My daughter got a terrible rash once. Her pediatrician actually recommended not using store bought wipes period especially during a rash. She stated even the unscented Kind can have irritants. She told use to just cut up a receiving blanket or old T-shirt and water. Or viva paper towels(they are soft) for a disposable option.

Microfleece liners, wool liners, and athletic jersey liners against babies bum when using cloth diapers help wick moisture away from babies skin. Change at most every 2 hrs during the day. I use Twinkie Tush Hybrid Fitted Diapers. More absorbent than any disposable and either all cotton or organic bamboo materials so they’re breathable! Use cloth wipes with water (I mix wipe bits) in a small spray bottle. 3 kids in and I’ve never had a diaper rash or needed a cream. Even when my babies are teething. It can be work for some but definitely worth it.

I'm living for these videos about skin care for babies! Would've loved having them a year ago, but thanks to your other videos and advice from the pediatrician, we've already been using a lot of the baby products you've recommended (i.e. lots of CeraVe)! Took some trial and error with my kid's sensitive skin, so I'm glad to get confirmation from you that we should keep doing what we're doing! Thanks!

Cloth diaper communities talk about "stay dry" liners. These can be made from micro fleece or called polar fleece at Joanne fabrics. This is different from standard fleece. Somehow the fabric allows moisture to go through but still stay dry. Some mothers use them in disposable diapers for very sensitive babies. I use them to keep my children from getting friction rash from the rough cotton of my cloth diapers.

I can't thank you enough for this incredibly informative video. I mentioned in a comment a few weeks ago that my one year old grandson was suffering with an extremely "angry" diaper rash. He wears cloth diapers, but they are designed to wick away moisture. I actually sewed a ton of organic cotton fabric, 8 inch, two layer wipes for him. used with water. (These make great baby gifts!) The cause of his diaper rash was a stomach virus. So. the poor little guy spent some serious time without a diaper!😧 I will be sharing this video!

My son had a terrible rash in his diaper area that his pediatrician diagnosed as eczema. It went on for years. Eventually we figured out it was dermatitis herpetaformis. I really wish we'd pushed for a referral to a dermatologist because we could have saved my son so much pain, as well as prevented years of gluten exposure.

My now 4 year old would have the worst diarrhea to accompany his teething. It took me a little while to figure put the best care for his sensitive bum, but what worked was to always wash him after using the wipes to completely get the acidic poo off of him. Then I'd use a blow drier on low or no heat at a safe distance to thoroughly dry him. Then I'd express some breastmilk and rub that on his bottom and let it dry followed by another blow dry and finally ending it with virgin coconut oil. The zinc oxide creams would help normally but the acidity of his teething poops instantly made his behind raw. I also liked how natural it all was and he felt so much better immediately. Of course with a baby girl you may want to use caution using coconut oil around the vulva area.

I swear by Cavilon cream. Not sure if it's available in the US, but it's a cream used for patients with incontinence, or those who are bed bound and prone to sores. Its often used in hospitals on patients here. It also works amazingly well at preventing nappy rash. We tried so many different creams marketed for nappy rash, and it's the only stuff we found to prevent it.

Its hard to find truly fragrance free wipes. I have really liked using the brand Water Wipes. Also letting my little one run around diaper-free for a little while to help air out their bum and using a zinc based diaper cream when diapered. Lastly, my pediatrition recommended soaking their bum in diluted Domboro powder, but I didnt find that to be all that effective, the "air time" made the bigger difference.

Oups...! Voici la traduction Hi! You have to take care of your little ones' skin! In addition to the problems caused by diapers and products used, these babies can have good care for other areas of their body. Many of us would probably have liked to be able to be educated at a very young age in a routine. That would certainly have saved us some problems. We talk about routine for the grown-ups but we should never forget the little ones!

My mom used to brown flour in a cast iron skillet and use that as baby powder or skin protection in the diaper. It always worked for my family.

I was wondering what you thought about dmdm hydantoin and other formaldehyde releasers?? I know companies use them as preservatives in baby products and many other cosmetics, and tbh I don't feel comfortable putting formaldehyde releasers on myself, let alone a baby. Are they dangerous or just irritating?

I use Water Wipes. You can find them in-store at Target and Kroger, not Walmart, or order online. They are water and a drop of grapefruit extract to prevent mold, thats it. They are pricier than huggies, pampers, but about the same as Honest. The only down side, I think, is that they are not accordion stacked, so when you pull one out, the next one does not pop up. That can be annoying.

Second the water wipes! At home you can even just use large cotton pads and water.

Thanks for the replies guys! So the grapefruit extract does not qualify as a fragrance? That was my concern.

@Kate Ha, well I guess that’s a question for the good Dr 😜 But I figured as it was only .1% fruit extract and 99.9% water (most other sensitive or fragrance free wipes are 99% water and then a 1% mix of surfactants and preservatives) that it would probably be ok. I also only use the packaged wipes when I’m out and about, and at home just use the large cotton facial rounds and warm water.
