Dr. Buck, I appreciate you taking the time to make a video explaining this type of hernia. There isn't much information about them on the net. I was in a motorcycle accident a year and a half ago and broke all but the #1 and #12 rib on the left side and had to have 3 plated due to non-union 4 months later. I still deal with a lot of pain from nerve damage but am just finding out a month ago that I have a diaphragmatic hernia. I felt relieved because I thought that would help with the upper abdominal pain I've been dealing with from the very beginning, but after sitting down with my surgeon he seems to think this will not help with the pain because "there are not a lot of pain receptors around the diaphragm". But I have read abdominal pain can be associated with diaphragmatic hernias, plus you mentioned it as well. I'd appreciate if you could bring some clarity to this. Thanks in advance

Dr. Buck... We rescued a four year old male feline. He had been hit by a car and had a broken leg and experienced a diaphragmatic hernia. We had him X-rayed as just a check up and that is where it was found ten years ago. The emergency vet advised not to do surgery because he felt it had adhered to too many organs and his mortality was in question. From you video, what is happening now is that there is a bulge on his left side. We can touch it and it doesn't bother him to do so. He is 14 and I know surgery is very risky at this point. On the good side, he is active, eating, going toilet well and a very happy (spoiled) cat. What is your advise. He still leaps and runs and plays. I really don't want to put him through risky surgery at this point. He had so much stress before we brought him home.

I have been trying to find out what’s wrong with me for 7 years!! I’m a professional singer and I twisted out of bed really quick one day and got a long what seemed and felt Like Charlie horse in my ribs/abdomen It finally went away after about 10 seconds. But I twisted again a week later and just kept getting these spasms in my side and abs. I’ve had every test done and I’ve found herniated discs in my back and I’ve had nerve blocks and everything but something still isn’t right. I feel like I can’t breath well, or rapidly, and it just feels like my side is going to cave in or something sometimes. I’m going to my doctor to talk to him about a diaphragm injury. I’ve read someone had gotten a diaphragm rupture from cross fit, rathe than blunt force or trauma. I find my instance was more of a twisting sports injury. I guess my question is, is that possible to tear your diaphragm very slightly from twisting rapidly and then live with it for 7 years undiagnosed? All the treatments I’ve been reading about terrify the hell out of me so any peace of mind would REALLY be appreciated! Thank you!

I have a right sided diaphragmatic herni, caused by 4 hernia's being meshed across my stomach with Johnson & Johnson mesh. It then literally ran like a ladder in stockings and went undiagnosed for over 10 years, despite frequent stays in hospital (gastro ward). I had endless outpatients, scheduled for one hernia in 2008 but for some reason it was cancelled. GP eventually refused to refer me once it starting pushing on my lung. Eventually went private and had it diagnosed. Nice consultant felt it was too large, I literally look like I have a beer belly like the Simpson cartoon, but too late for elective surgery. I was not born with this but for years was 'fobbed off' as a whiner and attention seeker by hospital staff. Breathing still laboured by not allowed to see asthma nurse and GP just not interested. So annoying.

@@Trissy33Health-Fightermuscle relaxants might make it difficult to breathe. When there is something obstructing your tidal or passive breathing, your accessory respiratory muscles kick in; if you take muscle relaxants it might weaken those muscles to a point where it makes breathing harder.

The next day of the injury I went to the ER and the Doctors made me get an X-ray and they found no fracture. They told me it was an MCL sprain, they didn't specify what grade. The Doctors also told me that I needed 2 weeks to fully recovered. Lol. It's been 12 weeks and my knee has improved but it still hurts when I do certain leg movements. Dr. Buck, I am a male, 59 years old. I think what I have is an incisional hernia.(I have been seen by 3 different Dr and they all call it differently: 1st Doc called it hiatal hernia, 2nd Doc called it diastasis recti, 3rd Doc, insist in being diastasis recti. I disagree because this bulge happened 4 months after CABEG, double by pass, open heart surgery. It has been 10 months since my heart surgery and the bulge is increasing. When I cough or sneeze it much more bigger.) I would like to set up an appointment ASAP to listen to your opinion and assessment of my condition? Please help?

First, I answer as many as possible. Second, I am under no obligation to answer any questions. Third, some I cannot answer due to lack of information. Fourth, I’ve spent thousands of hours and tens of thousands of dollars making free videos for people so they can understand these problems better. So I think I have done plenty.
