This was all just a game to him essentially, & the only goal was getting back at Vergil. But Lady's words sparked a long dead fire in Dante. What _did_ he know about family? *He didn't.* His father was no where to be found when demons came to kill him, his brother, & his mother in revenge for sealing the demon realm. He thought his brother died with his mom that fateful night. Their reunion the year before was anything but heartfelt... But maybe now he had a chance. _To make up for lost time._ *_"... @@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames also, a prequel book released around the first game revealed that he got those two custom made by some badass old gunsmith lady named Nell, who made them for him, since other pistols couldnt handle his trigger-finger and quickly broke. At some point she was attacked while working on them. Knowing she would soon die, she spent her last hours completing her "masterpieces". She died in Dantes arms shortly after presenting the guns to him, succumbing to the deep slash in her back.

That fight is probably my favorite part of the series and gaming as a whole. It's such a strong introduction to an antagonist. What I like is how Dante jokes and Vergil plays along with him. He doesn't play at all with anyone but Dante but it shows that he's not as cold as he acts towards others. He acknowledges Dante and shows he's not so different. I won't spoil it but he shows this side of himself a bit more. The type of banter they have between each other is the kind of stuff the MCU wishes it could do half as well.

Sparda gifted Dante and Vergil two swords, Rebellion and Yamato, while Eva gave them two amulets. Demons of some sort retaliated in their childhood, killing Eva and separating Dante and Vergil. Sparda's whereabouts are unknown. The twins came out of the experience with drastically different perspectives, especially in regards to their heritage. Dante and Vergil are capable of shifting to a more powerful Demonic form, which the game calls "Devil Trigger". 3, being a prequel, shows how Dante awakened his, when he was skewered by his "unawakened" Rebellion. Devil Trigger being one of the more memorable elements of the series, this is why the moment was given such focus. While you will be playing DMC 5 in the future, it is advisable to watch the story for 1 and 4 beforehand, as they fill in some details and introduce major characters and objects who appear in 5. DMC 5 has a short digest video that sums things up, but this is KZbin, you know where to find it. DMC 4 and 5 also append more significance to Rebellion and Yamato as objects of power. Trivia: Around the 2000s, the JRPG Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne, had a collaboration with Devil May Cry 2, where Dante appeared in the former as a boss character, which gave rise to the infamous joke "Featuring Dante From the Devil May Cry Series!" In exchange, the main character designer for SMT, Kazuma Kaneko, would design the Devil Trigger forms for DMC 3. Kazuma's artstyle is unique, to say the least, using unique textures and patterns, and molded body shapes. While fascinating, it certainly didn't gel well with fans at the time, who were used to the old fashioned gothic style of DMC games. I wouldn't say backlash, but let's say SMT and Persona weren't as well known back then as they are now, so people wouldn't understand the significance of having Kazuma Kaneko do art for DMC.

So, fun fact: The original Devil May Cry game, which came out in the early 2000s, was actually meant to be Resident Evil 4. During production, one of the devs noticed how one of the zombies was behaving as if it was possessed instead of being infected with something. The more they worked on the game, the more they realized the enemies were behaving differently. Instead of Resident Evil 4, they decided to create a brand new game all together, thus Devil May Cry was born. If you look at some of the concept art for Devil May Cry 1, you can see some similarities between that game and the zombies from Resident Evil, really showing how Devil May Cry got it's inspiration, just adding their own twist to it with some demonic features.

Little fun history of DMC. Their are 2 light novels that explains Dante life before this game where he was called Tony Redgrave and how he got his pistols from Nell Goldstein. They are the most powerful guns in the world and the only ones that Dante doesn't break by accident. They even have Tony Redgrave and Ebony & Ivory written on the guns as a gift from Nell before she died in an explosion. He also meets Vergil but didn't know who he was at time and eventually discovers he was alive instead of dying when demons burned their house when they were children.

29:31 From what I know of the original creator of the Devil May Cry games Hideki Kamiya he goes in with a very simple inspiration and tries to base the game and protagonist on that so with Devil May Cry his whole inspiration in the Dante character was cool it's something that was kind of faltered in Devil May Cry 2 but in Devil May Cry 3 - 5 they stayed more true to that. He also directed the first Viewtiful Joe game(which that series was pretty popular) and was one of the creators behind Bayonetta and he based that game on sexy.

I think Mikami deserves heeps of praise for not shitcanning the project when it strayed away from what he wanted originally but Kamiya was the director and ideas behind Devil May Cry.

I wish the scene would have covered the villains rage modes. Agni and Rudra is definitely some badass characters. It’s not wise to defeat them one at a time. The goal is to try to kill them simultaneously killing one will make the other very angry and the remaining one will attack Dante with both swords until he is defeated.

Just a side thing, Dante’s Devil Trigger can change colors. It’s usually red but when he was using Cerberus (the Nunchucks) against Nevan (The Lightning Succubus) you can see it’s a light blue. There’s a boss that gives you a weapon that when being used it can make the Devil Trigger white. As well the “hair styles” that the Devil Trigger has will change same with the “outfit” that Devil Dante is wearing. So for Nevan, his Devil Trigger looks like it’s wearing a longer coat and his “hair” changes to look like winged horns and he looks like he wears heeled boots. With Cerberus his “hair” is spiked in a V shape and it looks like he has wings on his back etc. The same stuff can happen with Vergil when you do a play-through for him.

fun fact about Agni and Rudra, one of the DMC novels establishes that, to justify why Dante starts each game with none of the devil arms (weapons made from demons) from the last one, he stores all of them at a friend of his' pawn shop, and pays him to keep them safe and not sell them (well, some places on the wiki say they act as collateral for his debts to this friend, there's some conflicting info)... All except Agni and Rudra, who he was so annoyed with because they wouldn't stop talking that he just straight up sold them instead

Devil May Cry was an action game series, that instated the "Rule of Cool" in a an action game. Everything the Protagonists do is over the top, ridiculous and insane, and so is the actions of the players, when playing. DMC was the first game where you could juggle with your enemies in the air, and also had a "Coolness" meter depending on your combo chains. DMC 1, released in 2001 on PS2, was actually at first a Resident Evil 4 game. But the work the team had made on the new, more action oriented combat engine, was so far off what people knew and expected of a Resident Evil game, that the guys at Capcom, decided that it was just not what a RE game needed, nor was it the direction that they wanted to take the franchise at the time. They did see however the potential for a brand new game, so they gave the work on RE4 to another team, and the team working on it, was ordered to continue in the direction they where headed. And so Devil May Cry became its own game. The Resident Evil influence was still Hugely present, even tho it was a fast paced action game, it still had Gothic/Eerie environements that asked for the player to explore, with Puzzles to solve and key items to find to be able to advance in the game, and also some back tracking with a fixed camera overseeing the action. Wich were all elements that was the hailmark of Resident Evil games. Even up to the 4th game some of the game designs from RE was still present, Gothic/Eerie environements, not a fully controlable camera, puzzle solving even tho it is a High Octane Action game. Devil May Cry was so popular that it became a videogame genre, like how every FPS in the 90's where called "Doom-likes" after Doom's release, all 3rd person Action games, were called "DMC-likes", God of War at release was dubbed as a "DMC-like" game, until GoW became its own thing and so other games where also called "GOW-like".

His guns say "FOR TONY REDGRAVE BY 45. ART WARKS" on 1 side and "Ebony & Ivory" on the other which is the name of his pistols. Tony Redgrave is an alias for Dante and .45 Caliber Art Warks is the gun shop name he got them made at. And yes I know I'm a turbo nerd. I'm pretty sure they say her name in the game at some point. Also you got the order right the games go in chronological order 3,1,2,4,5 and DMC is an alternate timeline thing but you can probably skip 2 it was......bad. It's pretty much the opposite of 3. Dante was a super serious stoic character. I think they wanted him to be more of a grownup so he stopped joking around but it took all the fun out of it. Plus a lot of the new features didn't help you when your playing. Like you see the combos where it says, Dope Crazy Blast ect. (D,C,B,A,S) you get them by dealing damage with different moves so just stabbing something doesn't increase the combo much but knocking an enemy in the air, shooting him, stabbing when he falls down, switching to dual swords and doing a combo off of that will increase the meter much faster. So the game rewards you for being fancy which feeds into Dante's attitude. DMC2's features kind of screws all that up. So it didn't do well as far as I can tell and Capcom released DMC3, overcompensated, turning Dante back into a snarky asshole to everyone's delight and he stayed there through DMC5. Also everyone seems to forgot DMC2 happened. None of those characters return. Well, it only had like 2 new characters and 1 died, but Lucia was cool. But Cante already has 2 ladies following him around guess he didn't need a 3rd.

Yeah definitely want to skip 2 if they make Dante super serious and take away all his fun. Love how he is in this game and definitely don’t want that to change for no good reason 🙂😎🤟

I'm really glad you two enjoy Devil May Cry 3 so much! After DMC3, watch the first one. Then there is an anime that takes place after the first game, it's pretty good and DMC5 has a character from it and another has a cameo. Skip DMC2, it sadly doesn't add anything important to the story, or watch it anyway, maybe you will get some enjoyment of it. Then watch DMC4 and after that you are ready for DMC5!

If one of your other commenters is right and they DO make a new anime it would be pretty awesome by today’s standards. The art for the original DMC anime was nice tho. It was only like 5 episodes so if you got nothing else to do (tho you both are probably busy 🐝’s) give it a spin. It’s an experience. I did like the anime Easter egg in 5.

As a fan, I enjoy so much watching this storyline as a movie (I wish to see an actual movie with actors) - and I really enjoy your reactions. :) DMC 3-5 - you'll have to watch the whole story (you can skip DMC 1, 2 and DmC - not much to lose TBH). It's for sure my favourite (at least it's at the very top tier of my list) game franchise. Not only the storyline is fantastic (and if you didn't noticed already, it's highly based on legends, myths, gods, etc.), but also it's really deep, well balanced between dark/serious and humor, characters are well scripted (and motion captured with real actors) and that soundtrack is just a pure gold. Also, I think you'll love to check (in the future) Mafia: Definitive Edition storyline/gameplay - a remake based on the very first Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven game (which is my another top tier game ever made) that will take you for a trip to USA during prohibition times. I only can wish to see a movie based on this storyline. Another briliant franchise with great gameplay/storyline that I'd like to recommend is Max Payne (1-3) (tier like above - beside, remakes of MP1-2 are on their way, so it may be worth wait for them).

Max Payne is a franchise we need to start covering and I love the mafia stories. Just in general that kinda story. But played first mafia game long time ago. Will have to check out newer stuff 😀

Well, to clear things up, DmC: Devil May Cry isn't really related to the story at all, since it's basically a reboot of the series, but they changed a lot of things, to which a lot of people weren't happy about. That version of Dante, or Donte, was way too edgy and seemed like he was on crack, even during the reveal trailer back in 2011, I believe. One thing I hated about that reboot was that none of the enemies seemed intimidating, same with the bosses. I didn't feel like the game/devs didn't do a well enough job to show how intimidating or anything like that for the enemies. The enemies were way too easy, even on Dante Must Die mode, the hardest difficulty in the game series.

After catching up to Devil May Cry 5, you 2 should do Bayonetta next that way you can then watch their Death Battle. Dante's arsenal so far consists of: Guns: Ebony and Ivory, Automatic Pistols A Sawed-off Shotgun The Artemis Bow, Demonic Laser Bowgun. Don't know if they are all just magical or demonic but unlike Lady's guns, he never has to reload his guns. Melee Weapons. (So Far): Rebellion, gift from his father. Cerberus, Ice enchanted Nunchucks Agni & Rudra, two serrated scimitars. Agni controls fire, Rudra controls wind. Nirvana, guitar/scythe that controls Lightning & Bats. My favorite weapon will show up next viewing.

@@xenowarrior282 There's actually limited bullets used, we see this in 4 with bosses because Dante needs to weaken them first and in 3, we rarely see them used and there's this one artwork for 3 with bullets on his desk with his guns so it's a bit more complicated but in gameplay, there is ofc no limit especially with Nero and Lady.

@@artistanthony1007 Except check 3's scene with Dante first meeting Jester. He fires so many bullets and not once reloading. We see this again after his fight with Vergil 2. This means he has infinite bullets in canon. The only people we ever see reload in the entire series is Lady and Nero. Lady because she's human and can't create bullets and Nero because he's still new to his demon powers. But we see in the dmc5 intro cutscene he has learned to create bullets, as he not once reloaded in that entire sequence despite shooting more than 6 bullets.

Sparda was the devil's right hand man. When The devil lost the war against heaven and got sent to hell, Sparda was pissed, as Satan just wanted to be the new god, not institute a democracy like he'd promised. So Sparda used the sword he gave Dante, Rebellion the sword that brings man and demon together, to kill Satan, and every demon between him and the gates of hell. Then used the sword he gave Vergil, Yamato, the sword that separates man and demon, and his pendant, to seal the gates of hell shut. Almost dead, a Nun found him and nursed him back to health. He convinced her to leave the convent and get married, using the pendant as a wedding ring. They had twin boys, Dante and Vergil who each got half the amulet and a sword. But when the boys were 5-6ish, all the demons that had left hell before the gates were sealed surrounded the house, using his wife and children as hostages to get Sparda to face them unarmed. Dante's mom shoved Dante into the chimney, and ran into the woods with Vergil. Dante had to hear his dad die fighting the demons. Vergil had to hear his mom die luring them away from his hiding spot. They both wanted to grow up to be just like their dad. Dante to be a man who would die defending those he cared for. Vergil wanted to become the strongest demon in all the worlds, so that no one can possibly beat him. So long as he has no loved ones to be used against him. They ended up going in completely opposite directions to imitate the same person. Dante started the Devil May Cry business, where people pay him to kill demons. Vergil hunted down every demon he could find to get more powerful, and find a way to break into hell and kill all the demons there. After all, if he wants to be as strong as his dad, he has to beat the NEW devil and king of Hell to prove it.

DMC Monday, yay! :D I'm happy you guys are so into it, this game is just legendary. About Lady's real name, don't worry, it will be revealed later. About her skills, the game doesn't explicitly say it, but it shows in some scenes that as good as she is, she can't reach the level of skill and supernatural stamina of people like Dante (like in the final scene you guys watched, where he basically toys with her while she gives it her all). It's kind of a subtle way to establish her humanity among beings like Dante and Vergil. There was never official information regarding this, but I'd say Lady trained to be a gymnast as a kid and teenager, based on her moves.

Rewatching DMC3 always makes me wish DMC2 gets a reboot, as it's the only game in the series that has Dante seem like he's over his issues with his family, and helps another demon, Lucia become a hero. Unfortunately it was made rushed and gets forever tarnished as an irredeemable game that shouldn't be referenced, which I think is unfair cuz Lucia is basically like a mix of Lady and Dante, and would be amazing if she were in a decent game

Yeah, except it wasn't fun or challenging, that's why it gets thrown off to the side. Just pressing attack and moving your stick is not challenging, you can button mash attack and never get hurt. I actually tried to enjoy 2, but it's just not 1 or 3. I'll give them credit that Dante is much more matured and serious, just lousy gameplay is too blame.

So in ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 you get Dante Vergil and Trish as playables. When it was first released lots of people were bitching about the amount of weapons/combos Dante had. I’m like if you ever played the actual DMC games that’s kinda Dante’s schtick. He’s got probably 10-20 different weapons across the entire DMC series. Agni and Rudra are my favorite of all Dante’s weapons. Aside from Rebellion (his main sword his father gave him) and Ebony & Ivory (the two handguns)

Just to let you know, Capcom made it to where the series goes in this order. 3, 1, 2, 4 and then 5. So if you want to watch it by Story, doing in that order. Once you get to 5, you'll start to understand more about Vergil.
