We went back to the g6 with my daughter who has a tbi and short term memory loss. On mdi for 40 years so no pump issues to deal with. We have to keep it as simple as possible. We don’t even use a smart phone-which could lose signal, have a dead battery, be too far away, be misplaced- not to mention the issues people have with the app. She has the receiver on a lanyard around her neck and it still gets lost sometimes.And is always under the passenger car seat or inside the couch(!)She does well on old school mdi and for us- as well as many folks who have cognitive issues-low tech works the best. Thanks by the way for your video on why you don’t use a pump. We feel the same way.

Christel great info. I think Dexcom meant 20 inches not 20 feet. I started swapping which pocket I keep my phone in according to which arm my Dexcom in on. I have thought about getting one of the phone holders that you wear on your arm just to reduce the signal loss. As I just got a shipment on new sensors in, so I went to check them after watching your video and I have the new version. I will be looking to see if they help. Even with the signal loss problem I still like my G7 sensors. I wish that the Dexcom G7 receiver would Bluetooth to my Iphone , then I would keep the Dexcom receiver close. Then the Iphone could share my data with my wife and Clarity for trending. Thanks again for being such a wealth of information!

Thank you so much for posting this. I just upgraded from the g6 and immediately had signal issues. It's particularly problematic for me because I use the g7 with omnipod 5 and when it disconnects constantly it basically screws over my basal rate. My blood sugar has been running high because of this issue. I'm really hoping they improve the signal issue. I really like the omnipod since I'm relatively thin and it's hard to maintain a good rotation of site usage. The g7 complicates this more since I have to keep it close to the omnipod. I'm used to putting the g6 in places where it gets covered when I sleep and not having any issues, but this is completely different. I think I'm going to start with the stomach approach since it's centrally located and I can keep my omnipod relatively close to that. It seems like it doesn't hurt as much to inject the g7 either so maybe that opens up more options like you said the thy area. I wish it had great reception like the g6 I'm so disappointed. I have the newer version of the g7 and it's not much improved. I also don't get why they had to make setup so lengthy with the serial number and pairing. I think that could be simpler especially since I need to program my phone and omnipod pdm every time.

Not sure if this was stated in the presentation, but I found that when the signal is lost you can simply re-enter the code and pair the device again. As good as new.

Again I must thank you for your helpful videos. I have been befuddled by all the complaints about signal loss. For many months I've had no signal loss issues. I have worn the G7 on both my arms and on my abdomen. No problem with signal loss. But 20 days ago I installed a sensor on my abdomen and kept my receiver in a pocket on the other side of my body. I had multiple signal losses every day. I switched the receiver to a pocket on the same side of my body where my sensor was intalled and the signal loss errors disappeared. I can only assume the transmitter in the sensor is very weak.

First sensor and no issues for last 10-days. I looked on the package and the LBL number is underlined. Too early to be definitive, but there has been a world of difference so far. There are two date codes on the box. I assume the first is the manufacturing date. It reads 9-1-2023 on the box I am looking at.

As a long time Freestyle customer, the SECOND Tandem allows me to switch back I will. The readings are more accurate, you don't have to calibrate EVER, the adhesive doesn't leave a gross film residue when you remove it, you don't need additional adhesive to keep it on, its WAY smaller (size of a nickle), lasts 4 days longer, doesn't have the blue tooth errors and if you dont use a pump, it updates by the minute, rather than every 5. The g6 might be the worst products on the market, had the G7 not came out, I would have gone back to the Freestyle after my initial purchase and not used any of the pump intelligence it was soo bad! I am so tired of the non stop useless beeping with Dexcom... That said, thank you! I appreciate you putting out this video as I would not have called in to support about this, not knocking their support, which has been nothing but quality thus far, just crap products...

I completely agree whith you that the Deexcom G7 is just a poorly executed product. Over the course of 6 months of use the G7 function only for 3 -4 days then constantly problems begins: all tims show - SIGNAL LOSS end after 1 day off all this mess the result is to replace the sensor. I was looking for other users withe the same problem and how they were able to get out of it. The result is constant absolute silence. 😢

I moved the sensor to my stomach and its got a little better. Ive also tried keeping my battery power on my pump higher. Unfortunately, these stupid sensors want to die around 7 days… i had my first one actually go dead this last round. The worst side effect to this is that the AI stops working due to the signal loss! The beeping is annoying enough but losing the trending is too much! The Freestyle g2+ is now available and im a fanboi so im going back once this dexcrap supply is gone!

I put a lot of blame on the G7 due to my horrific experience with the G6. Once I was finally able to get back to my product of choice, the Libre, my signal loss continued, maybe even got a little worse, which shocked me as I had never experienced signal loss until I went to Dexcom, when I got my Tandem pump... So now, I am starting to think the problem is the Tandem pump, not the Dexcom or the Libre. Tandem really screwed up Libre's product imo as I loved the 2 and 3 prior to Tandem. Now whenever I have issues, I have to call Tandem and their hoops to test, in order to get a replacement are just stupid... I had to move my Libre to my stomach to fix the signal loss too and I've been trucking fine since, so again, thank you so much for the good advice.

My signal loss is from my tandem pump. I think I was told that it has to line up in a straight line between Dexcom and pump or your receiver on your phone; it seems that it works like radio towers- it needs to “see” between the transmitter and receiver.

I had signal losses initially with G7 but I found if I put my phone and receiver on top of my headboard (the top of the headboard is flat wood), I don’t get signal losses at night. I am a side-sleeper so I put my phone/receiver where they are more in line with the sensor so no signal loss, i.e. sensor on left side, put phone on headboard more to my left side. Elsewhere, I put things on the couch arm or on the pillow on the other side depending on which side my sensor is on, and I do use both arms and stomach for sensor placement. I used to have one of those pocket things where you put a flap under the mattress and it hangs down from the side of the bed, but when my sensor was on my opposite side, I’d get alerts frequently during the night.

Dexcom definitely has bad quality control that the problem that was known and still present on the G6 is now only fixed on a newer version. And it is really bad that they still ship the devices with the old firmware. One other tip (for G6 at least- as I can't use the G7): before replacing your transmitter, remove the old transmitter from your phone's Bluetooth devices. If you have a very long list of dexcom devices listed on the phone, that definitely does not help.

I put a new g6 on yesterday (outside right upper arm) and had no signal loss until I went for a walk tonight. This isn't anything new to me but I'm always trying to figure out the why & how to prevent it. I think it was the act of walking & naturally swinging my arms that made it go out for like 10 min, then back on for about 10, then off for another 10 near the end of the walk. It seems like exercise, hiking, things like that can lead to signal loss which is rough bc it's advertised as exercise friendly (which it should be). A simple walk or hike shouldn't stump the system. I dont use my phone fyi, just the Tandem pump.

I find using the Dexcom receiver much less troublesome than using my cell and the app. Also love the fact the G7 receiver easily lasts as long as the sensors on a single charge. Only had my G7 for about 2 mo. but so far only signal loss I've had was caused by laying on the sensor while sleeping.

I have been applying the G7 sensor on my stomach for the last 6 months. I use an I Phone SE, an Apple Watch SE, and a Dexcom G7 Receiver. Yes, the I Phone likes the stomach a lot better. However the Dexcom G7 receiver rarely losses the signal. I can leave G7 receiver in a room, walk away from it, come back later and it still has not losed signal. I have been getting the new sensors with LBL underlined, but have not noticed much improvement with I Phone signal loss. I wish they would get Bluetooth to Apple Watch working, that might help with some signal loss. Thanks

If your insurance won't cover it, the only other option (after appealing it of course) is cash pay. You can see the price of the different CGMs on GoodRx or ask at your pharmacy. Dexcom G7 is about $60 per sensor (10-day wear) when using their coupon without a prescription

I am going to try the stomach area. My stomach is the best for my insulin sensitivity so maybe the sensor will do better there. Not only do I get signal losses to my phone and pump, this G7 that I have on my arm now has been so inaccurate (showing numbers way lower than what my blood glucose meter shows) which causes my T.I.R. to be way lower than normal. It essentially says that my readings are way lower than 70. I do have the line under the LBL number.

Do you know what the line is for on the graph associated with the insulin? A grey dotted line runs along the graph when you log an insulin injection.

Even on my stomach when my phone is itches away from my sensor, I still get multiple signal losses. I have found the easiest way to get it back and even the quickest way to get it back is to turn Bluetooth off in the settings menu and wait till I get the announcement that I need to turn Bluetooth back on which is about 30 seconds and then I turn it back on and within five minutes I have signal again but many times my phone has been literally just a few inches above the sensor on my stomach, and I still get signal loss now when I had it on my left arm that was a nightmare. Either I will wear it on my stomach or my right arm because my phone is always in my right pocket or on the right side of my recliner. They said it's my phone, I said no it's the app. I took off the 1st due to it being useless but decided to keep the 2nd on for a few more days and here is what I found. Turning blutooth off and on again "refreshed" the connection and all data filled in. Also, closing the app does the same thing, so not a sensor issue pr my phone but just the app. Everything else is great! Just need the dedicated reader device... 😢

I experience sensor loss very infrequently but that may be as I do prefer to wear the G7 sensor on my abdomen and my iPhone which is also my receiver is on a belt clip when I’m up and about. I am more frustrated with the sensor failure that occurs all most always when I’m out of town on vacation or visiting family and it’s time to change my sensor. It has happened 4 times in the past 2-3 months. I usually carry just one replacement sensor when traveling and when it fails have to resort to manual BGM which is beyond frustrating to say the least. Also because I place it on the abdomen which is off label I’m not sure the company will send me a replacement, but to be honest I have not tried as I’m too busy and don’t have the luxury of time when traveling or visiting family to be making calls to the company. Any idea why this happens and what can I do to prevent it from happening?
@DiabetesStrong2 ай бұрын
I let Dexcom know where I place it (also if it's off-label) when I request a replacement and so far I haven't had any issues with getting replacements. I've only had a few sensors fail. One I think it a muscle and failed after 10 hours, and a few others were very inaccurate and after a few calibrations, they failed. I can't explain why some people, like yourself, see so many sensor failures. I don't necessarily think you're doing anything wrong but it seems like some people's bodies and CGMs have a complicated relationship...

If it's a consistent difference, like always 10-20 mg/dl off, they might just be calibrated differently. They can also be different when blood sugars are changing. The reason is that a CGM measures in the fluid under the skin, and that's about 10-15 min behind the bloodstream.

I don't use a phone OR a receiver with my sensors. I use a Tandem insulin pump. This is very frustrating because the pump needs the signal in order to make real time delivery adjustments. I think most signal losses I get occur when I am reading something on my phone as it interferes with the signal. Also when I am sitting for longer periods of time with my pump in my pants pocket. Sadly they use RF (radio frequency) rather than bluetooth to connect the devices to each other. RF is a line of sight signal which can be blocked by just about anything (even your body) so it's omportant to always have the pump on the same side of the body as the G7.

I think it can go directly to three items. So right now mine should go directly to my Tslimx2 and my phone and it should be direct to watch some time this year. Right now it has to have a phone to transmit to a watch.

Select connections at the bottom, then sensor at the top. Remember four digit sensor number at the bottom, select replace sensor. Select no readings then stop the sensor. Start new sensor, can't scan, enter four digit sensor number and start. Sensor is inserted. Don't replace the sensor.

As a relatively lean person, I hate wearing it on my arm. It makes no sense to me why it would have less-accurate readings on a fattier area like my lower abdomen. Anyway…mostly happy with my new G7.

Just had my first G7 problem. I had a sensor with no needle and a tiny puncture hole in the top of the sensor. It would not pair to my phone and upon removal I noticed no needle and the puncture. I called Dexcom and they are replacing my sensor and I am returning the problem sensor to them for evaluation.

Quite a few people, including me, have had that problem (I first heard about this problem on a different podcast). The flexible filament came out the top hole instead of going into my skin. Dexcom sent a replacement.

It's so strange that I keep hearing about this. I must be having a completely different experience than most people I've been on the G7 since it came out and sure, I get lost signals from time to time, but I can almost always trace it back to when I force shut down the app or I've left my phone in my car or basement or something.

I'm having issues with my G7 sensors. When I get a low or high alarm, I get it several times in a row. For ex, with a low it'll show 79 beep 70 beep 65 beep. Don't understand why I just don't get the first beep when I start to go low or high. Anybody else have these issues?

I'm not a diabetic, but I assist a man that is. He just recently switched from the G-6 to the G-7 and he is not happy. He gets his sensors from the VA and they sent him 9 boxes. I was with him helping him. We followed the instructions to the letter. We went through 4 sensors before we got one to work. The first one refused to pair. The 2nd one paired, but had a sensor failure about 10 minutes later. The 3rd one also refused to pair. This was 10 days ago. I did finally call Dexcom and they sent replacements. This morning we changed sensors and the very first one refused to pair. I decided to use one of the replacements sent and it paired and an hour was still working. I use the follow app and can see it is still working. My question is what is going on with the signal coming from these G-7 sensors? Of the 9 sensors sent to him, 4 were bad. I think he has 4 left of that 9 unopened. he is planning to make contact and return to the G-6 soon!
@DiabetesStrong11 ай бұрын
It sounds like that whole first batch was bad. I've never had that happen but I wonder if the company that sent them didn't store them correctly or something like that since the ones you got directly from Dexcom seems to work.

@@DiabetesStrong As long as Dexcom replaces the sensors the guy is OK. I did speak to him this afternoon. He is 100% planning to go back to the G-6. To be honest, just based on what I have seen I am not impressed with the G-7.

Switching from the G6 to the G7 it has been incredibly frustrating. They usually cut out days before they should, the worst part is the signal loss. NO! NO! NO! Signal loss is NOT A THING OF THE PAST with the Tandem X2! As a long-term Dexcom user for over 10 years, I say that Dexcom must fix this issue ASAP. I use my Dexcom G7 with a Tandem X 2 insulin pump. I am into my third G7 sensor . [Yes I am using the upgraded G7s.] Both devices are attached to my body. They are never more than 30 inches apart. Yet, the signal between my Dexcom and pump gets lost FREQUENTLY. This often happens when I walk outdoors. But it also happens when I sit at my desk. The G7 is also prone to falling off.
@gotaigo2 ай бұрын
Try lining up in a straight line between x2 and Dexcom; like how we get radio signals; those radio towers have to be lined up in a straight line; that’s why radio transmissions can’t go through mountains, hence very tall towers that communicate with another tower in a straight line. Place the Dexcom directly above or below in a straight line with that of the pump.
@Tiki100252 ай бұрын

The Dexcom G6 is hundreds of times more accurate than any Medtronic CGMS. I will very happily continue to use the old Dexcom G6 with my Tandem pump until after Dexcom figures out its mess with the new G7 CGMS. Tandem pump is also much better than Medtronic pump. Tandem pump actually keeps your blood sugars under control. Unlike Medtronic pump.
@bytehead9044 ай бұрын
Current G7 user, previous Medtronics user. Changed to Medicare, and I don't qualify for the Medtronics pump any more. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I've heard so many things about what the new version is supposed to be. You're saying if the LBL is underlined. I've also heard that it's STILL a matter of looking at the end REV to figure it out, even if it is underlined. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I mean, really. this is plain stupidity at this point. Why does it seem to be so confusing, and why am I hearing different things? As to loss of signal, I just restart my phone. It's an Android. And since all of mine recently have been underlined (if that is indeed true for ALL LBL underlined boxes), I'm still losing signal way too often. The Medtronics pump was always on me, so it never got far enough to loose connectivity, although I would take the pump off for showers (pretty much about only one thing to clip the pump on to when naked, and I wasn't about to even try to do that..., although a plastic hanger hanging off the hand rail might have worked, now that I think about it!). It still was sitting on the bathroom counter, close enough. But I've lost signal even when I know I've had my phone next to me all the time, which is why I question about the LBL being underlined. The arm/stomach thing is... well, I'd be repeating myself. I use my stomach. Trying to use my bicep is a problem, because it's way too flabby (I've lost too much muscle mass, and the arms were flabby before I really started losing my muscle mass, just more so now...), because the skin will fold back, it will not adhere 100%, and then it's just a matter for the sensor to fail or fall out. I never have that problem when it's on my stomach. With the Medtronic, I could use my thighs as well. I saw one guy where his G6 on his calf, which I thought was interesting. Florida, and everybody where's shorts...
