The Phoenix Suns fired head coach Monty Williams after they were eliminated by the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Semifinals. After the firing Devin Booker tweeted “36 unbothered.” Nick Wright, Chris Broussard, and Kevin Wildes discuss what is next for the Suns and debate if Kevin Durant needs to win a title in Phoenix to save his legacy.

90s nba was fairly weak compared to other decades. In 80s there was too many great players on too few teams. 2000s ushered in the lakers/spurs. Look at the teams bulls played in the finals. Which one of them really had a chance? 1994 bulls were couple plays away from making ecf WITHOUT Jordan. There’s so many great players in the nba today. It’s really not comparable. You can talk about the physicality all you want but todays players would’ve adjusted.

The problem with KD's string of recent failures is that it recontextualizes his legacy with GSW. He has shown a lack of ability to make decisions and hit shots when defenses focus on him and they don't have to deal with the greatest floor spacing of all time surrounding KD. It isn't just the lack of intangibles that stop him from winning a championship outside of GS, but it is also just an issue of skill and IQ, and it has painted his years with GSW in a new light. Now almost everyone believes that Curry is better than KD and that KD needed curry.

Yall do realize no player in NBA History has come back and played at the level he has post Achilles. They are bringing all this context and leaving out the Achilles injury. Kevin Durant is just not the same player he used to be post-injury. He can put up numbers, but when you get physical his body cannot take the same punishment. Before the injury getting physical never bothered him but now it seems to be something that can work. He is only getting older also. He might need to put on some weight or something.

Do you remember when Kd, Kyrie, Harden, Blake Griffin & Deandre Jordan blew a fully healthy warriors team out by 23 points in their 3 or 4th game played together the season before last? That same season/post season Kd got called for 2 when it was an actual 3 against the Bucks; the same post season Kyrie & James harden suffered injuries and Kd beat a healthy Milwaukee with a 49 point triple double all by himself? The same season Kyrie’s off the court bs interfered with their play time. The same season Kd was injured a few months before the playoffs? If this team stayed together and everything went right they would be working on their 3rd ring right now. That’s 2020 - 2021 season is enough to show anyone that what you’re implying about KD is absolutely ridiculous

Problem with KD is people know how to guard him in the post season now where a little physicality is allowed. He needs to hit the weights this summer and bulk up a bit so he can muscle through contact better. Also the coaching was terrible, Monty just shoved KD in a corner like he was Joe Harris or something, and let Booker hog the ball all game.
@seuna.8438
@seuna.8438 Жыл бұрын
I doubt he is ready to make that great change at 34. Adding extra muscles may change his shooting dynamics and that may take him 1 or 2 seasons to relearn. I think he just needs a team that complements his strength not expose his weaknesses. If he plays for a team like Bucks that has 3 Elite defenders in Giannis, Lopez, and Jrue, they won't really need him to play through contact or defend at a top level. He just needs to hang around and shoot. Also, he can defend the easiest man on the opposing team.
@purpleirklegrovestreet
@purpleirklegrovestreet Жыл бұрын
People that tell pro athletes, ESPECIALLY highly skilled ones like basketball players to “just put on muscle” really don’t understand how adding muscle can completely negatively affect certain players. KD, Chet, Brandon Ingram are all players with naturally wirey frames that are NOT built to pack on a bunch of weight at once. These are players who have played a majority of their lives at a slim build. KD is as deadly as he is because of his build… If he packs on a bunch of muscle at this age, his career/ankles are over. There is a reason lebron plays at a much lower weight now and he STILL gets hurt a bunch😂. KD is old, u get less athletic as u get older. Everyone isnt lebron, KD is losing a step. Muscles aint going to slow that down, appreciate him while he is here

As a Suns fan I'm going to miss Monty, but unfortunately it was his time to go. I'm happy that he and CP got us back to a winning team after 10 years, but they never let players develop or create their own shots. Look at Bridges and look Ayton for example. I always said Bridges has Kawhi potential (skill wise) and now look. As far as Ayton goes, it is both their faults. Monty and CP used the #1 pick (over Luka and Trae Young!) as a pick and roll player which lowered his stats, but on the other hand Ayton is soft and clumsy. However, Ayton does have a lot of skill offensively. Suns need to find more players that want to create their own shots and a coach thats not afraid to let players outside of Booker and KD do that as well.

Booker needs to grow up and tone the ego down. Kobe would have never tweeted this after being bounced out like that nor dismissed an exit interview. As for KD, yes staying in BK until at least this summer was definitely the wizest decision from a basketball and business perspective. Could have had a similar or maybe even deeper playoff run there. What adjustments can you make when your stars are constantly underachieving? Players have way more impact in winning and losing than coaches. All the X's and O's Coach Spo is crafting means nothing if Jimmy isn't balling. CP3, Book and Ayton constantly let Monty down when it counted
@shaybelle8495
@shaybelle8495 Жыл бұрын
Monty didn’t even have half the squad he needed to get anywhere near a championship. And I’m saying that as a huge Sun’s fan. The GM/organization let him down by not giving them a full team to work with. No one could have coached that mess. They didn’t even have a steady starting 5. The lineup changed every game, regardless of injuries. He was set up to fail.
@Seddysaid

@michaelkelly4314 did you watch the suns? Lol I can go through paragraphs as to why they're were no proper adjustments. You can tell by then getting blown in the 1st and 3 quarters when the other coach made adjustments. Did you watch the clippers series? Ty Lue made proper adjustments and made his role players look like a really good team. Monty was outcoached that series and if Kawhi and PG were healthy than the Suns would've lost in the first round. Denver series Monty ran nothing but iso ball. Denver was bound to double and even triple Booker and KD. We're there any adjustments? Nope. Now that Monty is fired, do you wonder why any Suns players haven't sent any tribute or thanks to Monty? None.
@Seddysaid
@Seddysaid Жыл бұрын
@shaybelle8495 yeah maybe 1 series or 1 year, but Monty has been outcoached every series since even the finals run. Booker bailed him out almost every year. He should've been fired last year when they got blown out after the first quarter by a mavs team that should've been swept.

Bru is insane about Ayton. He needs to go. And his point about "A guy who gives you 18 and 10" isn't even accurate. Ayton doesn't even consistently produce those numbers. Bru is always talking about "trying" something when the writing has been on the wall for years. Just cut the losses and let him go somewhere he wants to be. The clock is ticking on KD and wasting time on Ayton is just going to squander that.
