Problem is, EA owns NFS, and they own it I believe since day one. So the only way for what you saying to happen is: A) Indie Dev team would have to join EA, which automatically defeats the purpose, because they will be forced to do what EA wants and they will have to keep persuading a few guys in fancy suits to do what they want while being constantly interrupted to say you can't do it because it won't sell or /and won't make them money. [Basically, it's a pretty bad idea and won't work] B) Indie Devs buy rights to NFS. Which is highly unlikely because EA would want dumb amount of money to even consider selling their money cow, and on top of that as you can imagine, no Indie dev is gonna have anywhere near the amount of money for such thing. C) I think it's best to let the franchise die in peace now, focus on games that Indie Devs are pumping out as well as what Modders are doing with old and new games. Lemme tell you, there is a lot cooking under the surface with NFS community and it ain't just NFS mods and fan remakes

This all started with Rivals, EA made Ghost use Frostbite and they actually got good at using it for it's unintended purpose. This is why we are stuck with the perpetual cycle of Criterion being pulled to work on Dice games as the team has the experience working with Frostbite. How about EA make Criterion and CodeMasters work on a NFS game, that would be something eh, instead we got what, some CM decals from dirt 5 in Unbound. Kaizen did such a great job and I hope that they keep that philosophy going forward, only time can tell at this point.

All of this keeps happening because the senior devs at DICE (main Battlefield developer) left due to EA just being terrible. The remaining devs had and still don't know how to use the Frostbite engine, which caused the development of Battlefield 2042 to be a dumpster fire. When they brought in Criterion and the two other studios, a lot of the senior devs came back just to get the job done

biggest disapointment from NFS unbound was the lack of AI racers in online. when u go to an online session and there's not a soul besides u and u can't manage to convince your friends to drop 90$ on a game like this (i was lucky to get it for 1$ (99% off)). it hurts.

So either I'm racing with one of my friends and bots or just bots. In Unbound I'm usually sitting in a race lobby for 10-15 minutes and no one joins so Unbound's online is basically unplayable unless you have friends.

It’s a shame. Kaizen’s work with Unbound was really building my hype for the next game. If there’s another remaster, it’ll most likely be MW12 or Rivals since they’re on the same engine as HP (I think).

Battlefield was a disaster. NFS hasn't sold that well for years now and couldn't really produce a standout game for 15 or 6 (depending on what you like) years now. All the talent is gone. Nobody who made NFS great is still there, nobody who made Burnout great is still there. Hell, nobody who even made Battlefield is still there. I am not surprised in the slightest in this decision, but it's also entirely down to the absolutely idiotic higher ups at EA that got us into this situation in the first place.

I think this is honestly the best thing EA could have done. For once i can say that. I feel that even though the development team meant well, they could never really stick with a formula that worked. They constantly kept changing what made NFS itself in every iteration, what made NFS Fun. The Unrealistic fun handling, the races mode variety, the cops that were actually fun to wreck or outrun. It's an arcade game, not a simulator. I say this as someone who played nearly every NFS since High Stakes. I'm not implying they can't be creative, but the route they're were going doesn't seem to have clear path. The identity is gone. Everything good must come to an end. Better to wrap it up on a good note, then to milk the shit out of a franchise and tarnish its reputation. Which they kind of already done. NFS had its time in the sun. Some may be upset that NFS is cancelled, but it's far better than being disappointed after the next one is below your expectations. I used to really like racing games a lot, but after the last few NFS Titles I've shifting over to Fighting games and haven't looked back. It's a shame its come to this. It used to be fun, but now I dont know anymore. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. This is just my perspective. So each to their own.

@mr.wilder796 NFSMW 2005 unsurprisingly, Carbon, NFS 2015 in that Order. Everyone tries to say this is better than that, but they fail to realise, its heavily influenced by bias, preference and upbringing, so there's no right answer. Only what you grew up with and what resonated with you the most. Many of the others i like too. I'm no longer a Racing fan. I play Tekken. Way more fun for me. Always something to learn. I play racing here and there, but that fuse ran out. Yeah NFS 2015 even with all its quirks is fun for me. The online only was a terrible business decision. They lost way more money then they thought they would get with that choice. Funny how Ghost got shutdown even after they have collectively made more successful titles in terms of copies sold, than Criterion ever did within their time. PlayStation got leaked and NFS 2015 has sold Over 9 million copies sold on PS alone. EA has a way of shuttting down potential. But what do you expect.

Frostbite engine was made for Battlefield, and Need for speed on frostbite just doesn't feel right. I never liked anything that didn't come from blackbox because it feels weird to play. The way cars handled in heat was really weird and didn't feel right. The way driving works in underground games, most wanted and carbon, and with a dedicated drift mode in carbon just feels so much better than whatever we got in heat and unbound even though blackbox games are 20+ years old.

Yes. The main reason why as well it just doesn't work is that the engine wasn't designed for anything other than fps's. Games like mass effect andromeda had dreadful development cycles because frostbite just wasn't made for that type of game and because of this, devs who don't make fps games at ea either have to cut things down because the engine can't handle it or they struggle to polish or fix things because the engine is a pain in the ass to work with.

As a longtime NFS player, I am happy that the series is being put to rest after so long, better late than never, I guess. The series had long-dried up and despite all the hype they tried to generate with their titles post-Undercover and change of developing hands, coupled with corporate greed, the series had just gone bad. And before one comes up defending post-2008 titles, I just have to say that no matter the graphics, the gameplay was just not fun compared to the NFS up to ProStreet, and especially the very first six games. Unbound was a sloppy mess, but that's simply my opinion. And then they did the mistake of jumping on Live Service train, which I believe was the final nail in the coffin of NFS as a series. So long, NFS (1994-2025). It was a good run, but now it deserves rest, and maybe a new series in its entirety, if they plan to continue.

EA bailed on NFS because it doesnt generate enough micro transactions. EA relies on those numbers for profit. My guess is they are fine with "losing" money on game sales. They likely make it back 100's of times over with micro transactions.

Need off road tracks(cause off road builds are pointless in this game), bigger city(way to open with a tiny city), more enthusiast cars(too flooded with hyper and supercars), car sounds still need to be worked on(especially the RX7 reused sound for the past 10 years), better handling, raise and lower the front and rear individually, adjusting wheel offset, adjusting the actual wheels offset(ie bring back autosculpt) more activities to do around the map, have proper vehicle tuning

This is so bogus man. As a long time NFS fan (since underground 1) I'm furious. I knew once they gave NFS back to Criterion it was gonna be garbage. Ghost struck gold when they made HEAT. EA should've left Ghost alone and let them make HEAT 2 in Lake Shore City. It would've sold 10 times better than the garbage Criterion put out.

This isnt new news, KuruHS talked about this months ago. Most of Criterion is working on Battlefield until it's released along with some/most of the DLC, primarily for the physics with the vehicles like last time....essentially making Criterion a temporary support dev studio. Kaizen is still there, working on ideas and with a small group of the NFS community. They don't have any plan on when they are sending out another NFS, no plan on releasing a new NFS in 2025 either because Criterion knows Unbound was a failure and want to cater the next game to the direct feedback from a small group of dedicated content creators. Im not expecting a new NFS for a few years, the racing game genre is far too much of a copy/paste soulless genre right now so NFS being dormant for a bit is a rather smart move until things change.

Wont happen unfortunately. Thatd be expensive af. Theres a reason why people say once big publishers buy your dev company, its destined for death. Happened to Westwood, Bullfrog, and all these other indies that made best sellers and still got shut down. These publishers, if the games dont make CEO bribing levels of profit, would then rather shut studios down and basically hold them at ransom; letting franchise go would only be possible at the cost they expect the games to profit at, when it was active. And if neither of this is possible, they'd rather the franchise gets buried forever, as theyd rather nip another potential competitor in the bud.

Nowadays you have developers that are not even remotely capable of knowing a racing game because they rather copy and paste stuff to put out because they are too lazy to make a game that is worth developing. Games nowadays are very rushed because the company only wants money. If a company only cares about how much they put in their game that’s all they care about. It’s not about the games or the gamer anymore. Games are not even polished. The only game I been playing that had been worth playing is Fortnite. It’s been a fun one because it’s at least enjoyable. Even that game does have some issues that need to be addressed because even Epic Games isn’t bringing back certain things people want. I think people don’t realize what they missed out. They don’t realize what a great video game is anymore

Im gonna say this straight, WHEN criterion can work on NFS again, they need plenty of time to truly perfect what Kaizen has learnt from our feedback and make the next NFS the best they can do, i will say they should of never pulled Kaizen away, even if thay are a small team, a small team can do a massive amount of work towards a new game, Especially with the work they put in for Unbound for the 4 Volumes we got, although i dont mind battlefield personally due to having family members that absolutely love battlefield, PULLING KAIZEN FOR WHAT, 10-20 PEOPLE TO WORK ON BATTLEFIELD BARELY DOES ANYTHING TOWARDS BATTLEFIELDS COMPLETION....

Ghost did amazing with the atmospherics in NFS 2015, Criterion did absolutely wonders with Hot pursuit. Ever tried to look up Unbound's concept art?? I could go on forever. Unpopolar opinion: I’m disappointed in EA not developing a new NFS game, but at the same time.. I don’t mind waiting for a new studio (criterion, Ea etc) to develop a new game that doesn’t feel rushed, with recycled mechanics, unpolished and incomplete. It suck. We don’t have the slightest clue when a new NFS will be released. But maybe it’s better to wait and get a better NFS.

They misunderstand the meaning of live service. Even if new updates are stopped, error correction should not be stopped. However, they have no qualms about halting support for products currently on sale in online stores. What a shame. They are neglecting numerous errors in modern hardware under the pretext of ending live services without doing anything. Now, all 7 NFS games sold in online stores have become zombies. This franchise will now sink beneath the surface, and we won't see it until at least 2028.
