Well I have one now and it plays like a dream. I play a lot of country music. With some rockabilly and this guitar can do it all.

Your comprehensive demo & review sealed the deal. Just bought this. Same colour. Looks even better in the flesh. Concur re the extreme upper register access to the last two frets vs its baby sibling's (G2655-P90) smaller body, although that heel joint on the '22 is pretty comfortable. OTOH I really like both pickups. Can't fault these Fidelisonics. Just right. Sweet sounding P90s.

I just got this guitar, I needed a semi hollow body and I lik the sound of the p90s . I find the v tail is very comfortable to rest my picking hand on. Loved the intro jam , I was playing along. This is a great guitar, I know I just got it butI know I like it. Sounds really good unplugged too!

Couple of comments on your conclusion after ownership and playing my G2622-P90 for a week. None of this owner pride. One I agree with, kinda', two I don't. Upper register reach. Technically agree. You're correct. Pragmatically, it's moot for most. Pickguard. I haven't found it an obstruction issue *for me* although I've been looking for it since you mentioned it. Neck pickup. I LOVE it, in fact all three pickup positions. Maybe individual tonal preference, but yours did sound a little different from mine at times. Studio 10 6L6 amp Celestion Seventy-80 speaker? -or EQ config maybe? Everything else you said is spot on. Incredible value guitar, I love this as much as my Gretsch Electromatics and other guitars costing three times as much.
@LeighFugeGuitar Жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree with your comment on the fret access, you don't really buy this guitar to play the 22nd fret... BUT... if you did need that fret, you have to work a little harder for it haha. The pickguard was only an issue for me because of my playing style, that's why I said if you dig in a lot it might cause an issue but I suspect for most it wouldn't. I'd never seen a guitar with a pickguard set so high and close to the strings before and that got me thinking about the issues that could cause someone. Tonally, that's just subjective, what amp are you running it through? Each player has something they like to hear. and I didn't hear it in this neck pickup, but overall it was a great guitar! Gretsch really do make some incredible stuff for not a lot of money. They can easily outplay a lot of way more expensive guitars, as you rightly said.

I definitely like how they are modeled to look like old staple p90s. I'm sure they sound nothing like them but still pretty cool.
@LeighFugeGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely man, the look is really cool. I'm not sure if it's just the guitars overall tone, but to my ears, they are slightly darker than other P90s on other guitars I have... but it could just be that the guitar is slightly darker in general.

I have exactly the same but G2622T with the bigsby and exact same color Brownstones wich in real is not so red as we see in your video, it become more red in photo and video. It's a much better model with the bigsby and a smaler body as the G2655 this G2622T have really enough bass no need more one. It got really good resonance and sound. Nice video😉👍

They actually do have a jr version just not with a single p90 just so you know. I just traded in a MIM tele and picked one of these up and it was love at first strum. My least favorite part are the knobs gonna change them out for sure
@LeighFugeGuitar3 жыл бұрын
A single P90 would be fun on this kinda guitar. I love P90S. Yeah, the knobs didn't feel great to me either. I own a Gretsch that's in the same series as this (But a few years older) and they used to come stock with the metal knobs which are much better. I'm not a fan of the plastics.

Such an informative review... i'm torn bw this and the Epiphone ES 335 ..Which one would you recommend ?? Also a comparo please ?
@LeighFugeGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Hey man, Thanks for the comment and for checking out the video. I haven't played an Epiphone 335 in a long time, I recall them being decent, and I love Epiphones... I've always loved Epiphone, but their more recent models I feel aren't as good as stuff they were putting out 10-15 years ago. If it was based solely on the brand new ones, I'd pick Gretsch. Gretsch are super consistent and out the box they're already ready to go. I won't be able to do a comparison on the two unfortunately. Epiphone don't work with any KZbinrs so I won't be able to obtain one for a video, and this Gretsch is also going back to Gretsch this week as I only have it on loan so I won't have it long enough to make a video.

@@LeighFugeGuitar thank you so much for taking out time to respond ❤ I've heard the same from many others about the quality of new Epiphone guitars.. I love the look of the ES 335 , drawn to it! But I also love the Gretsch models..thanks for your honest suggestion :)

Thanks for the great video. I would like to know how noisy the pickups are clean, and, is the middle position hum-canceling? Thanks
@LeighFugeGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Hey Bob, Thanks for checking it out, glad you enjoyed the video. I don't recall it having any noise issues. They are P90s so obviously they'll give a small amount of noise in the single positions, but I'm pretty sure it was hum cancelling in the middle, I don't recall hearing any noise issues from it when I had it here but it was quite a while ago.

Hey there, are the p-90 pickups supposed to be at different slight angles and not parallel with strings ? Already tried adjusting the screws
@LeighFugeGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Hey, great question. I think the ones on this model were flat when it was here. You could just adjust the screws to level them out. If they are angled, it will emphasize one side of the pickup more than the other because its closer to the strings. So some strings will sound brighter than others.
@toneydavis98023 жыл бұрын
I had this guitar with the BT1s. The P90 is weak in this guitar. I was looking for a low cost rocker with BT2s or P90. I think the G2210 is coming home with me.
@LeighFugeGuitar3 жыл бұрын
I like the Broadtron pickups, they're a great pickup. I must admit, I do love a P90. To my ears a Broadtron is like a beefy P90 without going into full Humbucker territory. The G2210 is an awesome guitar. I did a video on it last year when it came out and it blew my mind. I honestly couldn't believe how low the price was!!
@b.j.thomas32643 жыл бұрын
@@LeighFugeGuitar I'm strongly considering the 2210 w/p90. Have you done a review of it? Thanks! I absolutely love the 2262 in your review but I have a 2210 budget! also, forgive me if I missed it but what was your take on the tuners on the guitar in your review? So many guitars seem to have poor tuners and tuning issues as a #1 problem in their reviews. Thanks again!
@garrynathan84783 жыл бұрын
I am ignorant, I have not tried out this guitar yet, but the P90s are vintage specs, outputs, around the 7 mark I believe. They look like they can be adjusted by the 2 centre screws, like a regular soapbar ? The covers look metal as opposed to plastic which is supposed to affect the pickup ? My main concern is however, how distanced the bridge pickup is distanced from the bridge ? This I imagine will certainly cause a drop in top end.
@garrynathan84783 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for the demonstration/ video. At last I thought Gretch had made my ideal guitar ? Like a 330/ Casino but with a centre block, and a Bigsby and very reasonably priced ? I love P90s my only concern is if there is enough treble, top end ? The bridge pickup looks a good inch away from the bridge and may cause the guitar to loose top end ? Anyways I shall endeavour to a guitar shop to test one out, again many thanks for the video Leigh.
@LeighFugeGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Hey Garry, thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment. If you found that the guitar didn't have enough top end, and there was room, you could easily move the pickups closer to the strings. They adjust like humbuckers on this guitar, so you could easily tweak that with a screwdriver. Or, crank the top end on the amp. The guitar has plenty of brightness though, it's very sparkly when pushed. I think you'll hear that when you get to try one out!
@dancotterman126710 ай бұрын
I think he meant the pickup was away from the bridge not the strings. That can’t be adjusted. But maybe you don’t need it.

Dude, you sure needed to 'warm-up', because the quality of your playing in terms of accuracy of the bending and correct timing greatly increased as the video went on. At the beginning, all I could do was 'tolerate' your playing, later it was something I could dig. Others did a much better job of defining just what the unique sound of that guitar is, and how Gretsch achieves it, but did not play as well as you eventually were able to put together.
@LeighFugeGuitar6 ай бұрын
I don’t like to give too much away too soon. I’ll settle for tolerable.
