The driver of the van is Oli himself while blindfolded, the reference of him driving is that he is blindly driving himself around and is unaware of where he is headed down the road.

This song is Based on Oli’s story before he was in rehab. The special thing about this song is that it all makes sense when you know that he was an addict and yeah. At this point and although this video existed, the public didn’t know this until he talked about it in 2014. in the credits you can see that the Driver of the ambulance is called Oliver Scott Sykes which is his full name, so the masked driver (aka Oli’s mind or whatever) blindly tries to save the artist/ wounded person in the ambulance called Oli Sykes. Like his mind always searched for a solution but the drug won or something like that. The zombies are for example the crazy fans, his dealer and other stuff that bothered him and put him down. His bandmates are the nurses and doctors in the hospital. When you notice this hint in the credits the lyrics also make sense. This song isn’t about a romance or depression but simply about his addiction. „Started of a one night stand, lingered to a fling...“ That’s why this song hits so hard. One of my favorite songs by them

Yes. Great explanation. And such a well and cleverly thought out video once you know the meaning behind it. He's got such an amazing imagination lyrically and to make it into a visual is just genius. Love this band. They grip me Iike no other. And the bit where he backed it up is the best. The angelic oooooo, followed by his deep OH! Love it. 🤪 Wish they played songs off this album at concerts. But I'm guessing because it's so close to his heart, Terry Hurst and how close to the drug abuse and loosing his friend to suicide. Must be hard to sing them live I guess.

This song and album was released in 2010 during the peak of Oli dealing with a ketamine addiction. A couple years after, he went into rehab for roughly a month to get himself clean, and then when he got out, wrote Sempiternal, which was released in 2013. You can tell the experience clearly changed him, not only in his band’s music, but also his in his appearance during that time. Sempiternal wound up winning “Album of the Year” at the 2014 Alternative Press Music Awards, at which point Oli accepted the award by making a speech revealing his struggle with ketamine. The video is on KZbin, it’s definitely worth a watch.

Oli was a ketamine addict. This song was about his addiction and recovery. “I’ve said it once I’ve said it twice I’ve said it 1000 fucking times, that I’m ok that I’m fine that it’s all just in my mind” he’s recognizing and trying to convince himself that he’s ok, that the addiction is all in his head. “But this has got the best of me and I can’t seem to sleep, but it’s not cause you’re not with me it’s cause you never leave” this is the genius of olis ability as a writer. He humanized his addiction for the listener. He’s makes it seem like he’s absolutely missing someone so much that he can’t sleep due to them constantly being on his mind when he’s actually talking about the constant struggle of being addicted to something. The lyrics can be universal in meaning to multiple people because it translates well to anyone struggling with any mental illness.

This is one of my favorite BMTH songs. Got me through a hard bout of depression. Its about the music industry, and everyone wanting a taste of success when he just wanted to make art. The serpent is women trying to sleep with him and get close to him for the success, the leech is big label businessmen trying to fuck him over as much as possible, the consequence is a representation of the consequences of all the trouble hes gotten himself into, the dirt is journalists waiting for him to mess up etc. etc. The idea of the title is that all of these things plague him constantly. It also digs into drug use and other things, but thats the main point.
