Strips of beef heart makes excellent bait for fishing in the sea. I am not surprised that you use it as a high protein food for your fish but I have never thought about feeding it to my goldfish!

I would have rinsed off before hand. They cant do anything with the blood as you said it can fowl the water. Good idea though. Fresh water proteins are better then land based protein but costly. Its a joy to see all your fish. Thank you for sharing.

Alternant food recipe , Dexter first if you don't want me to do stuff like this please Sir let me know! I know a lot of my fellow Dexterians are in places where beef heart may be hard to come by like in the States or may be Hindu where beef heart isn't something you can touch. You can also make a really good high protein home made food out of some pretty simple easy to come by ingredients. 1 part duck weed ,1 part legume flour , 1 part rice flour or wheat flour , a pinch of turmeric ,"just enough to color it's an immune system booster," add enough water and egg white to make slightly wet,"enough to kneed out the dough it doesn't need to be perfect just enough to work the material." Layer on a cookie sheet or other flat surface and bake in oven on low heat until dry. "If you live someplace tropical or dry you could sun dry as well just try to keep the flies out." The duck weed is an excellent source of protein & fiber and is very easy to grow, "so easy to grow that I'd discourage you from growing it in anything but a dedicated tank as you'll never be rid of it." You can also feed it whole & raw to larger goldfish and koi it's still an excellent source of protein and fiber helps to prevent bloat ,"constipation" in fish. The legume flour ,"you can use any legume as far as in know pea, soy, chick pea etc. ,"also an excellent source of proteins & amino acids that aren't avail in the duckweed." The flour is really just to help hold it all together and to provide some carbohydrates the turmeric is an excellent immune system booster and gives a little color. The egg is to help hold it all together and provides extra proteins. Keep dry and it lasts for some time it will foul your water but not as bad as meat or even other live meaty foods. Ounce per ounce duckweed actually has more protein than red meat feed sparingly especially if you're feeding a tank like I am vs. an outdoor pond/tub set up. In other words not more than your fish can eat in about five minutes if they are finished in a minute or two feed a little more it's much easier to give extra food than an emergency water change. Also this is an idea food for feeding cultured live foods it provides what daphnia, rotifers, mosquito larva need & it will allow you to feed gut loaded live foods to your fish. It's easier to maintain than green water cultures and it provides a smaller chance at a culture crash than trying to feed activated yeast or harvested green water.

I had always known beef heart being used for livebearers, Cichlids and some of the big catfish, but never thought that Goldfish and Koi also relish it. They all look great and their appetites are very healthy. Thanks for sharing. Tell Berto I said hello, and to start breeding and raising his fish, too.

Consider using a mesh bag for feeding? Fill the bag and fish can suck small amounts out. Less chance to leave lost meat to spoil. Also less chance for choking. Just a thought you might wish to try.

I consider beef heart to be something like feeding fish Tubifex worms. Just make sure you change water regularly as the BH will tint the water and you might notice give the tank water a beef heart smell. Been using it for decades.

Dexter beef heart should be cooked (boiled), all fat and connecting tissues cut out of it and then cut or grated to a size the fish can eat. Feeding raw will coat the water surface with a layer of fat and the blood will rapidly foul the water. A very good food for fish if prepared correctly, but should be alternated with other food.

What about making pellets..using this...what is your opinion.
@philashton75785 жыл бұрын
@@ullianove151, it makes no difference whether it is for breeders or the home aquarium. Raw beef heart, with the fat, blood and connecting tissues still attached, will foul an aquarium or pond and coat the surface of the water with a fatty, oily film. very quickly. Try it in one of your own aquaria if you disagree. I think it would be extremely difficult to make the beef heart into pellets but cooking firms it up and it can then be easily grated into suitable sizes for the fish you are feeding it to. It makes a good fish food very easily. The fishes meals should be varied, though, and it should not be fed as an exclusive fish food.

I feed my fish Hearts and livers from all of these animals! It's a great way to use as much of the animal as possible! Great for the fish!

Been feeding beef (or Lamb) heart to my fish for over 40 years.., every now and again I get some uninformed idiot telling me it's no good for the fish.., try telling my fish that. I have raised 1000's of fry on beef heart from Siamese fighters to Pleco's.., they all love it. Just trim the fat and sinuses.., grind it fine (Blender is good) place into small plastic bags, flatten it out to about 3mm thick and freeze.., then you can pull out what you need each day.

I used to feed grated frozen worms. I would freeze the worms in a thin "sheet" by pressing the worms with a weight and placing the container in the freezer. Then, shred the frozen "sheet" of frozen worms using a stainless steel "cheese grater". Shred as needed and return to the freezer. The finely shredded particles thaw as soon as they hit the water. All of my fish loved this food. (I pressed the worms into about a 1 inch thickness.)
