Gretsch's just seem to me to punch way above their weight in general. I am not sure if it's that there isn't as much "brand equity" in a lot of their models as compared to, an import Les Paul or Stratocaster (which I think are great value notwithstanding!), but a $500 Gretsch feels as good to me as a $1,000 guitar from most other manufacturers a lot of the time.

@@DanLeggatt You put that well. I was actually looking at Filter’Tron-equipped guitars when I found a brilliant deal on a guitar-some desperate sod was selling his Gretsch Duo Jet for half what it’s worth, and I fell in love with it. Now, I knew the next sound I needed in my arsenal was a guitar with dual P90s, and like a caricaturish scene in which the sky opens and it descends from the heavens, this guitar was released by Gretsch. Everything I love: beautiful interpretations of the P90 design, proper centre-block semi-hollow, familiar layout, and the exceptional quality I’ve come to expect from Gretsch… I knew my P90 instrument would be a Gretsch as well. Great review; excellent sound reinforcement. Out of curiosity-what amp were you first playing?

I'm pretty excited by these guitars. I like the Gretsch design - especially the lightweight semi-hollow build. But I'm not wild about traditional Gretsch pickups. Only problem - I'm not crazy about these translucent finishes. I hope the blue 'gunmetal' ones with Bigsbys don't turn out to be rare as hens' teeth. I think they should have done them all in a range of solid finishes.

I traded some equipment and small amount of cash and got this beauty and a gig bag. Didn't have a 335 type guitar or P90's in my other 4 guitars or a Gretsch. So looked at 3 in the price range I wanted and I chose this. Came down to this and Epiphone 339, Reverend 390 Jet Stream. Really liked the Jet Stream was used guitar, more money and had a nick on finish. Went New instead and less money. I already have a reverend rocco american model with coil taps and looking tunners.
@peterblum6135 ай бұрын
I am an absolute beginner and got this guitar about 7 months ago as my first guitar. It is hard for me at my stage to differentiate guitars. But I pulled the trigger because I knew that Gretsches are quality, and the guitar was at a steep discount from an already good price. For maximum playability, I got it professionally set up and switched the factory strings (10s) to 9s. I love it. It is beautiful looking as it sits in the room and easy to play. I always want to pick it up. A great bonus is that it also sounds good unplugged, making it easy to practice when the wife snd daughter are in the house. Perhaps my only criticism as I get a little experienced and more discriminating about sound is that I might want my next guitar to have slightly more high-end jangle.

Great video as always. I own 4 gretsch. If you get one I'm sure you won't be sorry. I like the ones I have. I got a electromatic jet and 3 streamliners,2 of which are the smaller semi hollow bodies. One with a bigsby and one without. They both sound great but with a little different tone. Looks like I maybe heading for my fifth. Thanks for the great stuff. Keep up the great videos.
@DanLeggatt3 жыл бұрын
Very cool sounding collection! Tonally do you notice much difference between the Bigsby and hard tail versions?
@spookshilljoe73763 жыл бұрын
Yes there's a difference especially when unplugged. The one without the bigsby is louder and fuller sounding. But when plugged in it's just a slight difference. I think the pickups are different. The bigsby model just says gretsch and the one without says gretsch bt-2s on the pickups. I don't no if they are different but I really like the bigsby . It has more of that gretsch sound. Both are very sweet sounding though.
@DanLeggatt3 жыл бұрын
Nice! Thanks for the info. I’m considering getting hold of a G5655tg to add some Gretsch to the collection. Seems very tradition Gretsch without the body size being too cumbersome.

Please do some playing with some drums in future reviews as sometimes reviewers play too fast to hear the tonal nuances of the guitar, one YT reviewer starts a phrase at around 100 BPM and finishes off nearer 150BPM or higher, but without a beat, I think we all do this sometimes I have a Duojet 1993 57 reissue and I love that crisp tight sound, so I didn't think I would like this with P90's but I was surprised how good it is!
