This was an important trip for anyone from the West to visit Russia which was only five years into its transition from communism. Princess Anne was the first British Royal to go there (1990) and it’s still amazing that Diana could go too. She dressed very simply to keep the focus on the people and her charm and friendliness won over everyone- despite the language barrier. Cute cameo from the Sun newspaper’s royal photographer, Arthur Edwards, near the end of the video.

How was a 17 year old girl not even married into the royal family responsible? King George V had way more responsibility for Tsar Nicholas II and his family's deaths. He could have gotten his cousin and his family out of Russia but he did not.

This so-called "unedited footage" was of a public event, not something taken in secret to one-up anyone. It's absolutely wonderful that "the public" is able to see video of Diana all these years later. I look forward to seeing much more video of her that I missed at the time for whatever reason. I've noticed that in the UK, being a monarchy, censorship is totally accepted as normal, especially when it concerns Diana. I see knee-jerk excuses why 'the public" shouldn't see video about Diana, such as: "it will cause pain for her sons," or "Diana didn't consent to the release." And sure enough, every day more and more video of her is disappearing from "public" platforms.
