I'm new here, the algorithm brought me here. Just wanted to say as a victim of Harvey, we lost all material things. Our home flooded, our cars were totaled, and we huddled in a garage apartment waiting with 28 people for waters to recede that totaled 60 inches in our area. I can't even watch the footage without turning down the sound because it triggers strong emotions and after this storm I was diagnosed with ptsd. Now, after talking through it we are all getting better. Our home still hasn't fully recovered but that's only cosmetic. Our cars were replaced and we are all together. We made it. Houston rebuilt. My continued prayers are for everyone in Florida to heal. My heart is with you all and you WILL get through this❤

Your explanation was spot on. It's hard to understand how Naples got so creamed while even places in the eye were more spared. It's that circular motion. Wind coming off land on the north end drained the bays and rivers, wind coming on land south of the eye meant all that water from the other side of the circle dumped onto the land. The farther from the eye, the more fetch to the water. We have property that was in the eye, but our lives weren't. For all those in the path whose lives are upended & our dear friends, we love you and pray for you.

Kinda hard to give thumbs up but it’s my humble show of connection and support. I lost my childhood belongings when a lamp cord was touching baseboard heater that I intended not to turn on while room was arranged that way but I automatically turned up thermostat and closed the door. Shoot it was burning while We were eating just downstairs and I left for school. Girl with locker next to mine said there were fire trucks down my street so I called home and a strange man answered as I heard shouting and mom came to phone to report fire. Luckily dad didn’t open door to the room but felt doorknob and called his buddies the volunteer fire dept. Not the same as a 1000 year storm hitting millions of people. So glad for those that evacuated. I want a home on wheels but can’t afford 2nd vehicle while I have to use my work truck. Small problem in the scheme of things. Blessing of grace to you all.

So glad to hear that your family is safe! My parents live in New Smyrna Beach on the Atlantic side and they were lucky to get by with a short power outage and minor flooding. Thought, prayers, and donations to those who were not so lucky. I'm going to order a Jackery for my parents right now!

I am so sorry for your families. I understand losing all your childhood and important keepsakes. I lost everything I owned in a fire a few years ago but ultimately realize that God is always in control. You will grieve the loss then someday look back and know God is with you. It’s a process for sure. Sending prayers.

@@Mrandmrsadventure it played with my faith a little to be honest. I think after my house was rebuilt, about six months in, I truly was able to thank God for this trial. I had faith, but that was a huge test. I know your families will still go through the stages of grief so I know you will pray them through it. 💕💕🙏🙏

I grew up splitting my time between basically living on a boat on lake erie in the summers and a condo on the beach in Fort myers. Ft myers stole my heart, not only beautiful, but the people and community are the best. The community is what makes fort myers so special and unmatched by anywhere else, and that is something that can't get washed away. We have been planning on moving there when my kids are old enough to choose to stay here or come with us. We have friends and family from ft myers all the way up to Clearwater Beach and across to ft Lauderdale/miami.... I was actually just scanning some old family slides from the 1960's from that area a few months ago. My friends mother lost everything in matlacha. It's like her house was just erased. And there is one person that hasn't been heard from, we are hoping it is just bc of the cell phone towers. Prayers for everyone down there. I wish I could do more to help.

Hey guy, I am so sorry to here about this. Glad your parents evacuated and are safe. I remember reaching out while you where here. I was doing my van life travels, pleasure and work, all around my home state . I was in Naples when I messaged, was hoping to connect and meet up to share stories. Sending hugs to you all filled with prayers. This is going to take awhile, but we can all overcome this by being there for one another, even if only on a small scale or prayer….there is power there! May your journey continue forward and full of health hope and happiness…🤗🙏🚐

I knew from the Houston TX highway evacuation routes that when a hurricane is coming, millions can't wait until 24-48 hours to leave. Highway grid lock. .... I watched for a week prior to Ian landfall as the original forecast was cat1 best case, cat 2-3 worst case & weathermen saying it would DEFINATELY not be a cat 4 or 5 - no worries. OOPS .... . I live in Colorado. I watched daily and in the last hours as it suddenly changed course catching many off guard. All I could think was uh oh, then oh no because I watched worst case scenario developed "LIVE" before my eyes...... I witnessed a catastrophic emergency flood in a town of about 12,000 people 7 years ago *dam upriver broke & released water surge 30-60 ft high. Decimated a large portion of the town. The next year a storm caused massive flooding in a different part of town. ........ . Unless you have lived through it, you cannot imagine the carnage afterwards. And the manpower needed to clean up, remove debris, the impossibility of family & emergency communication when lines are down, the chaos and numb state of emotions and shock at seeing the devastation, the long lines & time needed to apply for FEMA & insurance $money, and the MONTHS it takes to remove all the debris piled up on the side of the road ......... AND THIS IN FLORIDA IS FAR MORE WIDESPREAD!!!! IT WILL TAKE MANY YEARS TO RESTORE IT, IF IT IS EVEN POSSIBLE. 😔

It was by far the worst storm I've lived through in Sarasota in 18 years. 15 minutes south in Venice, Englewood got hit extremely hard, Ft Myers, Sanibel, Captiva are almost gone. In Sarasota we were quite fortunate, but as stated in the video we were directly on target up until a day or so before. Please give what you can, every penny helps the people here. Thank you.
