+1 for a brake lever & bar roll setup segment. I find that rolling the bars too far back slows down steering, and too far forward quickens it but to a point that also includes hand numbness, maybe because the ends of the bar point upward as backsweep turns upward. I will add that I think a lot of people overlook the distance from the lever to the grip. I like to leave just enough lever over the grip that I can rest my index finger on the hook of the lever. That way when I pull the lever close to the grip it doesn't interfere with my other fingers. I think a lot of people could be running their lever closer to the bars to help with pump but haven't pushed their levers in enough.

I came from motocross/enduro to MTB enduro/downhill. In motocross, the majority tend to run their levers flat. This is all I've known, so I set my MTB cockpit up the same way. Good to have some reassurance from Jordi that I'm doing something right LOL

Totally agree, and flattening break levers has additionally helped me get my eyes up, however dropping the elbows to accommodate flat levers has its draws too. I find my body weight wandering off the back of the bike. This is especially bad going into fast corners where I need traction up front. Would you say that an issue like this could be resolved by increasing pressure or volume spacers in the rear shock to keep weight centered on the bike? How do you explain the ride style of someone like Aaron Gwin? His aggressive style with high elbows has allowed him to be incredibly precise.
@kyle6184 жыл бұрын

Everything is about compromises. There are tons of ways to change this. Lower the levers a little bit, put more air or a token in the rear shock, put less air or less compression in your fork, get a shorter stem, lower the cockpit by removing spacers etc. etc.

@jbs36914 жыл бұрын

@ardor42474 жыл бұрын
With flats we tend to want to get behind the pedal axle more so we can weight our feet adequately in high impact situations. That means we, in theory, can run our levers higher because of where our weight distribution favours a bit more rearward than when clipped in.
@paullehrbmx4 жыл бұрын
@@ardor4247 flat place you foot further forward compared to clips, but you consciously weight properly (heels down) to maintain a lower center of gravity.
@jimg.49134 жыл бұрын
Good vid. A thought on raising the levers to drop the elbow position. In order for this to work properly the rider will have to improve their low back, glutes, and hamstring flexibility so that when they drop their elbows they are achieving the position via flexion at the lumbar spine not flexion in the thoracic (mid back) spine - if this is not the case their weight will be transferred too far rearward on the bike. Further - if riders utilize a raised brake position without an appropriate level of flexibility to drop their elbows they will endanger the extensor retinaculum of the wrist (the strap that holds your tendons in place). LSS: it's a good idea but you might want to work your way up to it instead of just rolling your levers to flat.
@mountainlessbiking32684 жыл бұрын
This is definitely my favorite MTB series on KZbin. I’ve always struggled with setting up my suspension compression vs air pressure. When do you increase LSC/HSC vs running less sag? Thanks
@kleinkurti4 жыл бұрын
Don't ride less SAG if you are not using your full travel. Compression will not change the amount of travel that you use on certain features, air does. Get your SAG/airpressure dialed first (without any compression) and after that, start to use compression to get less suspension dive or to get a better feedback from the ground. Lsc is for cornering, pushing and other smooth or slow motions. Hsc is for hard hits like drops etc. But both are kinda connected and influence each other.

Depends if you are racing or not. If you are just riding lift access park and jumping you probably want it a bit lower. Racing you need to still be able to put power to the cranks when seated for certain situations. Also some people like to help steer the bike by pushing against the saddle with their inner thigh.
@Aljonone14 жыл бұрын
Yes low is good, but not too low that tyre buzzes the seat is best!
@binkzera27774 жыл бұрын
Usually the saddle height is limited by how high the rear wheel is, when the suspension is fully compressed. Some riders just want it as low as possible, some will run it high enough that they can sit down and pedal, and some will run the saddle high, so they can squeeze it with their legs/knees, when they do no handers.

If I put the rebound a bit faster, I tend to lose bounce around and lose contact with the pedals. I think more pressure and slower rebound means it won't keep up with successive hits. When you have to run too high psi (or too little sag) in your suspension, in order to avoid bottom outs on big hits and harsh landings. Add a volume spacer or two, set sag to 15-30% (depending on riding style and other factors), that should reduce bottom-outs significantly. Try compressing your bike as hard as you can on flat ground with you riding gear on, you shouldn't be able to go over 80% travel. make sure to check max volume spacers capacity for your fork or shock.
