I bought the 3/4" version of this gun. I had a bolt that wouldn't come loose with a 1/2 x 3/4 reducer. I bought a 3/4 drive socket and the nut came off pretty easily. I'm a believer that the 3/4 square provides a lot more torque. Would have been a good test for the milwaukee 1/2" gun. Thanks for posting!

I hammer everything I use and if it breaks I upgrade it, but I found a great tool for nuts like those. A manual torque muliplier and a long breaker bar to break torque beats fighting with a pipe. If the cost is a hassle then you can do what I do and make a slugging wrench for use with a sledge hammer. I weld a QUALITY (I used Snap-on) reducer to a scrap pitman arm so I can hold the socket in place with a long extension then beat on the pitman arm with a hand sledge. It fits in a tool bag (I do lots of salvage yard runs) and there's not much it won't loosen. You can also buy slugging wrenches but they're rather proud of those...

I once repaired Ryobi 3 speed impact wrench, and that one actually had the same switch problem. 1 and 3 at full speed, 2 at bit lower speed. Each switch position had different resistance value, and 3 was at max resistance (means no connection). But, the switch design was bit stupid and speed 1 position could actually go out of metal contact range, so if you push the switch all the way to 1 position, it could actually lose connection and run at full speed just like speed 3. Moving switch little bit towards the center made it work properly. I think yours could be the same case. I repaired it by adding a wire, so contact could be made even if the switch goes out of the range, but not sure whether the same thing can be applied here.

@@TasteMyStinkholeAndLikeIt actually theres reasonable doubt there. A thinner wall will result in more elastic deformation every time the hammer hits and the torque jumps to its rated 1200 ft/lbs of breakaway torque. This slight deformation reduces the applied torque at the end of the socket due to the increased torsional stress within the material. I can't give you numbers off the top of my head but I can simulate the results on my CAD software and show you stress, strain and displacement results that would give a more objective answer than all this speculation. The deformation is clearly an issue as that is the reason the socket gets hung up on the lug nut like that. Ofcourse that is deformation in the radial direction and not torsional, but it could still be nontrivial.

you gotta coat them lug nuts in vaseline about 15-18 minutes before you try and remove them with this particular drill. it adds lubricicity to the impactual work being done and makes the drill work less. you can use peanut butter, but you run the risk of your wife eating the wheel off the axle. good luck.

I was wondering if those things can take the lug nuts off. I think the recommended was just 100 ft. lbs on allow wheels toyota corolla that has similar to gorilla lug nuts (probably gorilla stole the patent and today's gorilla keys do fit but not comfortably like previous generic sockets that used to be sold over counters back then). EDIT: alloy wheels ^ But if ya take ya car to any tire shop for some tires then for sure it is going to get over-torqued with the air impact. Because no one cares about torque specs except me.

I use mine to take off at least 2-4 wheelsets a week on concrete trucks and it held up for over a year before the anvil broke. Dewalt fixed it right up for me under warranty. Be warned it took 2 months to get it back after being sent out. I can't say enough good about this impact. I abuse it HARD daily and it is just as strong as new. Some of the best money I have spent as a professional mechanic.

It's not the tool for over torqued semi lugs, but is very handy for just about everything else and i love that the batteries also fit my drill and sawzall.

The Hammer Is Slipping... Thats Why I Gave Up On My 1/2" Milwaukee 4.0amp But It's Was Taking Forever & Draining The Battery Quick. So I Went With The 3/4" 5.0amp Instead. That Works Wonders & Battery Lasts

If used this same model to remove nuts on a ball joint. It took one and a half fully charged batteries to remove one nut.
