+1 for a brake lever & bar roll setup segment. I find that rolling the bars too far back slows down steering, and too far forward quickens it but to a point that also includes hand numbness, maybe because the ends of the bar point upward as backsweep turns upward. A deeper dive by the Pro's would be awesome. Keep up the great work guys! Really enjoy these videos.

My mechanic recently made this change during a service. I was not happy he messed with my cockpit. He recommended I try it. I had my levers down for decades. It felt weird af at first. I have struggled for year with arm fatigue on long chunky descents. This simple change completely fixed it for me. After being pissed at my mech I dropped off a sixer and thanked him profusely.

I will add that I think a lot of people overlook the distance from the lever to the grip. I like to leave just enough lever over the grip that I can rest my index finger on the hook of the lever. That way when I pull the lever close to the grip it doesn't interfere with my other fingers. I think a lot of people could be running their lever closer to the bars to help with pump but haven't pushed their levers in enough.

Totally agree, and flattening break levers has additionally helped me get my eyes up, however dropping the elbows to accommodate flat levers has its draws too. I find my body weight wandering off the back of the bike. This is especially bad going into fast corners where I need traction up front. Would you say that an issue like this could be resolved by increasing pressure or volume spacers in the rear shock to keep weight centered on the bike? How do you explain the ride style of someone like Aaron Gwin? His aggressive style with high elbows has allowed him to be incredibly precise.
@kyle618

Everything is about compromises. There are tons of ways to change this. Lower the levers a little bit, put more air or a token in the rear shock, put less air or less compression in your fork, get a shorter stem, lower the cockpit by removing spacers etc. etc.

With flats we tend to want to get behind the pedal axle more so we can weight our feet adequately in high impact situations. That means we, in theory, can run our levers higher because of where our weight distribution favours a bit more rearward than when clipped in.

Good vid. A thought on raising the levers to drop the elbow position. In order for this to work properly the rider will have to improve their low back, glutes, and hamstring flexibility so that when they drop their elbows they are achieving the position via flexion at the lumbar spine not flexion in the thoracic (mid back) spine - if this is not the case their weight will be transferred too far rearward on the bike. Further - if riders utilize a raised brake position without an appropriate level of flexibility to drop their elbows they will endanger the extensor retinaculum of the wrist (the strap that holds your tendons in place). LSS: it's a good idea but you might want to work your way up to it instead of just rolling your levers to flat.

This is definitely my favorite MTB series on KZbin. I’ve always struggled with setting up my suspension compression vs air pressure. When do you increase LSC/HSC vs running less sag? Thanks
@kleinkurti
@kleinkurti 4 жыл бұрын
Don't ride less SAG if you are not using your full travel. Compression will not change the amount of travel that you use on certain features, air does. Get your SAG/airpressure dialed first (without any compression) and after that, start to use compression to get less suspension dive or to get a better feedback from the ground. Lsc is for cornering, pushing and other smooth or slow motions. Hsc is for hard hits like drops etc. But both are kinda connected and influence each other.

Depends if you are racing or not. If you are just riding lift access park and jumping you probably want it a bit lower. Racing you need to still be able to put power to the cranks when seated for certain situations. Also some people like to help steer the bike by pushing against the saddle with their inner thigh.

Usually the saddle height is limited by how high the rear wheel is, when the suspension is fully compressed. Some riders just want it as low as possible, some will run it high enough that they can sit down and pedal, and some will run the saddle high, so they can squeeze it with their legs/knees, when they do no handers.

When getting up around the 300psi mark it’s hard to get things set up well, it’s either set up to make sure you don’t bottom out a lot and the shock is firm as hell or it’s soft and you bottom out on moderate hits

Question: What would you recommend? Theme: Rear Shock Situation: The shock seems to get a bit overwhelmed on extended off-camber descents. It's a Fox DPS 7.5x2.0. If I put the rebound a bit faster, I tend to lose bounce around and lose contact with the pedals. I think more pressure and slower rebound means it won't keep up with successive hits. So I'm considering spacers, a piggy back shock, but I'd like to get the most out of what I have. Rider weight 75kg (165lbs). Intermediate skills. What would you recommend?

Do longer reach/wheelbase bikes have to run higher pressures than shorter reach/wheelbase bikes. It seams that leverage ratios and slightly more noticeable hobby horsing on a long bike would require more support than the shorter bikes. I understand longer bikes have a more centralized rider position and therefore less rider movement than the short bikes that encourage a rider to move about more.

On my bicycles and also on motocross I always run levers down so that my wrist is straight. Never had arm pump.

Fair enough on a mx bike, your riding flat stuff alot, and uphill sections! On a dh bike, your riding downhill all the time, so lever position should definitely not be in line with your arms! You need your palm to take the weight not your thumb 👍🏻👍🏻

Not only brake lever position but also brake lever distance from the bar, how far out should i have my lever from the bar?
@shawnpowell2733
@shawnpowell2733 4 жыл бұрын
If your brake lever is too far out and you need to reach for it. This may cause some pump. I find it best to have your lever just far enough out that when you do pull the lever it doesn't interfere with your other fingers.

When to use Volume spacers...
@Alexbeauchesne1
@Alexbeauchesne1 4 жыл бұрын
When you have to run too high psi (or too little sag) in your suspension, in order to avoid bottom outs on big hits and harsh landings. Add a volume spacer or two, set sag to 15-30% (depending on riding style and other factors), that should reduce bottom-outs significantly. Try compressing your bike as hard as you can on flat ground with you riding gear on, you shouldn't be able to go over 80% travel. make sure to check max volume spacers capacity for your fork or shock.

As I understand whenever you service forks lowers, you need to change foam rings. But, I can't find where to buy foam rings separately from seals! Does FOX sell foam rings separately? If it does, please share dealer's contacts in Europe.

No they dont😬Only in a seal kit. But you can reuse your rings if you get them cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and they look white. They only need to be replaced if they are damaged or too dirty

I’ve always used my levers kind a flat position not too much like the French, but more flat than most of my friends. But looking at my riding position I am always to far back and with the legs very bent, and that also causes me some leg fatigue even when’s is no pedalling. What can I do to force me to get a better aggressive position?
@Loosebirnieee
@Loosebirnieee 4 жыл бұрын
Straighten your legs and dip ankles and focus on putting weight through your palms 👍🏻 consciously think about that as your riding a trail slowly 👍🏻

compensating with an aggressive front tire, when what is needed is a more balanced bodyweight distribution throughout your bike setup. I see this way too much. People being too upright to the point where there is no weight on the front tire and the bike tends to drift in heavy cornering.
