Not a lift mechanic but I spent many yrs useing just about every make and model out there and I can say with confidence the 2 most reliable ones for me personally we're the Gradalls and JLGs. They were tough and very reliable. Dont get me wrong, they occasionally did break down but it was always an easy and quick fix. A few times even I was able to get it running lol. So i didnt have to call the mechanic. My favorite of the 2 was the Gradalls. Those things are super tough, and they had the smoothest hydralics out of all of them. If you've ever used lifts before you know how important good hydraulics are.

Funny people hear "old lady" and think little old saint. She obviously had no problem taking her workman to court. For all you know, the guy did a great job for her, priced it just above cost of materials, and she still hasn't paid him because he left the machine there. I've seen that a lot. If he doesn't get paid what he's owed, how is he supposed to pay to have it towed? And even then she still might complain and refuse to pay. I deal with people like that more than you'd think, and a lot of them are little old ladies. They will give our there bank account numbers to scammers on the phone who say their son is arrested and needs bail money, but they will bitch and bitch about an honest job you do for them and refuse to pay unless you take them to court. And even then they don't pay -- you can put a lien but what good is that? For many "old people", it's free credit until they die or get removed to the nursing home. Don't be dense. If this woman was a "nice old granny", you'd see her out there bringing him something to drink, etc.

Hi! Most any of those machines that have the low oil/high temp shut down usually have a button on the panel that you will need to push and hold until the engine is running and oil pressure is present. Otherwise the engine will not start! It may have been the black button on the panel. Try it!

Have had the unfortunate pleasure of working on one of those for a friend of mine. Engine is either a 2.5 or 3.0 GM. We never figured out which, but = we used chevy S-10 parts from an early 90’s pickup and worked perfectly. Wiring diagrams were close enough to figure out what we needed to know. Behind the control panel cover in his machine was a phone number for support that was still connected. We talked to a snorkel dealer in California that was very helpful figuring things out. Had lots of trouble with safety/limit switches not allowing all the boom functions to operate. Wish I still had their contact info..... Good luck!

Roll the deck off, hook up your winch, pull it on the deck, roll the deck back onto the truck, secure the load and away you go....... and Bob's your uncle! You definitely don't want to use a small roll off truck, go big or stay home... those bucket lifts are damned heavy.

If it has a throttle body with the injectors in the throttle body (90s style GM v6 v8) check for the temp sensor the ecu pulls reading from. I had a very similar problem with a truck i had years ago in which the sensor went bad and was trying to tell the ECU it was -30degC on a 90degC day. That caused the ECU to fire both injectors at %100 duty cycle, essentially killing the engine off with fuel after several seconds. You may notice a difference if you try to start it at the coldest time of the morning when the air is coolest, that is a symptom at least. Also it is definitely a GM engine, if you can take the info from the engine a GM dealer may be able to pull some information for you. That machine maynot have support, but often enough it is just a generic engine which may have support.

Just FYI, because it makes me feel a little smart is all. you don't have to have the basket controls in the same position, the main panel has priority and overrides the basket's auxiliary panel. But yea looks like it's had a few backyard mechanics under the hood a few times. I can almost guarantee one of the messes is someone disconnecting the "tilt sensor", and "overload sensor" which disables driving and boom controls at the chassis. But the loud alarm is usually why people quickly disable them.

with the aux power is used for emergency decent operation hold on for 30 secs while performing movement , then rest for 2 min for the electrical motor to cool down. and turning that plate around is on the wheel is called freewheeling , and the big red button you are pushing in and out is the emergency stop only , you should turn it off and on from key .

When you mentioned towing the man lift I cringed! Anyone who has ever towed one of these knows just how difficult they are to tow. A man lift needs to be heavy, really heavy. The company I worked for had a JLG man lift. One of my coworkers found out the hard way just how heavy it was. He needed the JLG for some work on light fixtures in our truck shop. So without asking about it he took a one ton truck and started to bring the JLG in from the mine pit. All went well until he started down hill and he touched the brakes. The JLG never slowed down until it got the bottom of the hill. I just shoved that one ton out of its way and jack knifed the truck. The lift finally came to a stop at the bottom of the hill. No damage to the lift and a very small amount of damage to the one ton. But it did considerable damage to the drivers reputation, self confidence and his underwear. That’s why it costs so damn much to rent one of the man lifts.

Nice work and video one time doing a job in Washington D.C. i had to drive. A very slow Scissor lift down Pennsylvaninia Ave in morning rush hour 11 blocks from the United States Capital building lets just say the. Drivers of all the cars weren’t very impressed or happy with the timing i took 4 of my crew. With me in the basket for back up just in case !We were all armed with tool belts. Fully loaded with our tools it was a challenging machine to drive through traffic. As the outside ends of it cantilevered past the turning wheels quite a bit and could easily. Pivot into objects around you luckily i did not hit. Any thing or get a ticket from the police or any authorities the job we wee doing was on the same street that a OSHA office was located and almost daily they would stop by to make sure we were compliant with all our safety gear and procedures although i am OSHA certified. I’m not sure what the laws are for driving that type of a machine on a public street. But my guess. Is we weren’t supposed to be there as the machine did not have any Tags or registration for it as it was a rental anyway that was delevired. Under the cover of darkness

Probably an old United Rentals unit. We had many of these at aerial unit in Portland Oregon and they kept our service mechanics busy. Auxilary power is so you can let yourself down when you run out of fuel or the engine quits otherwise you would be stuck in the air. I would contact your local United Rentals and have a chat with the service manager he may know where to get some obsolete parts for it. I would mount a LPG tank on the side and switch it over to LPG. A lot of times these run better on LPG and that bipasses all the regular fuel system problems.

Like all other companys, they bought the parts from other companys and just did the assembly. They should give it to you for all your work and expertise in getting it running.

Alot of those old engines needed to see response from the alternator, I'd be starting with that burnt wire, also the reason you were going so slow is because your extension is out and has tripped the limit switch

Crazy how there is pretty much an infinite amount of space on the internet to post manuals or schematics for every device that has existed in last 120 years, but relatively few are actually out there. If by chance you do find a link to old stuff, the links are usually dead. Why take the stuff down when it taking so little space on a site? The fact that the company abandoned it, tells me they have too much money to waste.

Use Costco batteries. $100 and a full 5 year warranty. Motomaster $100 battery is only a 3 year pro-rated warranty - only the $200 Eliminator gives a 5 year pro-rated warranty. Say the battery goes bad in year 4 - Costco 100% refund and buy a new one with a fresh 5 year warranty. CT you get (5 years-4)/5 x 200 = 40 towards a new one. Costco is like buying one battery for the rest of your life. This is especially valuable if you are a shop that uses batteries all of the time.

Quick and dirty approach to small engine repair: buy a new carburetor for $20 online. Nine times out of ten the carb is fouled, and it's become cheaper to replace than rebuild. Depending on your level of expertise, you might check for spark first, but the odds are it is sparking and it's just the carb. Oh, and put fresh gas in it.

That fuel pump, since it is a gm 3.0l industrial/marine could use a Carter P5001 around $100-$190 US depending on where you look, but the part number for the fuel pump on that engine claims it is a 0720-016, though searching that number I cannot find anything! From the looks of it the carter should be an easy plug and play! Hopefully you read this, cdn dot partsroom dot com has several manuals for free!
