I thought this interview was better than most of the others he did. He explained his drive, how he listened to his own advice. When you tell others what others want to hear, they're never going to hear you. All 1 million of them. But when you tell others what you want to say, they will only hear what you have to say. And wether its one or 1 million, you know your audience is as original as you are. And that is priceless.

Mitch is one of the greats. If I remember correctly, he was cooking at a place called Haggerty's in Boca Raton, FL. They started doing comedy nights and Mitch did his first open mic there. A few days later or maybe a week later he drove 45 minutes north to the Comedy Corner in West Palm Beach. I"m pretty sure I saw Mitch his second time ever on stage. He did a bunch of spots at the Tuesday night Comedy Corner open mic night over the next few months and then he disappeared. A few years later I started hearing other comics quoting his lines and they were incredible. Then I saw him on Letterman and I couldn't believe how great he had become. He cracked the code and figured it out. Mitch is one of the all time comedy originals.

And props to this guy, doing his thing, he just was like, "I don't care how famous anyone is, I want to talk to people that make me laugh." Where other Comedians tell long stories and build up suspense while dispensing wisdom; Mitch Hedberg got on stage every night and told jokes. When you adjust his success for that hell of a handicap, there's no one even in the same ball park as Mitch Hedberg.

nice work, Barry. this has to be one of the best TV show interviews of a comic in existence. Barry caught & maintained Mitch’s attention & respect, because he was listening, processing and tossing it back & forth…not just knocking out a list of generic questions to fill time. it was a conversation between 2 strangers that seem to have parted as pals. I’ve been protective of Mitch (like many of you here) since the 1st set I saw/heard him do, up to present day; seeing a host honestly enjoy their time with Mitchell is refreshing; it was sincere. I hadn’t seen this interview/spotlight until now, so I just got fresh Mitch Hedberg content in 2023…and that’s Proof that there is a God. I watched this while my Kitchen Clock/Power Interruption Indicator/Non-Portable SpaceHeater/Sometimes Makes the House Smell Funny Machine/Baker cooked my handmade pizza. it was no half-assed commitment. yeast was involved. It looked like someone had swept up the floor of some po-dunk bar, and dumped some that on his grave - cigarette butts and empty packs, broken empty alcohol bottles, etc.. The cement rectangular frame was hugely cracked apart, the dirt was all dried out like desert ground, and there was sparse dead weeds on top. Very sad.
