And this is why I subscribed. You're the first reactor to get the whole "forbidden love" aspect of this. Korean culture is not Gay friendly, and I've said that Kpop, and groups like (G)idle, are challenging that, maybe getting to the younger generations. The red stuff pouring on her face, I've always taken that as a representation of this "forbidden passion", since it's not the dark reds in the rest of the video, but who knows?

I think this song is really important for Soyeon's personal beliefs and her christianity. As you all nevies know Soyeon is christian together with Soojin. And i mean, even here there are literally crosses everywhere at the end, brought up by the dancers.The white apple, that means yes, you can bite the apple of knowledge and feel all you want cause if you feel pure with it, it's not a sin (with the right restraints obviously,lol, like..."do not kill"). And with "THAT is not a sin", THAT could mean anything. Soyeon said that the "HER" could be anything. Anything you feel pure but at the same time wrong about.The point of the song is "whatever people are saying, love what you want, cause if it makes you feel happy then that's not a sin for God". That's why she's praying to god in the middle of the song and in the chorus/title...it's a prayer in which she says that she knows it's not a sin since she's feeling so tempted to something she feels good and Pure with. And god could never punish her for pureness, literally. The title itself suggest she's talking to God

I love how when people asked Soyeon who was that "Her" she didn't give an explanation, she said people can imagine whatever they want; and I was kinda shocked when I heard this song for the first time because knowing how strict Korea's culture is, it was kinda weird hearing of a "relationship" that isn't about a man and a woman, but then listening to TOMBOY and Nxde just made me realise how amazing (G)I-DLE actually is. They don't care people's thoughts, if they want to say something they just say it. When i fell in love with music I wanted the songs with deep meanings and storylines, like (g)i-dle, dreamcatcher, mamamoo's, not the ones about killing everybody boom I'm rich (no offence to blackpink)

This absolute masterpiece of a song is even more impressive when you consider the fact that after Lion, Soyeon's plan was for (G)I-DLE to have a comeback with Hwaa but Cube didn't approve of it so Soyeon had to go and quickly write and produce a plan B; this was her plan B... the girl works in mysterious ways, I tell ya 😳😳

This song is honestly phenomenal. Your interpretation matches my own pretty well so I'm happy, because you are always so insightful. Yeah I love the strong LGBT vibe, especially given the market this was made for being what it is. For me it's all about temptation, passion, and self acceptance. If you are willing to give in to the temptation of a love that is still seen as taboo in many cultures, choosing to pay the price of judgement so that you can allow yourself your own happiness.

The closest I can get to Soyeon in English is "Sow - yawn". :) I may have said this before, but you are amazingly insightful. You understood so much from the first watch that it took me many, many times to grasp. Just several things for context that you might not know: They stated that Soojin represents a demon that is trying to corrupt the others. Some stay pure, some resist better, some embrace the "sin". Their albums are themed, and this one is named "I Trust", where Soyeon hopes that everyone trusts themselves first. There is an English version of the song. It is much more explicit, but since it is written by a translator and not Soyeon directly, I can't be sure how closely it matches her intentions. You said that the title is used in two contexts: as a cry for help, and as a cry of a... different nature. I will add a third: it is what pretty much everyone (including me) says when they see the drop for the first time. Soyeon's writing and composition skills are on a next level. But my favourite performance of theirs is Put It Straight (Nightmare version) on Queendom. She took a sad ballad B-side, and completely rearranged it with horror, madness and rage. Best stage of anything I have ever seen.
@life81482 жыл бұрын
You can pronounce Soyeon's name as "So-" (like how you say 'So' in Soy sauce) and "Yon". Most English speakers pronounce it as "Sow-Yeown" or "Soy-on" but the simplest way to say it is "So-Yon". Bc Hangul it's "소" "So" and "연" "Yeon". Koreans pronounce "eo" as "o" (like the "o" in "hot" in British accent) not "eyo/eyow". I hope this helps
@DGReacts2 жыл бұрын

I like your interpretation of the song! Most fans interpret it in this same "forbidden love" way, but the other meaning to this song is accepting your other self, even if that other self is not as pure or innocent or clean as you'd like to be. Sort of like accepting the "evil" side of yourself, because in that way you're more whole, you're more complete, and you're more you. The title of this EP is "I Trust" and this song is sort of saying "I trust myself, all parts of myself, even the parts I don't exactly like."
@DGReacts2 жыл бұрын
Yeah absolutely, much like we talked about, accepting yourself as a sinner, is accepting your true or other self, like you say. Just because it's a sin in someone else's eyes, doesn't make it an actual sin, therefore it's just accepting yourself regardless of what others may say :)

If you only take into account the lyrics of the song, it's very easy to believe that the song is about a relationship between two women! However the interpretation must be done with both the video (which is extremely full of symbolism) and the lyrics! The video is just about temptation and about corrupting the divine! Note: They only changed the male to the female! Minnie - At the beginning of the song it shows the first angel being corrupted, touching the transparent gel means purity and the change in color to red represents sin! So much so that at the end of the video it shows her with black hands! Sooyon - The one with short hair. First corrupted angel! Yuki - The Angel who guards the heavenly gates, has a little glimmer of temptation (Demon) and lets his guard down! Meyeon - God on his throne, in the second verse shows the fall of God due to the failure of the one who guarded the heavenly gates! Soojin - Demon (Temptation) the purple satin ribbons represent chains where the entity was trapped and ends up coming loose... Note, the weather in the celestial realm changes to dark and purple, the background shows servants dressed in black as if they were consecrating the ascension of their God, Demon the attention. Shurua - Rise of a New God and His Fall! Part where she appears in a big white dress. Final - All the angels in limbo carrying their crosses for their sins! Well, explaining in a shorter way!

It could represent not a physical death, but her old self death, and building a new personality instead. It looks like she finally accepts herself as a "sinner", kills this unhappy personality and resurrects as a "fallen angel" to embrace her true self.

This song is so special. LGBT is forbidden in Korea still, being openly same sex attracted is totally taboo and career ruining still in Korea so even talking about it in a song and giving that representation to people who feel that way like Soyeon did has my utmost respect. A lot of people tried to deny it was about lgbt, but it is imho extremely, extremely clear. Soyeon said it is about self love and trust (she would never be allowed to explicitly say unfortunately) and I mean, you have to love and trust your instincts and what you want to overcome prejudice of bigots, culture and religion so I see how that applies. I agree with your interpretation, it has another entire layer too: I see the white room as the place between heaven and hell, purgatory. Minnie is being dragging there for her "sin" at the start waiting to be judged and ends up in hell (the red mud scenes) at the end. Strong suicide imagery with her and as you said, she has guilt and it gets to her unlike Soyeon. Soyeon is there at first too, dancing around clearly not worrying about the consequences of hell to come. Yuqi I believe is an untainted Angel at first walking through the corridors of heaven (everything is golden) After she sees Miyeon (who may represent and angel or God imho up on her pedestal) she falls for her, spills the goblet of wine which you see going down to "hell" for the first chorus. Yuqi has now been tainted by the sin of falling for a woman. Miyeon casts her arm out a bit later and we see Yuqi falling down presumably to hell. Miyeon has cast her out of heaven. We later see Yuqi with dark devil- like make up showing us she has been corrupted. Soojin is the main temptress (she said in a behind the scenes video that she was the devil there to seduce the girls also you see a frame of her holding the apple of temptation) and we see her luring Shuhua who may possibly be an angel as she is all in white on the pedestal when we see her. I see Minnie as a representation of someone that was tortured by her attraction and sadly pays homage to those who do take their own lives, I see Soyeon as someone that is fine with it being considered a sin as the love is too great, she has to be herself no matter what anyone says or the consequences. Some more interesting imagery is at the end when they are all in black dancing on the pedestals with people holding up what seems to be crosses beneath them. To me this may be saying that even though they in hell, they are free of all the prejudice and bigotry beneath them. To further drive it home, Soojin has rainbow lights flashing during her scenes. The intention is very clear. There was also a teaser clip before the song released posted with Minnie directly addressing God saying she rejects God's salvation so she can be out of her prison and free. She is free of the shackles of religion holding her back (which was Soyeon's arc in the video) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYWQoYSfjNmSd5I This is genuinely the deepest and most interesting kpop song i've ever heard and the fact that it was in Soyeon's mind is mind blowing. I don't know what will ever top this to be honest.

@@judithkim4050 If we relate the lie = white and black = truth album version back to the video - They were living a lie in heaven (or if they were to enter heaven after judgement like Minnie) and even though Soyeon, Minnie and Yuqi end up in hell it's because they have to be true to themselves and is still a better prospect than being chained and imprisoned by the judgement of God/religion/bigots. They are all dancing free on the podiums at the end with judgemental people below. As Minnie says in the teaser here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYWQoYSfjNmSd5I "Oh god I was a prisoner of my reason, I wanted to set me free through salvation. No, God, there's no need for divine love anymore because i'm no longer a prisoner" and in the lyrics "if this is a sin i'll pay the piper"

I'm so happy that you did this and was just as impressed with it as I was after watching it the first time (and still am, no matter how often I watch it). Even if you scrap all of the lyrics and the music, the video itself is a masterpiece! Add on all the deep lyrics and that sick drop into the chorus..it's just WOW. I really like that it's open to interpretation on what the song means. Many think as you and I do, that it's speaking of forbidden love and "sin". I just love that it's in a KPop song - an area of the world where it's still very taboo to tackle such things, but these girls did it was such beauty and angst. I'd say the only thing that you missed, that I've noticed is going into that 2nd chorus Soojin's purple ties/ropes break free and it's kind of like her just saying F It, I am who I am and if it's a sin, let it be sin. (in my view at least). Thank you again for doing this reaction!!

20:47 could you stop saying "according to that culture and religion" :") she meant it globally. Even because i know what you're reffering to and that's not it boy; she's christian, she has literally said it and wears crosses everywhere she goes. The point of the song is "whatever people are saying, believe in what you want, cause if it makes you feel good then that's not a sin". That's why she's praying to god in the middle of the song and in the chorus...it's a prayer in which she says that she knows it's not a sin since she's feeling so tempted to something she feels good and pure with. And god could never punish her for pureness

@meropemerope60962 жыл бұрын
yeah and the fact that he continued to say "according to that culture and religion". Boy... if you're a nevie you know Soyeon and Soojin are christians. I think when she made the concept she meant it globally with as an universal sin. In no culture being in a gay couple was accepted publicily.

I mean, there are literally crosses everywhere at the end, brought up by the dancers. He didn’t notice the white apple, that means yes, you can bite the apple of knowledge (with the right restraints obviously,lol ) and feel all you want cause if you feel pure with it, it's not a sin.

Soojin is the devil…the other girls are angels and on the second verse Yugi’s makeup shows her corruption. At the end. U have to watch closely. Shushua turns into soyeon. So is there a connect between soojin and soyeon. ???? If u watch the making of oh my god it is explained by soyeon. And not ur fabrication. And. The message is strong but soyeon left the interpretation open to an addiction. The forbidden fruit. Did u see the white apple?
@ariathefirst64952 жыл бұрын
Shuhua represents Minnie's innocence while Soyeon is the the version of Minnie who gave in to her tempations which is what soojin represents.
