We were smelling gas from front of Sequoia, replaced the spark plugs resolved issue. For extra insurance got coils from Toyota dealer with Labor day sale. Otherwise would have also done RockAuto Denso. I think coils were original at 19 years and still working.

Really love how more automotive KZbinrs are now in my inbox. Your diagnosis is perfect! I am happy I bought the same truck and the first thing I did is replace all spark plugs and ignition coil. I do not mind spending money. For others on here, I agree that spending $480 dollars for 8 plugs and coils is not easy. But believe me, once the job is done you are solid for another 40,000 to 60,000 miles. I would also recommend you doing egr, throttle, PC valve and hoses checked.

As usual another excellent video, ( I commented on a previous video on the dash lights etc. I changed the same bulbs in my tundra as you did and my “D” bulb blew out again after just 2 weeks so hopefully yours lasts much longer lol, it’s ironic the video you just put out happened to my 4 runner this week, changed the #4 coil and plugs and issue fixed, just wanted to say your videos really do help out so keep up the great work..Dave

Good call changing them all. I played the musical coils for like 3 years and finally just replaced them all haha! A simple trick if you have no code reader is to remove and reseat each coil one at a time. If the thudding doesnt get worse and sounds the same you know you have the failed pack out.

At the 9:00 mark, in the bottom left of the screen what is that metal part called? My 2000 tundra is missing it. I have not been able to figure out what it does or is called.
@JDMDriveway
@JDMDriveway Жыл бұрын
It's the ABS module, I was able to grab a part number for you. 89541-0C040 not sure how involved it would be to add this into your truck because the brake lines all run through it so I don't know that you could reuse your existing ones. Hope this helps get you in the right direction! Thanks for watching - Sal

@@JDMDriveway alright thank you so much. So what would missing this abs module do to the truck? I drive it every day and it feels fine but I definitely do not have one of those.
@JDMDriveway
@JDMDriveway Жыл бұрын
It's a safety feature to help keep the truck under control in hard braking. It's standard in cars now, but I mean if Toyota didn't think it was necessary from the factory it's probably ok to live without lol you can look up videos here on KZbin to see how ABS helps with braking

@@JDMDriveway ohhhh I see what you’re saying now. I don’t plan on installing one if my truck never had it in the first place. I’m just thinking that the truck had it from factory and maybe the previous owner removed it for whatever reason

@JDMDriveway
@JDMDriveway Жыл бұрын
I'm hoping that the new coils and plugs will get me some more gas mileage but haven't filled up yet to do the calculation. The spark plugs should be pregapped out of the box, but I just verified that they matched the ones that came out of the truck. I don't remember what the feeler gauge measurement was, sorry. How often should the coil packs be replaced my block currently has 303,000 miles and have never replaced them. Im thinking of replacing them now or should i wait til i have a misfire
@JDMDriveway
@JDMDriveway 10 ай бұрын
I mean it's kinda up to you. I don't know that there's a published replacement interval, but at 300k miles I'd imagine that they're kinda living on borrowed time. Maybe buy one or two and have them on hand in case you do experience a misfire! Thanks for watching

@@JDMDriveway yep I’m all about preventative maintenance. A little work or money to prevent further issues is what I like to do for nearly everything. Better to replace a $100 part then to have say a ball joint failure on the highway. Lol I know it’s not always needed but I’d rather prevent issues from happening in the first place. Part of why half the time I drive with no music just so I can hear the normal vs not normal sounds of my truck. Helps me to find problems before they get serious. And checking due diligence before long treks. It’s all something I learned working my career. Safety first and prevention next.
