Also to poster.. the mechanics labor rate doesn't go to the guy fixing your stuff, he is lucky if he makes even half of what they charge. what your paying for is the guy to fix it who has all the proper tools, the overhead to keep the lights on and the compressor fully pressurized, the overhead of the rent for the building or property taxes, and a share of the employers costs for health insurance for employees, uniforms, cost to clean the uniforms, etc etc. ( health insurance does not apply in areas that have universal health care) .

I fall into that mindset at times where I think it's best to let the pros do a repair or install, but it's mainly fear talking. As long as I understand what I'm doing, I should be capable of doing it. Fear is sometimes unreasonable!

My biggest problem with that is the fact that I work for one of those companies of "professionals" we got the fact uniforms and painted vans, but at the end of the day the truth is that I work with idiots, it's hard to get the right people for the job, and I wouldn't let half of them touch my stuff. So the image is great, but half of the people in this world have no clue how to do their job
@Scoottoots
@Scoottoots 8 жыл бұрын
+Vegas RoManiac That's very true. I worked in a technical field also (not mechanics though, lol), and I agree, most people don't take the onus on themselves to understand what they are doing. It's as if there is a switch that isn't connected in their brains.

I like the new picture on the intro. Quick question about that washer. I know that they are supposed to bend over the nut to keep it from backing out while riding. Do you replace the washer every time you swap the front sprocket? Have you ever had one break from bending and straightening it? Just wondering because I've been running the 16T on the front of the KLR, but Meeker Extreme gave me a 14T to swap out and I want to know before I take it apart if I should have another washer before I take it apart.
@vegasromaniac
@vegasromaniac 8 жыл бұрын
My washed has 3 bendable ears, so every time one weakens I bend another till I run out. I have about 3 of them as backup so they are cheap just get a bunch..

Its things like this that make me laugh... if you are going to work on your bike make sure you know what you are doing, that isnt a crank shaft you are looking at for starters. as a motorcycle tech i can see why some people NEED to look for a professional for work to their motorcycle. its not just the job at hand its the knowledge and expertise you pay for... plus the visual checks to make sure you arent potentially damaging your bike by leaving serviceable items past the ware limit.

Might be a dumb question but if I had a bad seal, would the sprocket have to be spinning in order to leak? I’ve whipped everything down and let the bike idle for a while and it’s dry as a whistle, do you think I’m good to go?
@vegasromaniac
@vegasromaniac 6 жыл бұрын
You need to ride it, sproket needs to spin, oil needs to get hot, and pressure need to build in the case.. Ride it up and down the street, should be a good test

i wondered a few things, it seems to me the sprocket is also suppose to form a seal between thaty metal piece and the output shaft and any imperfections could cause it to leak. so how do you seal that? seems to me it's intended to leak slightly to keep the chain lubricated.

For sure with my local shop. They charge $95 an hour and they will tell you a simple job will take 5 hours. Then you come to pick up your bike and they haven't done it yet so you watch them fix the problem in 20 minutes and they still want to charge you for the 5 hours that they told you it would take. This exact thing happened to my friend. That's why I'm the only one that goes near my bike with a wrench!

+Clay Sensiba we are in for the sport and we are in the the Fixing, double the Fun ! thanks for sharing ... i never heard that, i always heard that they tell you to come back later on ... hahaha to justify the 5 hours that it takes to fix it !

Definitely not a mechanic that's is overpriced ... like a Dr your paying for the school they went to when you go to a mechanic your paying for the tools they have purchased to be able to correctly fix your vehicle ... then there is the shop fee wich is the majority of the expense but feel free to dig into it yourself and when you get over your head and can't figure it out I'll be here waiting lol ... and just fyi I charge 25 $ an hour to work on vehicles and I will help you find the cheapest way to get back on the road ... but thats me .. I do it out of my garage ... and no I'm not a backyard mechanic I'm a mechanic for Camel Towing and dismantle cars trucks whatever any make any model I see alot of stuff where people wanted to save money and fix they own car and then it comes to me cause they fucked it up... just saying some people are not meant to wrench on things know thy self and be true
