Honestly these videos have made me respect farmers even more. You have to be a damn good tractor mechanic to be a farmer it seems. Also Kevin is just the epitome of a do-it-yourself farmer who fixes anything and everything on his farm and isn’t afraid to tear apart anything even if he’s never done it before. I admire anybody who’s not afraid to tear something completely apart even though they’ve never done it before. I’m sure not all farmers these days can fix their own stuff like he does.

I know you're kidding, but honestly, as long as it makes sense having two tractors obviously haha, it's really nice having two of the same tractor for this reason regardless of brand. We have 3 sets of the same tractors and this has came in handy many many many times haha. Although, Deere guys don't know how to work on them and just call the dealer anyways right? Haha just kidding

Quick tip for a gasket scraper is to flatten the end of a piece of household plumbing copper pipe, work harden it a bit then put an edge on it. Comes with handle installed unless you are really dumb or tight.... Brilliant for aluminium faces as it can`t "nick" like a steel scraper can = )

I can't name-drop the brand but the 3-minute oven cleaner that comes in the yellow can does a damn good job as a gasket & very hard carbon stripper in place of the stuff you can't get anymore, garbage literally just falls right off metal. I keep 2 or 3 cans of that stuff on hand at all times. Total time saver, great tool to have around. Has a ton of sodium hydroxide in it so wear gloves and a mask so it doesn't gag you out of the shop

According to the MSDS I found, the main ingredients in the CRC Gasket Kleen are acetone, methylpyrrolidin (another type of solvent) and liquefied petroleum gas (propane). You're probably familiar with acetone and it can be found in most hardware stores. The Gasket Kleen looked similar to the foamy oven cleaners. That stickiness might be the advantage it has over straight acetone. I wonder if the gel type furniture strippers would work the same, since acetone and toluene are also the main ingredients in the premium brands.

Man i used to run three-point stop grinders 20 years ago and I would use the large barrel type on my case Tractor , I broke the PTO shaft off inside the tractor twice after that I changed to John Deere, done the same thing. Then about 15 years ago I just went and bought a Vermeer sc60tx that machine today which I purchased new has 5000 and something hours on it other than a few gearboxes and general maintenance it's been pretty trouble Free.

1-methylpyrrolidin-2-one seems to be the active ingredient in gasket remover. It is one of those really aggressive solvents that dissolves a variety of plastics. The CRC version is only about 25% active ingredient, if there was a better version it probably had more.

edit: 24:42 contact cleaner for electric cabinets, the gel type that you're supposed to use with a brush will work just fine for that. 23:52 silicone's good, but only when applied by someone who doesn't think you're supposed to use the whole tube of silicone for a 10x10cm gasket. Rolled on sparingly, just enough to make an uniform layer. In typography they have these hard durometer rubber rollers with a checkered surface (for application of paint), they're perfect for silicone. You get a nice clean coat on all your surfaces, let it flash just a little bit, snug it in place, then after it's cured you tighten it and you're set. Like i said, it's not the item, it's the one using it that's the problem. Usually the same person who buys two tubes of silicone because he thinks he might not have enough for a transmission pan is the same person who thinks home foam is a structural repair, is more likely to weld an old box wrench over the crack in their truck frame and has, at least once, used a wood screw with a rubber washer to plug his leaky fuel tank. In this field of operation, we've all met "this" guy. We know who "he" is and how things are ""ok"" under his eye. Joe Average the " " " mechanic " " ", with his catch phrase "that'll do'er".

You're going to develop nerve damage in the future, and that's a pain that can't be remedied with painkillers or a couple beers. It's agonizing. A good alternative I've found for gasket scraping is carbide scrapers. You have to be careful not to gouge the surface you're scraping, but that cuts through pretty much anything like butter.
