DeWalt DCH172: Any good for rock bolting?

Thank you for your videos. In your opinion, how does this compare with Makita drills dhr 171/182/183 in terms of easyness of use while bolting bottom-up routes? Intended use would be mostly drilling 10 mm holes in limestone/gneiss/quarzite/granite.

They're all suitable for that. The 171 is probably the easiest to control due to its lower RPM, but really any of those will work well. It's really a very small difference between them so maybe go into a store and hold them and see which one feels best for you!

Nice video. New subscriber here. Question: will it make a difference using dch172 in terms of speed and power compared to dcd996? Ive been usung dcd996 in drilling concrete for DIY projects. Thanks

G'day! It depends what you're drilling, but for hard Rock like this the dcd probably couldn't dent it. Drilling concrete with this rock as aggregate will be almost as bad Drilling brick, sandstone, limestone (or concrete with limestone aggregate) or other softer stuff a dcd will work ok. How have your drilling times compared to mine?

i just got one but i was drilling a 22mm hole into brick and it keeps cutting out, is that normal

It's only rated up to 16mm so yes I'd say it's normal that it can't handle a much bigger hole than it's rated for

Great video. Do you have somo experience with Rioby P222? and if yes, what is the best machine in your opinion?

I don't have that Ryobi, but this dewalt should be way better than the Ryobi. It's better than the M18BH Milwaukee, which is made by the same company as Ryobi. And the 12v version of the DeWalt is better than the P222 as shown on Philly fix channel

What type of drill bit did you use?

For the first tests they were Makita standard 2-cutters and for the runtime tests I use Detroit 4 cutters. Usually for bolting coins climbs i use 4 cutters too, cos they work best with my removable bolts

I use this for ground-up FAs. I should have probably gotten a lighter one.

Don't worry about it, by not the lightest it's only like 50 or 100g more that the Makita or Milwaukee but it drills the fastest so I think it's worth it

@@MountainMullet yeah I don't like stance drilling in a stress position longer than I have to, although I have been considering eliminating the clutch. Why do rotary hammer drills have a clutch now? The old ones didn't
