Irish Girl Tries Carl's Jr For the First Time

Today I'm bringing you my Irish girl first time trying Carl's Jr.. ness. I review Carl's Jr. or Hardee's, as it's known in some parts of the USA. As someone who's loves fast food in America, I was really excited to try out Carl's Jr. and see what they have to offer on their menu aside from their famous saucy burger. Those waffle fries and oreo milkshake? Lush
One thing that really caught my attention about Carl's Jr. was their iconic commercials featuring Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton. I mean, who could forget those ads? But I was curious to see if the food was just as memorable as the commercials.
So I ordered a few different items off the menu, including their famous burgers and some of their sides. And I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! The burgers were juicy and flavorful, and the sides were the perfect complement to the main course.
Overall, I would definitely recommend giving Carl's Jr. a try if you're looking for some fast food in the USA. The food is delicious, and the experience is definitely unique. Not sure what they call the burger in Ireland, but in the US the burger you had was called "A BBQ Western bacon cheeseburger", it has bacon, onion rings, cheese, and BBQ sauce. And we usually do not dip fries in our shakes. Most Americans dip their fries (and onion rings) in Ketchup (or sometimes BBQ sauce).

The fries in the shake thing actually kinda started as a thing to do with Wendy's original chocolate frosties, because of how thick they are. Then it spread to any sort of shake, at least where I grew up.

Dipping fries was definitely a thing at Wendy's in the '70s. Sometimes if we poor HS kids back then didn't have enough money for a whole meal we'd just get a small order of fries and a small Frosty. They naturally go together. So do White Castle fries and their chocolate malts. The White Castle chain began in 1921, so dipping fries it was likely a thing at White Castle long before Wendy's. In fact, Dave Thomas said his idea for Wendy's, including the Frosty, was influenced by childhood memories of another old regional burger chain called Kewpee (est. 1923). Kewpee is very similar to White Castle with square burgers, malt shakes, and fries.

I personally think Carl's Jr/Hardee's is underrated. If you find one where the employees aren't just phoning it in and don't give a darn. If they have them there, they make biscuits from scratch every day. They are good. Their chicken tenders are pretty good also. I used to love their 'Frisco burger.

Western Bacon Cheeseburger, my personal favorite, that's the name of the burger you were eating, Diane. Yeah, I know it that well, lol. I agree with the fries/chips assessment, and although it's likely you've been told already, the waffle-looking chips are typically called "cross-cut-fries" (at least that's the case in Southern California.) Lastly, I'm a bigger fan of Carl's Jr.'s onion rings in comparison to other fast-food places. I like the bigger sizes, wide-rings with a moderate-solid crusting that doesn't just crumble off on the slightest impact that way it holds better as part of a burger or when just picking them up to eat individually, and it's still got a crisp bite to it that's not overly rigid either.

Sooo Today, Diane loves most of the food that she tries She got it from Carl’s Jr., not Five Guys Except for the “chips”, there was nothing to criticize She was even intrigued by the way they advertise She didn’t get chicken, which was quite a surprise But the burger was so nice she could give it a prize The chocolate Oreo shake was so lush, she almost cries And I’m pretty sure she’s going back for more waffle fries!

Hardee's (Carl's Jr. in the eastern U.S., with 90% identical menu) used to run ads practically advertising how loaded with calories they were. That was truth in advertising. They left the Cincinnati area where I live. Can't say I've missed them. I've lost a few pounds.

In the East, the sister restaurant is Hardee's. Basically, the same menu, but the sandwiches have different names. The model in the commercial is Paris Hilton, heiress to the Hilton Hotels fortune.

The "Six Dollar Burger" cost four dollars. The idea was it was just as good a burger you would get at a sit down restaurant like Chili's or TGI FRIDAYS...which at that time usually cost six dollars.

It was a marketing gimmick, tongue in cheek to make fun of buying a burger at a steak house. Sadly that burger was discontinued. Even more sadlyer is their normal burgers now cost about as much.

Those flat fried potato things go by different names. I’ve heard them called cross cut. The cutter goes halfway through, and then the chip is turned 90°, and then it goes through again. So you get a lot more space for the greasy oil to reach into. Add some extra salt, and you’re done! Sometimes they are called crosscut Fries. In the US, you can find them in the frozen section of most supermarkets. Already cut, ready to deep fry. The most common brand name is Ore Ida (short for Oregon Idaho, the major potato growing states.) as an Irish girl, I thought you might appreciate the information. Ore Ida makes other potato based product, like hash browns, English style chips, and pre-cut fries. Don’t forget, lots of salt and the oil/grease of your choice!

THANK YOU DIANE for reviewing the Western Bacon Cheeseburger. Far too many Carl's Jr reviews don't review the big staple items of Carl's Jr. And the Western Bacon Cheeseburger has been one of their flagship items since it was added to the menu in the 80's. I wish you could also review their crinkle-cut fries, but sadly Carl's Jr. stopped making those amazing fries in the 80's(?). Del Taco has a similar fry, but it's not the same.

When you come to the US, Hardee's is the sister company. They'll have a lot of the same menu items, but then Carl's throws in California items and Hardee's Southern items. A Hardee's chicken biscuit is the best breakfast. Many Carl's will have a Red Burrito menu and Hardee's will have a Green burrito menu.

Hardee's and Carl's Jr. were originally separate companies until Hardee's bought them out. There used to be Burger Chef, too, but they were quickly converted over to one of the other brands, although Hardee's occasionally brings out classic Burger Chef items from time to time. In Canada, we have Carl's Jr. but not Hardee's, because they got in trouble with Harvey's over the name.

Double western bacon cheeseburger is 1 of my all time favs from any place. The guacamole burger is also good 1 from them. Also fun fact. Mid 2000s they kinda reinvented there shake and took the market by storm. Everyone tried to change there recipes to keep up. They still a top shake if not the top

Normally I don't take the burger completely out of the wrapper to eat it. I keep most of it in the wrapper so all the sauce doesn't spill out on my shirt while I eat it. I peel the wrapper off as I go. It is a talent that comes with many years eating burgers but the sooner you start, the cleaner your clothes will be. Also, you don't touch your food will your dirty fingers which cuts down on getting illnesses and dirtier fingers but there is little you can do about the fries on that score. Just a small observation from an experienced fast food connoisseur.

In the US, the East is given Hardee's while the West is given Carl's Jr. They are both the same company. We also don't have waffle fries, but crispy curls aka curly fries. Their regular fries are never good, but they insist on selling them. They are also known more for their Rosst Beef sandwiches in the Midwest, with everything else also being good, except for the regular fries 🍟.

Great review. I've seen you eat fries a lot in these videos but so far haven't seen you have ketchup on them which is what truly makes them delicious. That or cheese or something like chili and cheese topping if you can get it. Not a fan of mixing fries with milkshakes myself but it is all about what goes on top of the fries when it comes to getting the most flavorful experience.

I haven't eaten at a Carl's Jr. in decades, but hands down, the very best thing they had was the California Roast Beef. Something you couldn't get anyplace but Carl's Jr.

I'm on a low sodium, low carb diet but you almost had me going to Sonic for onion rings. For some reason Carl's Jr is what they call the restaurant in the northern US, but in the south, it Hardee's, they have some of the best breakfast biscuits available anywhere. Burgers are the best i can get locally, they have never had good fries, but there's a McDonald's next door.

It's Angus beef. I don't remember if the breed Scotland or Ireland. The cross cut potato fries are called seasoned waffle fries in United States. They do make good burgers but we don't call them California Burgers in the United States.

What is this belief Irish and Brits have that you can't combine savory and sweet? Sweet and savory foods often complement each other at a dinner. A salad may have savory cheese and bacon bits, but may also include sweet fruit such as apples or strawberries. Sweet and savory foods can often be combined to produce complex flavors, as well. I believe the Irish and Brits love their roasted lamb with mint jelly. Guess what, that is a savory/sweet combination.

Chewie's showing remarkable restraint there at the beginning! My 3 would surround me and give me The Omen hellhound's glare while drooling. YES, salads at fast food joints are anathema. Plus, they're usually piss-poor in quality. Go to Sweetgreen or Cava if you want a salad.

Looks Diane is trying the Western Bacon Cheeseburger. Carl's Jr also has a Western Crispy Chicken sandwich. Years ago, I ordered a Western Bacon Cheeseburger from Carl's Jr and what I got was surprising, in a good way. The sandwich combined both a beef patty and chicken patty with bacon, onion rings and cheese and bbq sauce.

I know it's an acquired taste, but I would recommend the mushroom burger. Growing up, when we had meatloaf or roast beef, there would be mushrooms with beef gravy, and that always enhanced the flavor of the beef. We don’t have waffle fries at the Hardee’s where I am from! That’s what we call Carl’s junior here, anyways. We do have curly fries. I love curly fries! 🍟 The next time you come to America you gotta try Checkers/Rally’s (it’s different depending on where you are in America like Hardee’s/Carl’s Jr). They have the best fries in all of fast food in my opinion!!!

Carl's Jr. is in the western US and Hardees is here in the east... same/similar menu and even share national advertising. They are, by far, my favorite fast food burger... love the char-broiled flavor. I've tried just about all of the others, and some are quite good... but Hardees sits at the top of the heap in my book. Between their larger sizes compared to most others and no shortage of less healthy toppings, they are certainly not at the top of the list for the more health conscious out there. Nice treat a couple of times a year, though.

In some parts of the US (I think it’s an eastern US vs. western US thing) it’s Carl’s Jr. and in other parts it’s Hardee’s.

You really didn't know what waffle fries were? The fries go in the frosty at Wendy's. Carl's Jr. bought Hardees years ago. Hardees had the best chicken fillet sandwich ever. The quality went down but all fast food quality has in the US. My favorite fast food now is Culver's, they're probably not across the pond yet. Give chew the last bite of what you know he likes and tell him to leave you alone during the meal. After a few times, he will stop begging and the last bite of a burger is worth the unconditional love a cute doggie provides.
