Interesting note regarding Vergil's VA, Dan Southworth. By the time he had to come in to record his lines, he had a headcold, so his nose was stuffed up, and that changed how his voice sounded. Once you get your hands on 5, you'll see how much love was put in it. But you'll need to understand DMC 1, 3 and 4. I never put the comparison of Dante and Star-Lard, but I can see it. The tunes and the ego are definitely the same. Star-Lord is 80s rock, while Dante is more early 2000s. Also to clarify Star-Lord was never into the tunes as much as he was when he made is debut back in 2014, that was all James Gunn, then Marvel changed Star-Lord to match his MCU counterpart but kept his origin the same. Dante is more Deadpool, as in he never takes anything seriously and he's practically immortal. Also nice on the creator of the video lining up Vergil's and Dante's story as one. Yeah, back in 2005, this was Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, set 10 years before the events of DMC 1. Fast forward a year later, re-released as Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition, which added in Vergil's story. Glad you're enjoying this, and look forward to your journey of DMC 3. Side note: glad you like the music in the game. Devils Never Cry is Dante's theme, and the series in general has great music that gets louder the more stylish your combos are.

He hasn't had any say in the franchise since 1. He can say whatever he wants, but DMC hasn't been his franchise in over 2 decades. And two, DMC does not have a single reference to Bayo in any of it's material. Game or otherwise. You'd also have to deal with the plotholes that arises if they do exists in the same universe. *Devil May Cry* (1/Original), *Devil May Cry 3* and *Devil May Cry 4* are my favorites of the series. I adore the 1st game a lot, I remember getting it to play on the original PS2 and was completely blown away by the graphics, the music, and its incredible combat that had so much depth and was so much more enjoyable than any other action-adventure game I had played before then, it pretty much set the bar for any other action-adventure games to come, oh and the overall atmosphere of the game and its soundtrack is still up there for me in terms of setting the mood and immersion, it felt like I was both completely isolated and oppressed (in an overpowering/overwhelming weight on your spirit kind of way) in this ridiculously expansive and evilishly creepy place, definitely much more dark and ominous than any of its successors (the reason for this darker tone in the atmosphere and music is quite simple actually, *Devil May Cry* started out as a sort of prototype for what *CAPCOM* was making into *Resident Evil 4,* but the developers ended up changing focus and starting over on *Resident Evil 4* but they still kept many of the ideas they had and the things they had already worked on and a group of developers that had been staples of the *Resident Evil* games started a whole new project, an IP that would end up becoming the first *Devil May Cry* all the way back in 2001). Have always loved the series' focus on fast-paced, highly-stylized combat mixed in with the over-the-top action sequences and coolness factor of Dante as a character (even if sometimes it can come off as a bit cheesy). Personally, I'm not a fan of the artistic direction of the latest entry in the series, I'm not in favor of the overall shift into the more realistic (as in lifelike, I'm not talking about quality) graphics for the characters, going so far as now re-modeling the characters after real-life actors instead of maintaining their original looks that they had since the series inception, a series that has always been pretty much made and animated in the style of anime... although the combat of the 5th entry still remains top notch, so that's one thing I can't complain about.

A fun fact about this game is that A LOT of it is based on The Divine Comedy by Italian author, you guessed it, Dante Alighieri. In the novel, his guide through Dante's vision of Hell is Virgil, whom was a Roman poet and a real life person he knew and was a sort of inspiration. I don't recall much of the poem since it has been a LONG while, but I DO recall that the in the Divine Comedy, the 3rd Layer of Hell was described as a desolate snowy landscape that had Dante's iteration of Cerberus, running around, killing and eating people. And Cerberus is the 3rd Level boss and its power is ice. That's such a really cool homage.

YAY! We getting all DMC'd on now! Gawd I love these games, and DMC3 is a STRONG start to your experience with the series! So I'm assuming you're breaking up DMC3 to cover all of April then? Sounds like a good time! :D At this rate it'll take a while to get to DMC5 but I'm a fairly patient man in most areas of my life lol. ;) You can pretty much skip DMC2, even the later games pretty much refuse to acknowledge it. You legit will not miss a THING storywise that will EVER be mentioned again in 4 or 5 lol. DMC1 would probably be well-served by a video like this one, largely just cutscenes for the most part (though the little bits of gameplay to fill in gaps between the cinematics don't hurt). I feel like the cinematic experience really amps up with 4 though. Graphics take a big step up, we get a lot of new characters and a pretty dope new setting (technically they ALL take place in their own new areas but DMC4 is just a little different IMO). 4 and 3 fight each other for my second-favorite game in the series, with DMC5 taking the throne. I'm so excited to get to join you on this new journey! I love sharing stuff I love with people who can get just as much out of it as I do! Dante and Vergil are just the definition of "swag" lol, and they're easily two of my top 10 favorite video game characters of all time. Looking forward to every minute of this!
@Mr-Geist-Bong2 жыл бұрын
For me 3 will always be the king aside from the gameplay department. 4 takes the crown for that thanks to inertia, the complexity of the combat and how the devil bringer played a huge part in nero's gameplay. My order is 3, 4, 5, 1, 2. I loved the fifth game, especially Dante and Nero's DT's, but it felt like too much of a repeat of what we'd already seen before. After a 10 year wait though I didn't mind it as much as other games. The end boss was fantastic, but it seemed like the Virgil DLC retconned some of the change you see in him which really confused me. That being said I heavily appreciate the air taunts and little things like being able to test new moves first. I would love a Sparda prequel or sequel since his fate wasn't really told to us. I have mad respect that 5 was a love letter of a game to the fans that waited patiently and I do believe it exceeded expectations. I will say I started with DMC 3 so I'm a little bias towards it.
@ericmartin88702 жыл бұрын
@@Mr-Geist-Bong My first game in the series was actually 2 lol, so just IMAGINE how good it felt for me that the games just got better and better as they went on lol! But yeah, DMC3 is easily my favorite of the original trilogy and I do believe it holds the best narrative story of the series. I'm just a sucker for how the games keep innovating on the combat structure and all the tools available to the player to chain together CRAZY sick combos. The Devil Bringer brought SO MUCH new depth to combat for Nero, and having access to all 4 of Dante's styles to freely swap between mid-combat was AMAZING at the time. For me, 3 and 4 are Dante and Vergil themselves, passion and heart vs artistry and skill...and like the bros, they're destined to duel each other pretty much forever for my #2 spot. DMC5 takes the cake for me because it IS such a love letter to the fans, and it truly feels like the best of the series thrown together into one cohesive experience featuring EVERYTHING I love, just MORE of it. And there are so many "OMG" moments in its story that I just absolutely fanboy over (DSD, anyone!? kept to vague initials to avoid spoilers but if you know you know), that I can't HELP but give it my number 1. It's a fine line between retreading old ground for obvious fanservice, and celebrating the game's legacy by giving us everything we could want from a sequel...but I feel like this game did it well. Just my personal feel of it, though. There's a super strong case for 3 being the best of the series, I just think it matches 4 in overall merit and 5 just edges them out lol. It's the narrow margin of having a 10.0 game just slightly beating a pair of 9.5 games lol. I love them ALL, so much it's hard to pick a favorite...but 5 wins in my book just for being EVERYTHING about DMC that I adore.
@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames2 жыл бұрын
We have heard 2 can be skipped, maybe we just get a full recap of the story and anything relevant in two will be seen in that before we eventually play 5. But as you said, it’s gonna be a bit before we do as we lots to check out. And yes, all of April will just be DMC 3 😊
@ericmartin88702 жыл бұрын
@Definitely Not Definitive - Games Haha yeah, once you've seen the story stuff for the 3 GOOD games out of the first 4, you'll be able to follow the quick little recap video that comes along with 5. Literally there's like one vague throwaway line in it that references DMC2 lol. Some very light nonsense like "Many demons tried to invade Earth, but they couldn't match Dante's power. All was at peace in the human world...for a while." Nobody cares about DMC2, not even the creators lolol.

Yeah, 3 takes place before the first game, but otherwise takes place in the order released. So excited you're going on this particular journey, Devil May Cry is definitely an awesome franchise. Dante is one of those perfect laid back, mouthy, snarky, flashy, badass antiheroes that we all love. Definitely fun to play as, though all the protagonists throughout are fun in their own ways. Cheers! 😁 As a side note, Gamer's Little Playground is definitely one of the best channels for seeing game cutscenes and key gameplay bits turned into movies for those that just want to experience the story.

The OG order was 3, 1, 4, 2, 5 but then Capcom retconned that to 3, 1, 2, 4, 5 for the fifth game. They know that 2 is the black sheep and didn't want to elaborate on it.

Thing about dmc is the music is always top notch and the genre that plays in combat changes depending on the personality of who you're playing with. I love DMC 3 of all the DMC franchises. Theres nothing beat this game in term of tone, story, music, atmosphere, character design,... Its over the top but somehow remains somewhat serious and never feels weird and pretentious.Theres a huge gameplay development with DMC 5 but this one remain my most special one. Good news is there's an animated show, or US anime version, of DMC coming out soon. From Adi Shankar, the one behinds the Castlevania animated series, perhaps one of the most success series adapt from game/anime/manga.

So you mention how Vergil fights with such skill and grace, and that is actually reflected in how he plays. His meter builds while standing still and walking, trying to run won't build meter. He plays being in a clear mindset of not mashy or panicky. One of his best moves is a frame perfect input.

I think you misunderstood the backstory, Dante isn't the one who closed off the demon realm, his father did. Essentially, there was once a powerful demon named Sparda who fell in love with a human woman and they eventually had twin sons. But in order to stop the demon army from invading the human world, Sparda sealed off the way between the two worlds and died as a result since he loses his power with it. Dante and Virgil story take place years after that.
@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for helping clear that up 😀
@M7S4I5L8V2A2 жыл бұрын
It's not something a lot of people knew about until DMC 4 but we do know what Sparda's human form looked like all the way back in 1. It's a skin you have to unlock that's just Dante wearing a suit, fancy coat, and a monocle. Vergil has his own version in DMC4 as well. Also Ninja Turtle is the perfect description of Dante especially at this time. He gets more wacky later but he only fails in DMC3. I would still recommend watching DMC 1 after this simply because of how important it is to the overall series. It's when Dante is at his most serious, it's the only game where he has a big large scale battle, and it set the standard for everything to come including gameplay. Not saying you have to play it but each game has it's own thing going on despite having the same base mechanics so it's worth going back to one day. There is no one perfect DMC game because they all deviate and call back in different ways. The only one who's perfect is Vergil.

We plan to check out 1 and 4 before playing 5. So we won’t be jumping into 5 right after this month (which will be focused on 3) the video for cutscenes for 1 is a lot shorter and we can do it in one video. Then 4 maybe we will play as well or do something similar like we are doing for 3 🤔

Yes 3 is the prequel i think it goes dmc 3, 1, 4 , 2 and 5 or maybe 5 and then 2 I’m not sure. But I know dmc 2 wasn’t very good and had a whole different vibe and for some reason they made dante pretty old and made the cutscenes and game super serious, so if you guys play through the series you could definitely skip out on 2 you wouldn’t be missing out on anything.. plus when you get to dmc 5 it will give you a recap of all the last games somewhere in the main menu so you could just get whatever story there was from that game.
