Microbrand Shmicrobrand, rather like arguing about musical genres - useful if you are trying to keep a hot air balloon aloft (not!). PS. That winding is perhaps part of that 'mid-century aesthetic'; rather than winding using finger and thumb, I push my index finger down the back of the winder. Agreed, not really ideal, but it works and big wonders are for pilots watches not for dress watches (which this clearly is - or perhaps that's another pointless debate!)

Thank you for another thorough and honest review. I e been waiting for the right orange dial watch for many years. I love what Baltic has done here with the agate dial. As a person with small wrists, the dimensions are spot on for me. The perfect watch! Oh wait a minute, the crown! Question, how much does the crown detract from the winding enjoyment? I have a 35mm Hentschel that has a tiny crown that took some getting used to but at least I can get 2 fingers on it. Is the Baltic super difficult for 54 year old fingers or is it a tad less enjoyable than optimal? Any help would be appreciated since I have my eye on a used one. Thank you in advance for any help you offer. Thomas

Absolutely beautiful watch. I haven't added a Baltic to my collection yet and I probably won't be adding this one. However the standard prismic is actually pretty appealing to me. I do think we can safely move Baltic out of the micro category based solely off the fact that most people have heard of them, in fact a lot of people own one. It's easy to see why, they make beautiful vintage style watches.

Thanks for a really helpful review, Jody. I'm generally a strap guy, rather than bracelets, so would def go with the leather. Key question: what size is your wrist? Mine is 18cm, so smaller watches tend to wear well for me but wanted to judge based on how it looks on your wrist. Thanks.

If you limit yourself to watches with certain Swiss brand names on the dial, you quickly end up paying North of $3000 for pretty much anything. And the enjoyment you get when opening the watch box may not meet what you expect when forking out that much. I know, I have been there and done that for 10 years. Thank you to Baltic, Unimatic, Traska and many others for making this hobby interesting again.

My KZbin feed was flooded with reviews of this new Baltic on the day the embargo lifted. Dr Jody’s review was a day or so later than the others but, not surprisingly, it was the best and really the only review that you need ti view if you’re interested in this watch. The case is interesting and reminds me of the Bremont trip-tick cases. And I love the classic dimensions. But for me, I prefer Nomos’ in-house version of the Peseux 7001 that hacks - and a used Orion can be found for well under the asking price of this watch.

Hey, I checked out the New York showroom just today. That orange dial caught my eye online too. And no, I don't get why New York is orange. The dial is nice, but not nice enough that I dropped the coin. And yes, the mesh is a problem. It bulges awkwardly on my 6.5" wrist, and looks odd too. And while they do have a New York showroom, and it's in SoHo, but it's a room, on the tenth floor, off a long, drab, rather run down corridor. I'm sure it's not cheap, but it's not exactly a luxury boutique.

Fair enough. The room is nice, and it was fun to see the watches. I will be back. However, finding the room was a bit of an adventure. The guard sent me to 10th floor. I get there and I'm in an elevator lobby, a bare room with a door with buzzers, but no signage, and no idea which buzzer to buzz. So I go back downstairs, and guard gives me the door code, so up I go again, and I get through the door, and then there's a long, long, windy corridor. I think there's a sign at the beginning pointing that way, but then nothing. At the very end there's a door with a tiny little tag on it that says "Baltic." Just a bit more signage and directions would have made that part less cryptic and perplexing, like I was trying to find a speakeasy. Anyway, I say this I hope as a bit of constructive criticism to improve the experience.
