Most realistic portrayal of a cat in a film goes to Jones. Only turns up for meals, ignores humans when they really need him to listen and calmly watches humans dying from his safe place.

There is a fun little book someone published that is a picture book story of Jones's experience. It's pretty cute and funny , and of course as a cat he is mostly nonchalant throughout. 😸

@John B a dog saved my uncles life on 2 occasions when he had cardiac arrest while walking him and a dog stopped my granddad from being mugged not long after he had a stent fitted because of his lung cancer. If all dogs and cats where put into the wild dogs would survive much much better. They're stronger, smarter and much more loyal. Cats are a novelty, basically the same as having rats or a bearded dragon as a pet. Useless, just nice to stroke and cuddle with.

@Big Chap I read that Spielberg was forced to not show the shark for most of the movie because the damn thing kept sinking. But seeing those buoys pop up, knowing that big ass shark is still attached to it, was super. For the scene where the shark wrecks the shark cage, they used actual sharks but a miniature cage.
@Matuse
@Matuse 3 жыл бұрын
@@AudieHolland When Spielberg was first approached about directing, his stipulation was that the shark not be onscreen for the first hour of the movie. They also had huge problems getting their mechanical shark working, but not seeing the shark was entirely deliberate.

Alien and Aliens are two my favority horror movies of all time. First one is pure suspence with slow and oppressive atmosphere. Second one is pure action with growing sense of inevitability. Sigourney Weaver is the best example of a strong female character. Strong not due to the muscles, lasers from the eyes, Mary Sue's omniscience, or simply because all men are bad - she is strong because she is weak, but overcomes her fears and ready to sacrifice herself for the sake of others. She's stronger than her space crew, she's stronger than space marines, she's stronger than horrifying alien monsters.

This movie is good on many levels: atmosphere, set and creature design, corporate backstory. Before the alien even arrives, you can already feel how trapped the crew is on the ship, and from the corporation that runs it. Nothing about the ship conveys any sense of comfort to the crew. Cramped corridors and living areas. Monitors, switches, and ductwork in your face everywhere. It's all about serving the company. Hell, I'm surprised they even gave them chairs to sit down (since there is some kind of simulated gravity on the ship).

In the original script, Ripley and Captain Dallas were lovers, which is why it absolutely broke her heart to torch him when she finds him in the alien's cocoon. Also, the movie originally had a much darker ending - the alien bites Ripley's head off in the escape shuttle and then imitates her voice on the radio to fool the authorities as the escape pod heads to Earth.

The reason they went on the alien ship was because they picked up what Ash said was a distress signal. And when dude was like "Fuck that. Pay me". Brought it up, Ash said that if they don't go. They won't get paid for the job they were coming home from. Also, the reason they had bad tactics and no weapons, is that they are basically truckers. Or like a freight barge crew. They aren't scientists or soldiers. They're just regular people doing their day job, and the boss (Mother/the Wayland Yutani Corporation) told them do this shit, or you ain't getting paid for like the last six months of your life. They had to go. But that's also why they were like "Fuck the quarantine rules. We just wanna go home." Let a boss did try to tell me I couldn't leave if one of my guys got hurt doing something we didn't want to do, that they made us do. Shit I'd do the same damn thing as them, and kick the shit out of said boss. Then there would be no survivors of the Nostromo. 😆

@gluuuuue
@gluuuuue 3 жыл бұрын
1) The Nostromo has no guns. As they said, it’s a commercial towing ship. A blurb at the beginning said it’s hauling mining ore material, so it’s like the space equivalent of a barge. Most of the mass of the “ship” is probably some sort of mineral ore. 2) They didn’t offer Parker more money. Dallas had Ash point out that Parker is already contractually obliged to investigate any emergency, distress, or other unknown signals and if he refuses, their work contract means he forfeits his compensation for the entire job (which takes many months of hibernation 1-way). So Parker’s choices were either to help investigate the signal for no additional pay or refuse and get paid nothing for the work and commitment he’s already put in on a nearly completed job other than the return trip.

The "Nostromo" set was a sealed tube, not unlike "Das Boot," which meant the movie crew was "on location." The TV and print ad campaign gave no clues on what the movie was about. (What would you make of "In Space No One Hear You Scream."?) This is the equivalent of a freighter crew being sent to King Kong's Island with instructions to "investigate a radio signal." Angela Cartwright's "Lambert" is standing for us, the unsuspecting audience. Kane's dinner scene is a notorious classic. You're watching the Special Edition version, which has a tad slower pace than the theatrical version, which sets up a problem. Ripley didn't go into the Alien ship to see the rib-like structure of a Xenomorph nest. She says so in "Aliens," when the Colonial Marines find LV-426's colonists. But, in the SE version, she did see a Xenomorph nest. A small point, but that was unknown to James Cameron, as well. When Ripley slammed Ash into the wall of the computer room and he didn't even react, was my "WTF! He's NOT Human!?" moment. This and the next film made Sigourney Weaver into a major movie star and the very definition of a Strong Female Character.

Parker was the MVP the guy literally attacked and wrestled with the alien. The guy may have talked a lot of shit but he truly did care about his mates in the end.

Fun fact the reactions of the cast at the chest-bursting scene were genuine reactions as they did not know what was exactly going to happen.

Alien is very much horror, and Aliens is very much action. It's a great case study of how two very different directors can take two completely different avenues with an idea and still make great movies. If you liked this, the prequel Prometheus came out much more recently in 2012. Solid watch

Such a great movie. You're right of course. If only they had followed procedure none of this would have happened. Still, the chance of finding alien life is worth stopping for. I guarantee you one thing though. Jones wouldn't have made it because I wouldn't have gone back for him. I love how some folks say that guys don't like strong female characters. A million guys who fell in love with Ellen Ripley would beg to disagree, myself included. If you're going to watch Aliens, which you should, be sure and watch the special edition.

Thank you Devin for this reaction video this was definitely one of your bests, they're all good but you know what I mean. Alien is a classic for me. One of the first movies with a female as the victor. Ripley was a badass. It’s full of suspense. And when Ash turns out to be a robot.....yikes! You should probably see Aliens. It’s full of action. Great reaction.

Creepy fact: If you go by the director's cut of the film the order that they die in the film is the same as the order that the actors have died (so far) in real life. Kane-John Hurt Brett-Harry Dean Stanton Ash-Ian Holm Parker-Yaphet Kotto

This movie is 42 years old . I don`t think you can imagine the effect this had on audiences that had never seen anything near this horrific. It`s a testament to Ridley Scott`s craftsmanship that after all this time, it still has this effect on new viewers. An evergreen classic.
