I’m already pretty quick and Can run (at my best) around an 11.6 flat, but I know I have the potential to be much faster since I’m 6’3, and an 11.6 isn’t going to be a super crazy time compared to the schools I’m competing against

Thank you for the very informative video. I have a young child (boy age 7) who has recently started to run with a group that promotes fitness and activity for kids. It’s not competitive just for fun and fitness. He is running a 1/4 mile race and he seems to enjoy it. My question, we were thinking of getting him involved with track and field as something to continue to keep him active. He is pretty fast but his form is needs work. What would you suggest for his age group to help work on improving running mechanics for sprinting? I don’t want him to develop bad habits. Thanks!

How low should I stay in my acceleration phase? I’m fairly tall at 5’11 and I’m pretty much around a 45 degree angle, but I see other sprinters either go at a 60 degree angle or even 30 degrees. I know it’s mostly preference but I wanna know your thoughts. And how should I avoid “hunching” my back when I’m low? I try and keep my back straight but it’s hard because I feel like I’m gonna fall forwards lol
@coachwelly5 жыл бұрын
45 degrees for the most part is ideal. You avoid arching by making sure your hips are forward and not behind your center of mass. The almost falling forward could have a lot to do with that added with, just speculating,but you are probably not popping your knee forward, or you are just leaning too far forward.

Thank you for sharing this video. My daughter is 11 and she's a point/shooting guard. Her skills are good, but she's lacking speed. Would you recommend your drills for basketball players? if so, how often per week and how many reps? Thanks!
@coachwelly5 жыл бұрын
Vanita Moore these drills are great for anyone that wants to gain speed, and better their acceleration. You can actually do these drills 1-2x a week. The wall and arm drills are reps of 10, and are completed 10 times (you call out a number 10x). For the rapid fire it is 3 x 5 seconds. Then all of the drills 2-3 x for 15-20m. Hope that’ll made sense.

Nice Video! My son is 11 and fast, and he pumps his arms nicely(once he gets moving)....I'm trying to teach him acceleration. @coachwelly6 жыл бұрын
It depends on who you talk to. I recommend you don't do max velocity sprints 3 days a week, that would be a lot on your body. 2 max, and weight training you can execute 3 x a week. I have trained a few soccer athletes myself. You guys are the easiest to change, because you typically don't use your arms or lift your knees when running during soccer games.

@@coachwelly Yeah. I usually do fartlek, 100-200m repetition or just 80m,60m sprints.

Sir I never ran before and I am going to face 800 meters in 2:30 minutes.I started practicing before 1 week but due to shin pain I can't even walk now.Physician suggested either total rest or walk.can target achievable in 2 month practice with my weight 73 kg and height 167cm.
@coachwelly5 жыл бұрын
If you have a 2 month slot before you are to run, walking may not be a good thing. Shin splints happen often, especially when you are learning either how to run properly, or if you are stomping while running. What types of workouts are you doing? As far as running goes.

@@coachwelly workout undergone is 100 meter sprints,800 meters daily running and stretching.

I'm a 16 year old female and I've dealt with shin splints pretty much all season. Our very first track meet for the 100m my time was 14.11 and ever since I developed shin splints my time has been aroumd 14.34. I don't know rather it's just the shin splints that slowed me down or my technique. Do you have any tips or advice?
@coachwelly5 жыл бұрын
Do you have any video I can see. There could be several reasons.
@kattbandit56335 жыл бұрын
@@coachwelly unfortunately I don't but my coach has been saying it looks as if I'm in pain when I run and it's been preventing me from going 100% at track meets. I thought the problem might have been my running shoes so I got new ones that my coach approved of and it was getting better but I still couldn't go 100%. So he let me continue running the 4×1, and 4×4 but took me off the 4×2.
@coachwelly5 жыл бұрын
@@kattbandit5633 that could definitely be a part of the problem, but only part of the problem. I would need to see you run in order to give a true diagnosis.

sir i'm a 31 yro man who has never ran before. i'm 175cms and 83 kg. in 6 months, a physical test is coming where i should clear 100m in 14 sec. my current time is 18sec no matter how hard i try. is this possible to improve within 6months? if i run in spikes, will i be able to clear in 14sec? thanking you in advance.
@coachwelly7 жыл бұрын
Of course it is possible. You have to do a lot of running. A work out I recommend is running 10 x 100m at 18.5 pace with a minute rest. As you get in shape decrease to 18 second, then 17.5. After a few months 14 second 100m will be doable.

thank you so much sir.this means a lot as i was already losing my hope. sir, if i run on 2 consecutive days, there will be a slight pain on my shin. so is running on alternative days okay?

suseel kumar yes. You can even run on grass to relieve some of your shin pains. Ice your shins too afterwards.

Hey I am a freshman 100m, 4x100m, long jump, and triple jumper do these drills also apply for power off the block in jumps?
@coachwelly4 жыл бұрын
As far as you accelerating down the runway, yes they do help. But there are no blocks in the jump events.
@dylansledge96164 жыл бұрын
I was meaning when you jump off the block into the pit
@coachwelly4 жыл бұрын
You have to learn the penultimate step. Also a lot of plyometrics.

Sir nice vedeo...will u plz explain how the beginers run fast ... It's for compitative exam..hundred meter in 20sec..plz sir
@coachwelly5 жыл бұрын
If you are a beginner, you should focus first on becoming a better sprinter. Learning the correct mechanics of sprinting. This entire series can help with that. Then you must sprint. It's a rather simple equation.

How many days a week should middle school youth practice these drills? Thanks

2-3 x or depending on what you are doing during the week. You want them to make the movements become natural

My son is a 200m runner how can he help drop his time in the 100m
@coachwelly6 жыл бұрын
jewlz deshommes how old is he? You can drop his time a few ways. Work on his form, work on his power output (legs stronger), work on his acceleration, and work on his speed endurance (50 to 150m). Getting him running as fast as he can over those distances.

It all depends on what you are doing. If you are simply getting a long run in, not so much.
