Hey, great review, thanks. Nice to see someone reviewing a figure like this. Maximillian is awesome, and The Black Hole was really creepy the first time I watched it. The thought that Reinhardt had memory-wiped the crew and turned them into automatons was terrifying. Really enjoyed the vid.

Well they do seem to be selling out everywhere. No more available until November according to most stores that sold them. It's a market that hasn't had much in the way of merchandise and it seems like there's a lot of fans.

Picking mine up directly at EE tomorrow on Will Call, yep like the TRON figs, been waiting 40 years for these. Hope there is a Wave 2 for both series and we see S.T.A.R., a Sentry Robot, and a Humanoid coming next. I have spoken directly with Diamond Select and it all depends on the success of course on these first waves.

@@outsider238 Indeed, my wish list for Wave 2 of TRON would be Ram, Yori, and Elite Guard. Unfortunately I heard that there are issues with the Bluray release including the absence of the original opening score. Hold onto your DVD collectors additions.

I got the deck and rail with Vincent and Bob. You’re supposed to get the cardboard wall to clip onto the deck with Maximillian. Only I didn’t get my cardboard with Maximillian!

Went back to Disc Replay and picked up big bad Max! He was still there! Now off to ebay for vincent and bob! Wooooooo! It was the walgreens version btw so not too many interchangeable parts but i still like it.😊😁

I'm glad you were able to get him! You might try Amazon for Vincent and Bob. My guess is that eBay sellers would charge more. I think they're $29 on Amazon.

Thank you! It would be interesting to see what they could do with the movie today but I also would hate to see the original sort of pushed to the side for a newer version. The look and feel and practical effects of the original is (at least for me) the charm of it.

There director of Tron Legacy was Very interested in remaking The Black Hole but because Tron didn't preform three way they want they didn't green light the movie.

It hopefully will be left alone so we can enjoy it knowing Disney didn't destroy it like star wars, marvel or live action remakes, then beloved classics can be enjoyed by a discerning audience and not be ruined forever because of "agenda" politics . Ok that does it! I saw this figure at Disc Replay (its a used dvd/blu ray/cd store in my area) and passed it up. Now you convinced me to go back and get it! Hopefully its still there! I saw this movie at the theater when it first came out. Yeah i was seven. I want to find bob and vincent too! The robots were the coolest part like you said. As far as the stand they prolly were gonna make the part with the railing then decided not to due to some production issue but prolly already had all the packaging artwork printed so they just made it like that rather than redoing it. Happens all the time. Ive been collecting for awhile. Seen this before. I just wish they would have put a light inside there! Or a real spinning "blade". Well at least the light. Thats not dificult. Just a simple flashlight. Anyway too long a comment by me but great review by you! Thanks for posting! O yeah i did find a copy of the movie at disc replay btw! What fun watching it again!

Oh man, yes, go back and get Maximilian! And for sure get Vincent and Bob as well! These are awesome figures! I still love them! I'm such a Black Hole fan. I bought 5 of Vincent and Bob and 3 of the Walgreens exclusive Vincent. Kept 3 in the package of the 2 pack and 2 in the package of the Walgreens exclusive. I couldn't help myself! 😄

That's okay. If you're not interested in the display diorama the figures are exactly the same. I think Maximilian has one or two less accessories like a claw or blade as well. I think it's actually more difficult to find the Walgreens exclusives than the original versions.

I just got Max from Walgreeens by chance and for $17! I really wanted the alternate head; that end scene with Reinhardt fused with Max is the best scene in the film. Great review

Thank you! Oh man, you have to see the movie. Keep in mind it's from 1979 but it still holds up today. First PG movie from Disney. Has a dark, creepy feel to it. The robots are the best part!

Might need to contact DST or return where you bought it, I've see another review with the black stand and that entire diorama piece, background and railing, so seems like it was just forgotten when it was packaged, need to keep an eye out for when I get mine

I'm beginning to wonder if the other pieces are included in the Vincent and Bob set and you need to buy both to get the full diorama. If that is the case, Diamond Select should have specified that somewhere on the packaging so that people know what is going on. @@LightHawkAlchemist Haha! No, you're fine. I wasn't sure what was going on either. The problem is that there's no mention at all on the packaging about that diorama that you need both sets to complete it.

You need both sets to make one display stand, I'm guessing that they were going to give you one whole set up with each set but then cut back, I say this because with the Vincent set, not only do you get the rest of the display but you also get three small joiner to attach the base stands together from underneath, why give you joiners with only one stand. The other thing mite be more figures of star or the century guard figures in the future with more backdrops to add on.

In your review, part of Maximillian keeps drooping down under the weight of the attachments. Is this a fault with the figure and if so does it affect just your copy or is it a widespread problem? If its a problem with every copy out there, is there a fix? Great review, really enjoyed it, keep up the good work!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! I'm guessing that drooping is specific to my figure. That particular arm is a bit loose. The others aren't like that. I do think that constant movement of those arms will loosen them over time though.

As far as I know but I've been to several Walgreens around me and haven't seen them. To be honest, the Walgreens versions aren't as good. There's no diorama pieces that are included in those and I think some other accessories aren't included as well.

I would go to websites that sell these types of collectibles like Entertainment Earth, Big Bad Toys and even Amazon had them until they sold out. I still have one more Vincent and Bob set backordered until November with Entertainment Earth. That's when wave 2 comes out. Someone in the comments section a few days ago said they just found them at comic shop. Hopefully the virus won't delay production of the next wave.

Is the Max figure based on the scale of the film prop? I ask because he seems much deeper from front to back than he seems in the film. If you look at him from the side he just looks way thick to me.

He may not be exactly correct. I just discovered Vincent is painted incorrectly. The black areas aren't the way they are on the actual Vincent. I'm currently building the old MPC model of Vincent and making a video about it and mention this discrepancy.

Near as I can tell they come with less accessories. No diorama pieces. Vincent and Bob are in separate packages. I'm really not sure why there are two different packages for these. It's rather strange. I would think most people would want the regular versions since they come with everything.

Thank you !! As far as I know the Walgreens one is Vincent only. A single pack with no Old Bob. I'm not sure if there is a Walgreens exclusive Maximilian but there might be. I've looked around several Walgreens and haven't seen any of the Black Hole figures at all.

I think that they wanted to emphasize the interchangeable aspect of these toys, so the floor and handrail piece come with B.O.B. and V.I.N.CENT. It also ensures that you will buy all of the figures to get everything!

Robertjustafan just rewatched it myself with Disney plus. Pretty dark 😂. I took it that the crew went to a place of enlightenment or Heaven whilst Reinhardt went to hell. He also got karma in now need to reside inside Maximillian essentially a human trapped inside a shell kind of mirroring what he did to his crew.

​@@outsider238 - First off, I want to say… great review. I should have said that in my first response. Upon looking at other pictures, I think some of what I'm seeing wrong is likely due to your camera lens and lighting, but there are still some glaring issues if you’re looking for an accurate representation of him. The first thing I noticed is that his pectoral/shoulder/armpit area is rounded. The original Max has much more squared off lines in that area. His shoulders are also less angled downward, and slightly broader looking. All the angles and proportions in his upper torso are off. His large upper abdomen area under his pectorals should be more horizontal towards the centre, not down, and the two separate lower abs should be much bigger. These last two points could be camera lens and angle issues though. The other glaring mess-up is the ‘bucket’ where his crotch area is. There’s too much of a gap between that and his inner thighs because it’s too small. In reality, it’s almost the same size as his head. Because of the sizing difference, it makes his head look slightly too big. I also see an issue with the small ‘stabilizer fins’ on his knee area. On the toy it looks like they are just squared off when looking at them from the side. They actually taper in quite a bit. Think of a canoe paddle. Each of these on their own aren’t a big deal, but when combined I look at it overall, it just looks… off, to me. It’s not completely terrible, but with scanning technology available and archive footage and photos, and this being an official Disney release, I just hoped they would have really nailed this character better. I figured these are aimed at adults since it’s both and old film and has a very niche cult following of fans. When I was a kid I had the model, and regretfully at some point it disappeared over the years. I’d hoped this would be a better and more accurate replacement, but it looks to me like the 80’s model kit was more accurate. Considering I'd be looking at $115.00 plus $50.00 shipping to Canada, this would have be be dead-accurate for me to consider. It sucks, because I really wanted all three of the figures. By the way, I thought these don’t ship until November. How is everyone getting a hold of these already?

@@Rustbukkit69 Thank you! Wow! I didn't know there were all those incorrect details. I'm actually more of a fan of the Vincent and Bob figures but Max is cool. I had the models of Max and Vincent as well but sadly I lost them in a move. I wish these weren't so expensive for you to get. They really are great figures especially because of the lack of merchandise for this movie. I had pre-ordered these 7 months prior and this was the first wave. The second wave comes out in November so that's how we got them at this time. Thank you for your information. It was very interesting.

Near as I can tell, the only difference is that you don't get the pieces for the diorama. I haven't seen the Walgreens one in person. It's possible it comes with different accessories. The Walgreens Vincent doesn't come with Bob or the diorama pieces.
