TIP: For anyone with this kit or similar and is still having issues after wiring it like the video here is a fix. Plug the pins into the connector just as it shows in the video. When you plug the connector into the red part on the ballast just flip them around on both of them. Mine actually had a positive and a negative mark on each one to match them up. So you’ll want the positive side to go into negative slot and the negative side to go into the positive side if that makes sense. Many hours of frustration and this is what finally got mine to work correctly.

No matter what I do to mine they remain dim, they start up really bright then within a second return to a dim state, does this mean my 12v current isn't strong enough?

Good video sir. People doing installs (plug & play installs) with just the factory stock wiring may end up ruining/overheating the wires cause of what you said...the ballast uses alot of current to start up. And that is why you used relay harness because it uses the right awg. gauge wire for the ballast and it gives it the amount of power it needs to work.

@jbmjbm323
@jbmjbm323 2 жыл бұрын
@@galodoidousarenato5504 it should still work. My only opinion though when you connect it direct to the headlight plug, the stock wiring for the bulb may overheat and burn out the wire if the stock fuse does not blow because HID startup uses alot of volts/amperage it says on the ballast. I use a relay for my hid lights because I can hook up a bigger gauge wire to run my hids. The headlight plug runs to a relay, then the relay would switch on and send power from the other wire I use to power my hids. You should check out videos on youtube on how automotive relays work. But without a relay, your hid kit should still work. Just read the instructions...

Assuming the new HID kit works fine, if you install a relay wiring harness for the HID, then you will be powering the HID directly off the car battery and that should take care of any flickering or turn on issue.

Saw a post here, someone had both hi/low beams on the factory plug and they wanted to install both but this video was for low beams only. I would think if they wanted hi and low beams, they would need to buy a bi-hid kit for both hi/low beam and for the relay harness it may look alittle different I think, but basically the same thing here in your vid.

so im ordering aftermarket headlights for my 2002 530i due to a deer hitting and cracking my passenger headlight and the aftermarket I ordered says non compatible with factory HID cars which mine is. Will I be able to make it work?

Yes by installing a different kit. For example i ordered aftermarket headlights also for my car and came with an LED strip inside (which i think it looks cool) but my original HID bulbs did not fit so i had to buy a different set that would fit my aftermarket and it worked.

did you have a actual OEM connector for the ballast? I had my HID kit installed years ago, and cent figure where they plugged the connector into. I been using the fog light connector since.

Question? Why other KZbin videos showed the relay black wire hooked up to the battery !!
@dial2fast
@dial2fast 9 жыл бұрын
+alilazmo Black wire is chassis ground. The battery negative terminal connects to the car chassis. Either connect the black wire to chassis or to the negative terminal on the battery...same thing.

Can I connect any one of the two factory harnesses to the relay for a signal from the car to turn on? do I leave the another harness unattached?

Jonathan Martinez Yes, use any one side to turn on the relay. The other side, just leave it disconnected.

I have installed x5 can-bus ballast with 35w HID bulb. It is working good only as a head light but i lost my DRL (Day running lights). Will HID works as both head lights and DRL?
@dial2fast

+Sutha Tharakan HID is too bright for use as DRL. You can of course install it, but its annoying to oncoming traffic.

+dial2fast one of my friend told me he is using HID as DRl as well as the same HID working as his head light. ( dim light + head light in one HID) thats what i'm confused. Mine is just as head light. When i start the car no lights will work. But in canada its a law to use a DRl in vehicles. I can install an external DRL but I'm confused how his HID working as both DRl and headlight. My HID was flickered when low voltage is supply, so they changed the ballast and installed x5 can-bus with flicker canceller.

+Sutha Tharakan Factory DRL from years ago (non LED) operates by cutting the voltage in half. So it puts 6v on each high beam bulb. That's why it's not full brightness. I am not aware of any ballast that operates at both 6v and 12v. You might want to take a look at your friends car and see what's his setup.

+dial2fast yes. I'll go and see his setup this week and will share with you what he did for his DRL. Thanks for your replies.

Great instructional video helps those who haven't done this prior alot, i have done them enough its pretty quick now however on my own car i need something extra i guess! My hids just one night decided to go out & continue this every night hete & there, the kicker is i had my car parked today with hazards on for about 45min-1h & the car was totally dead! It was so dead that even bump starting didn't work i had to get an actually boost, so i think i know why my lights suddenly started going out but i still want to wire in a relay. Can i just take a relay and make my conections on it or do i have to buy a harness, i only ask 1 because i'm short on time and can't wait for stuff to get shipped to me in Ontario Canada 2nd i have a brand new relay sitting in my parts crap so i could save time & money it i can use that one. Thanks

Phil Peterson If you know how to wire up a relay, then of course you can. I normally put together my own relay harness, but for demonstration, I used this relay kit. Just make sure you fuse the 12v wire for safety.
