I just sold 6 of these through our city’s online auction from our golf course. They all ran and operated just fine - 4000-5000 hrs on each one. They all went for $2000-3000 each! Amazing. Sold 2 pallets of brand new Jacobsen reels and parts too. You’re about a month late with this video, man. Bummer.

I made the mistake of starting an old cat on the diesel in the tank lately. Smelt like varnish. She fired right but on it, just ran her for a little while. Plan was to drain and flush the tank. Decided to fire it up once more for a listen before I left, ended up with a fuel system full of a dirty diesel/water mix. Never again, had to push a load of clean fuel through the system from a 20l container. Eventually got the gunge out and got her fired back up. It was sat no more than 5 years. Never again!!

I just bought a Ransoms motor 350D reel mower from my local golf course had went by it off and on for 3 weeks and could never manage to stop and look at it but was almost certain it said 400.00 on the sign finally stopped and looked sure enough 400 and everything works has a 40 hp 4cyl Kubota cruses about 22-25 mph (pretty sketchy) on the road i obviously had to buy it. I have no idea what i'm going to do with it thinking about a custom 4x4 buggy using narrowed Chevy k10 axles driven by the hydro drives would use 2 fronts so i could have 4 wheel steering but who knows

I bought one of those a few years ago, thinking I could use the engine in something like a Bobcat. Never got around to doing anything with it and sold it for more than I paid. I found the linkage for the hydrostatic control was sketchy, the thing would just start moving without touching the pedal.

Those three cylinder Kubota engines are very common on bucket trucks, usually the same fuel as the truck, to operate the hydraulics without running the truck engine. I worked on a lot of them in the gasoline version. Not a hot-rod mill to be sure, but interesting engines, probably a workhorse for small tractor and lawn applications.

We used to have a Jacobsen 5 gang reel mower here. Mechanical gear boxes, not hydraulic. You can't let the weeds grow too tall when it's dry though. The reels lay the tall weeds down and don't cut them. They pop right back up behind you :( and then you need the regular (narrow) mower to clean up. Still, it was a fun machine (when we weren't rebuilding the gear boxes)

Reels work fairly well on StAugustineGrass if you buy a front-reel unit with height guide wheels but if you run over the grass with front wheels first it looks like crap. StAugustine actually *loves* being cut by a reel, it can be kinda stringy and most places its used you get a lot of blown sand wearing the regular blades round so you get a "pulled pork" end on the grass blades but a reel won't suck sand.

I received my 1st Craftsman tool set with the metal tool box in 1974..I stayed with Craftsman through the years..every Christmas all I wanted was tools I didn't already have..one year I even got a full Tri stack tool chest..(she got a emerald ring) now the sears store is gone..Lowes and Ace hardware have a crap selection..now Craftsman is made in china and like you pointed out the quality is sketchy..then the other day I was using my 180 piece portable kit and for like the 101th time I bumped it and all the sockets went flying all over the place while I was under my motor home.. I started looking for a replacement and saw the Craftsman tool kits commanding the higher prices..no way I thought to myself..not for cheap Chinese junk..so I continued my search which led me to the "Kobalt 439-Piece Mechanic's Tool Set" Item #1616117 Model #81334 for $189.99 and it came in its own tool chest and everything snaps into place..made in America..check..lifetime free replacement..check..exceeds ASME specifications..check..farewell Craftsman..we had a good run..

Just strip off the EGR cooler and switch out the stock up-pipes with BD up-pipes when you do the delete or they'll eventually break from the vibration and you'll have an annoying exhaust leak.

Look at the spark plugs, they screw into the bottom of the head and fill with carbon. Always had a spare set that I would swap out and clean for the next time. Hated all of the geny sets from that era, 1.5, 3, 5 and 10KW, all very loud. Best one was a .5KW 2 stroke that DND purchased early '80's. If you knew how to use a small 2 Stroke, they were golden.

Not sure how serious you were on using this machine to mow your grass short after it has grown long, but reel mowers don't handle long grass well. They're really meant for taking small bits off of low grass very regularly. They're also a lot more work to maintain then a regular mower. The reel to bedknife distance needs to be checked regularly, the reel and bedknife need sharpening from time to time, it's just a pain. If you're not going for a golf-course-like lawn, don't use a reel mower, it's not worth it. If you want to reduce how often you need to mow, I'd suggest a robot mower, or just not mowing for a long time and then mow with a brush hog once in a while.

You sure work on a lot of lawnmowers probably about a month and a half growing season. Down here in Texas, I’ll start mowing my yard the end of February and mow it all the way until around the middle of December. My yard is about 5 acres, so a fast 72 inch cut is about the minimum you can use here. Bad boy outlaw XP with a 38 horse efi briggs

The best mower ever made for a golf course i spent most of my childhood and teenage years using and riding on one of these 😂 Take those reels off and sharpen the bed knife and it will cut like butter plus you can set the height of it as well to better cut the grass

People routinely misadjust the swashplate control linkage biasing them in the forward direction to pick up ground speed instead of fixing them properly. No or weak reverse can be a result. Otherwise bushings or ports in the hydrostatic trans could be bad/blocked.

Does it have 23x13-12 front tires? There was some Jacobsen commercial mowers in the 90’s that had that size tires which are no longer available.
