You'd recognize The Runaway's biggest hit, "Cherry Bomb". Originally sang by Cherie Currie. After Cherie left Joan took over full lead vocals. Joan and Cherie both did lead, depending on the song. The band also contained Lita Ford, she went on to solo success with "Kiss Me Deadly", and a duet with Ozzy "Close My Eyes Forever", as her biggest hits. Fun fact, in the very begging of The Runaways, Michel Steele was the bassist. She quit, and later joined the Bangles.
@michaeljfoley19 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think Cherry Bomb was the only big hit song from the Runaways. A song written by Joan (she was 16 or 17 at the time) and manager Kim Fowley. I actually prefer the 1984 version of Cherry Bomb, when Joan re-recorded it with the Blackhearts.

The Runaways are probably more noted for the individuals who came out of that band. Besides Jett, we have Lita Ford, who had a successful metal career with hits such as "Kiss Me Deadly" and an absolute classic duet with Ozzy Osbourne called "Close My Eyes Forever". Also in that group was Michael Steele, who went on to join the Bangles, who were a hugely successful girl band in the mid to late '80s. You totally need to check out "Walk Like An Egyptian." "Manic Monday", written by Prince was also a huge hit. Then, if you like the Bangles, (and I know you will) you also need to check out the group that they succeeded as the world's biggest girl band ("band" being defined as playing their own instruments, as opposed to just four girls singing), the Go-Gos. (We Got the Beat, Vacation, Our Lips Are Sealed etc.) Besides Joan Jett, the other similar rocker chick of the MTV era was Pat Benatar, who had hits such as "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", "Heartbreaker", and "Love Is A Battlefield". Finally, I'd also recommend Heart, not a girl band per se, but the lead singer and lead guitarist were sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson. In the seventies, they were kind of Zepplinesque, with hits like "Crazy on You", "Barracuda" and "Magic Man". In the eighties, they became more of a mainstream commercial rock group (some say sellout, but they did it well) with hits like "What About Love", "These Dreams" and "All I Want To Do Is Make Love To You."

This has probably been mentioned in the comments, but….This song took on even more popularity with the premier of NBC Sunday Night Football in 2006.(USA) The music became the opening theme song for the football game, which is normally the highest-rated NFL game of each week. Different lyrics were used, however. The song was entitled, “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” and it’s been sung by different vocalists, through the years. Still, Joan’s music has been introduced to multiple generations of American-Football fans, since then, making the song immediately recognizable to more people than ever.
