Bought a ZD1211 off a buddy a few years ago for a steal. Was at the 800hr mark and needed that service and a set of tires. Been super happy with it. I maintain a 320 acre property with about 70 of it needing mowed each week (4 days mowing, 1 day trimming). My "fast" mower was my Dixie Chopper 72" but she's down for a oil leak in the case. Can't beat the Kubota for what I'm doing. Def would like that air-ride seat!

Im a landscape business owner and the price of these mowers and equipment are getting crazy. Im seeing some over $30k now. The amount that has to be charged to the customer to pay for the mower and pay yourself is substantially going up. There has to be a stopping point somewhere. I was at my local dealer last tuesday and they have a new mower thats $45,000. My newest mower i bought last year has increased $1,800 above what i paid last year.

My sister and I jointly bought a ZD21 in 2004. We traded it in on a ZD1211 3 years ago. The 1211 is a huge improvement over the ZD21. Much easier to maintain. I'm glad we didn't buy the ZD15 version - sounds like that engine was a PITA. I'll be in the Carlisle store tomorrow (where I bought the 1211) to see how much that air ride seat costs. I'm 81 years old and mow 3 acres. My 79 year old sister and I share the mower. She mows 2.5 acres with it, so does my nephew. I think I'd love that seat. Might have to drive to Mount Joy to sit on one to convince my partners in the mower.

It has been a wonderful mower with no issues at all. It’s the first mower I have owned with no problems. I wouldn’t get rid of it for anything and I plan on passing it down to my son. @@rswart14 Thanks for asking!! If yours does not have them, make sure you have the rear wheel shields that will help keep the grass from kicking up in your mesh to the engine and then into the radiator… I ordered them on Messick’s by looking up the parts. There was zero information anywhere. I saw someone with them with my same setup and was blown away mine was missing them. With a blower, I’m blowing out my radiator twice a cut. Keep your eye on the temp gauge!! I cut my grass on 3.5 and it strips very nice, very tall grass will clump a little. The rubber flaps on the deck are worthless, thin and over priced. I purchased cheap semi truck mud flaps and cut it down and got longer bolts for them. I use gator blades, I was using the standard recommended blades but switched with no regrets. I grease everything every cut with Kubota’s Polyurea. This is my second season without any issues. I have just under 700 hours on it. I replace the wheels on the deck yearly. Hope this helps!!

Not really. While I'll agree that Kubota is a bit like Apple in that the resale value tends to be higher, it really has nothing to do with Kubota and was not unique. It was the pandemic nonsense and rising prices. Case in point, pre-pandemic I got a Honda CRV with 9,000 miles on it in early 2018. By 2021, I had 40,000 miles on it and was getting solicited by my dealer to trade it in because they were short on vehicles. For shits and giggles I took it in to see the trade in value. Basically they were going to offer close to what I paid for it except for the sales tax mount. I kept it because it made sense and I needed a vehicle but to have a vehicle for 4 years and put 30,000 miles on it for essentially the cost of sales tax only...!!! That's the crazy stuff that was happening. Keep in mind 2 liters of soda when from $1.50 to $3.99. A case of 60 eggs went from &.48 to I shit you not almost $30. WILD!!! I seriously hope the price of everything crashes (and it most likely will at some point) and then everything everywhere has a surplus again. Buyers' market!

My biggest complaint of those Kubota diesel motors, ZTRs/compact tractors/UTVs is I have not met one that would not constantly overheat. I personally had one that blew up the motor due to constant overheating issues, had another friend scalded when the radiator blew up in his ZTR, and ran another compact tractor that I couldn't keep cool when I mowed with it. Didn't matter how much you cleaned the radiators, washed them out, blew them out, they just did not have enough capacity to keep them cool under heavy constant load in 90 degree plus heat. Very reluctant to go back to a diesel mower without having some proof that these newer ones will cool better than the last generation machines.

Even the older z d 28 s had over heat alarms, and had to wait for the dang thing to cool down, the cooling system is not adequate enough at least on the older units, had and have bx tractors and have a l 39 back hoe no problem s with over heating , in my experience a air cooled “ z “ is the way to go, the “ kiss “ principle applies, also hydro wheel motor s not a transmission , it’s easier to slap on a new motor than replace or rebuild a trans and dam cheaper! In these 14 years the ONLY thing I have replaced is the battery three times and one set of new blades. I change the oil and filters EVERY year and change Hydraulic oil and filters at recommended intervals and of course lube often. I love my Kubota Mowers and two tractors..... Bx2360 and B3350 with cab. BUT, I think Kubota is trying to become the new John Deere with UNREASONABLY prices. The basic technology has not changed that much. I bought a ZD1211 brand new in 2017 for $14,7000 that I use to mow 10 acres weekly on my farm. Never understood how Kubota can justify now charging $21,000 for the 1211 and NOT install the same air ride seat that the 1611 has! I think someone willing to drop 21k on a machine like this has paid more than enough to get the air ride seats. Not to mention 1211's are the most popular Kubota diesels for farmers like myself, I don't know anyone with a 1611 and the 1011 and 1021 is too small and price difference doesn't justify them over the 1211 for only $1,800 more! DEF/REGEN really turn farmers off, we hate that crap and will avoid it at all cost! I know lots of farmers who won't even buy new tractors, they look for 20 year old tractors without all the crap on them that cost them a fortune and slows them down from getting work done. Kubota needs to swallow their pride on the 1211's and give us our monies worth with the Air ride seats! Ridiculous!!!

Fuel consumption is going to depend on mower deck size, grass height, type, density, and dryness; mower and rider weight, and finally the terrain you are mowing. Currently use an old Toro zero turn, 72" 20something hp gas toro engine. I do love the machine, it is my first zero turn and it does the job just fine. I've mowed down tall grasses more suited to a brush hog. Pitched it on angles in ditches that would make anyones butt pucker. It has been fantastic on my 3 rough acres and virtually maintenance free. All for a very low price used from marketplace. I would absolutely love to replace it with a diesel. My only complaint about that mower is it absolutely drinks fuel. With just 3 acres I cannot finish a mow on one tank of fuel, and I believe the tank is just about 3.5 gallons? Comparatively, my lx2610 barely sips fuel at nearly the same hp. I've ran it doing dirt work while my wife mows and had to stop on several occasions now to retrieve her the gas can (No fuel gauge). While the fuel tank on the kubota is double the size at 7 gallons I can run it nearly non stop all day without refueling while the zero turn only manages two hours or so. Its quite the expensive little bugger to operate. Diesels are also much quieter. But as Neil stated, the price point is the turn off. Even on the used market a diesel zero turn is 3x the price of a gas model of similar size. Which just isn't justifiable outside of commercial use. I'd love it if they made a more budget friendly one, I'd make the switch immediately.

You said that this may not be the best mower, well I can say I bought the top of the line Honda HR2163HXC with blade brake, hydrostatic transmission, bagger, mulch, side discharge and by many, some would say it isn't the best but everyone's definition of "best" varies. I bought the Honda commercial walk behind because I am already familiar with that kind of mower having owned one that was very much like it from the mid 1980s, specifically from 1985. It, in my opinion is the best built machine of any other in its size class of 21" wide due to the heavy duty clutch brake, shaft driven hydrostatic transaxle and the commercial grade Honda engine, which is a model that Honda still makes to this day since the mid 80s. I also own the model below it, the HRX217HXC, it has a GCV190 engine, similar features to the commercial but it's great for mulching with its "versamow clip director" baffle. Again, is it the best mower? It all depends on who you ask. I wish I could afford a Kubota BX or even the F series tractors but they are out of my price range for the foreseeable future. What do I have in its place? a couple of Cub Cadet Series 2000 tractors and a Walker. They're all over 25 years old but that's what I can afford.

IF Kubota offered the 1611 with an 84" deck, I would consider it. Otherwise it's just a more expensive and slightly higher powered 1211. The 72" ZD1211 is adequately powered for my use.

The capacity to operate for 5,000 hours or longer if serviced correctly is better than some petrol engine equivalent that will struggle to see 1,000 hours. A shaft driven deck is also essential to reduce maintenance costs.

I have the 26hp model from about 12 years ago, the ZD326. It is a tank. I have stalled fewer times than I have fingers. I honestly do not believe there is any better mower regardless of what specs show on paper. The only possible zero turn I have ever seen what a machine that had a suspended operator platform, controls and all. Anything that reduces the strain on wrists would help. One note, I use the mower on a farm. I constantly have to mow vegetation, tall weeds and grass taller than 12". The ground is not normally smooth enough to go more than max speed or I would bounce off the machine. I will have to call the parts dept about the air-ride seat.

I know this is a bit off topic, but We bought a Kubota GR 2120 diesel nearly $2000 cheaper than a deluxe 720 John Deere with a gasoline engine. In my book, that makes the Kubota a much more attractive value than the competition. I have been a Deere guy all my life and still have an older John Deere large gas mower that I am not willing to part with. It stays hooked to a lawn vac. In a head to head comparison between the Deere and the Kubota, the Kubota wins in nearly everything. When it comes to mowing, the Kubota will mow circles around the Deere. That is saying something because the Deere is certainly no slouch. Kubota needs to toot their horn more about their glide steer feature. That is amazing. For those who may disagree with what I am saying, pay close attention when you drive by a John Deere dealer. Then pay attention driving by a Kubota dealer. You will see John Deere products at the Kubota dealership. You will very seldom see Kubota equipment at John Deere.

Cost to benefit ratio comes into play. That's why most professional commercial mowers still use gas. If you can afford it there is no doubt in my mind it's once of the finest mowers on the market. I personally choose to stay with my 25 HP gasser. It sucks fuel like a drunk.

If it is maintained it will last for ever! I paid 6,000+ for mine vs the 2000, for other mowers It has been running great ! If you were young and paid $27,000 and kept it running 25 or years that is not so bad. And Kubota still has parts available. Will the other company even be in business?

Homeowner use it will last 25 years but then again a homeowner buying a mower for $27,000 would hire it done. It want last in a commercial business for 25 years. Over time the cost of repairs and the amount of down time would be to costly. Here we cut 8 - 9 months out of the year.

That thing is a real beast. I'm still not sold on the emissions engines though. It's pathetic that the government saddles us with all that mess. 🤬 I have a ZD26 that has been flawless, but only around 350 hours so far. The fact that it only has 2 belts, and the shaft drive deck and Kubota tranny, without all the external hoses was the big deciding factor to go with Kubota over Ferris. I liked the Ferris suspension, but I still think I made the right choice long-term. Hopefully it'll last the rest of my life. 😎

Actually sort of amazed its only $27k............The Toro Commercial Diesel(With Kubota engine) I have was $20k new when it was last offered years back. Commercial guy I bought it from original bought it because of fuel efficiency but ended up hating it as it constantly would trip the alarm it was close to over heating. I got it dirt cheap. Ended up their mechanic didn't understand electrical systems too well and tried to run the cooling fan off the 12volt circuit for the fuel lift pump when they had mouse issues on the original harness...............It didn't work well and was like having a house dimmer switch on the fan. Put it back the way it was and no more trouble as the fan was running the right speed pulling air through the rad. After having this diesel, I could never go back to a gas job, efficiency is excellent and can fill it out of the farm fuel tank instead of having to keep cans around for a lawn mower.

That's funny because when I brought my zd 1511 in with emissions problems they acted like I was the only person that ever had problems. They just sent me an information packet recently on regeneration procedures. It cost over 2000 for 1 part of the dpf to get fixed. How about a part number for the delete kit? Al that aside this mower is a beast. I'm mowing a 9 acre yard with some steep hills and this mower acts like it's on flat ground.. can't wait to delete it.

For $27k, I sure as hell hope it has a bagger option LOL. Heck I could get a bagger for the 60" mid mount mower for my BX2680...although its extremely expensive, there's an option. Would be interesting to see what grass collection system they do have for this machine though, I would think it would need some sort of blower type setup on it, maybe combined with a clam-shell dump box that you can dump without leaving the seat.
