I was eating all these breads sourdough, wholegrain, rye, soy-linseed and sprouted multi grain because I preferred them and (not all at once) my doctor told me I should only eat white bread so I stopped eating them and I have constipation, bloated stomach and dizzy spells now as well as other issues which I didn't have before thanks I'm going back to eating my favourite breads let's see if all these symptoms dissappear thank you so much for your advice ❤❤❤

It's important to note that everyone's body reacts differently to different types of foods, so what works for one person may not work for another. While white bread may be recommended for some people with certain health conditions, it's not necessarily the best choice for everyone. It's always a good idea to listen to your body and work with a healthcare professional to develop a personalized nutrition plan that meets your individual needs and goals.

Since I was a kid rye bread has been my favorite but I do like sourdough and I guess I'm now going to try soy linseed and sprouted multigrain. I also like English muffins but have switched to multigrain ones. Oh, my favorite sandwich as a kid was either grilled cheese with tomato or tuna. Still like both but add in sardines too! I'm from Philly so there are guilty pleasures as well occasionally but I'll switch to a chicken cheese steak 90% of the time or fresh made roast beef or roast pork both with Italian long hots and a stick of stinky provolone sometimes with either brocolli rabe or spinach! I just lost 18 lbs. And my numbers are good or ldl decreasing steadily! I'm border line or was for type 2 but adjusted my eating still occasionally partaking in guilty pleasures but otherwise switched to other things good for me I already loved anyway. Like beets, oatmeal, cut white bread for rye or multigrain always had rye anyway still drink iced tea but unsweetened with squeezed orange. Switched to extra virgin olive oil long ago now as well as using olive or avocado oil mayo. Pasta and icecream are tough and still there recently switched to chickpea pasta or and my favorite is Ratatouille over spaghetti squash sometimes adding chicken and occasionally Turkey pepperoni. 🤷🏼‍♂️🙄😎🤙

It's wonderful to hear about your journey towards healthier eating and lifestyle changes! It sounds like you've made some fantastic choices by incorporating a variety of nutritious foods into your diet while still enjoying some guilty pleasures in moderation. Rye bread, sourdough, multigrain options, and English muffins are great choices for incorporating whole grains. Your choice of sandwich fillings, such as grilled cheese with tomato, tuna, sardines, and roast beef or pork with Italian long hots and provolone, showcases a diverse and flavorful approach to your meals. Switching to unsweetened iced tea, using extra virgin olive oil, and opting for healthier pasta alternatives like chickpea pasta are all positive steps. Your creative twist on Ratatouille with spaghetti squash and adding lean proteins like chicken or turkey pepperoni adds variety and nutrition to your meals. Congratulations on the weight loss and improvements in your numbers! It's clear that you've put thought and effort into making choices that work for you and contribute to your overall well-being. Keep up the good work, and remember that a balanced and mindful approach to eating is key to long-term success. If you have any further questions or need more advice, feel free to ask!

What about pumpernickel? Is that a diabetic friendly bread?
@DiabeticsTalk
@DiabeticsTalk Жыл бұрын
Pumpernickel bread is a type of bread that is traditionally made from coarsely ground rye flour and often contains other ingredients such as molasses and caraway seeds. Compared to white bread, pumpernickel bread has a lower glycemic index, which means it does not cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels. However, it's important to note that pumpernickel bread is not necessarily a "diabetic-friendly" bread as it still contains carbohydrates, which can affect blood sugar levels. The key to managing blood sugar levels is to monitor carbohydrate intake and choose bread options that are high in fiber and lower in refined carbohydrates. As with any food, it's important to monitor portion sizes and work with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian to develop a personalized nutrition plan that meets your individual needs and helps you manage your blood sugar levels.

What about Ciabatta bread?
@DiabeticsTalk
@DiabeticsTalk Жыл бұрын
Ciabatta bread is a type of Italian bread known for its rustic appearance and chewy texture. When it comes to its suitability for individuals with diabetes, there are a few considerations: Carbohydrate content: Ciabatta bread is typically made with wheat flour, which means it contains carbohydrates. Carbohydrates can affect blood sugar levels, so it's important for individuals with diabetes to be mindful of their carbohydrate intake and consider portion sizes. Glycemic index: The glycemic index (GI) is a measure of how quickly carbohydrates in a food raise blood sugar levels. Foods with a high GI value can cause a rapid spike in blood sugar, while those with a low GI value result in a slower and more gradual increase. Ciabatta bread typically has a high glycemic index, which means it can cause a faster rise in blood sugar levels. Fiber content: Whole wheat or whole grain varieties of ciabatta bread may have a higher fiber content compared to refined white ciabatta bread. Fiber can help slow down the absorption of glucose, resulting in a slower rise in blood sugar levels. Choosing whole wheat or whole grain options can be a better choice for individuals with diabetes. It's important to note that managing diabetes involves considering the overall balance of your diet and individualized meal planning. While ciabatta bread can be enjoyed in moderation as part of a well-balanced meal, it's generally recommended to opt for whole grain or whole wheat bread options that have a lower glycemic index and higher fiber content. It's always best to consult with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian for personalized advice tailored to your specific health needs and dietary preferences.

What about white wheat??
@DiabeticsTalk
@DiabeticsTalk Жыл бұрын
White wheat bread is made from flour that has been milled from white wheat grains, which have a lighter color and milder flavor compared to traditional red wheat. While white wheat bread may have slightly more fiber and nutrients than traditional white bread, it is still a refined grain and not as nutritious as whole wheat bread. White wheat bread is typically lower in fiber and higher in sugar and calories than whole wheat bread. For those with diabetes or trying to manage blood sugar levels, it is generally recommended to choose whole grain bread over refined bread to help regulate blood sugar levels and provide more nutrients.

Bagels are boiled for a short time. Not fried!
@DiabeticsTalk
@DiabeticsTalk Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. You are correct that traditional bagels are boiled in water for a short time before being baked in the oven, rather than being fried. This process gives bagels their distinctive chewy texture and crispy crust. However, it's important to note that bagels are still a high-carb food, and can cause blood sugar levels to spike for people with diabetes. It's important to consume bagels in moderation as part of a balanced diet and to choose whole grain options whenever possible, as these are higher in fiber and can help regulate blood sugar levels.

Bagels aren't fried. Made properly, they are boiled and baked.

You are absolutely right! We apologize for the oversight. Bagels are traditionally made by boiling the dough first and then baking them, not frying. Boiling gives bagels their characteristic chewy texture, and then they are baked to achieve the golden crust. Thank you for pointing out the mistake, and we appreciate your attention to detail. I’ve made my own bagels and the process doesn’t involve frying in any way. Prior to being baked in an oven, the shaped bread rings are briefly poached in boiling water for 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on how chewy they are required to be. Your information is completely misleading on this point.
@DiabeticsTalk
@DiabeticsTalk Жыл бұрын
Thank you for pointing out the important clarification about the bagel-making process. You're absolutely right, and we appreciate your input. The traditional method of making bagels does involve briefly poaching the shaped dough rings in boiling water before they are baked in the oven. This step gives bagels their unique texture and chewiness. We apologize for any confusion caused by the earlier information. It's great that you're making your own bagels and following the authentic process. Homemade bagels can be a delicious and satisfying treat, and the poaching step is a crucial part of achieving that classic bagel texture. Keep up the fantastic work in the kitchen, and thank you for sharing your insights. If you have any more tips or experiences to share, we're sure the community would love to learn from them!

On reflection I have to assume that whoever came up with that misleading piece of information must have been thinking about doughnuts, which are most definitely deep-fried in hot oil.
