2017 hasn't been a good year for me, first op was gall bladder removal, then I needed shoulder surgery, then in may I had an aorta bifemerral bypass, and now am scheduled for incisional hernia surgery, and keyhole is not an option. here's hoping 2018 proves to be surgery free. even after all this, I remain grateful for the wonderful surgeons and staff who cared for me, there are so many people out there who are not so lucky, at least my medical conditions are treatable which makes me appriciate and be grateful every day.

Great information. I have an incisional hernia after gallbladder removal a couple of years ago. It is an omental fat hernia and it looks like half of a volleyball is sitting on my right upper side. It was discovered during a pet scan for breast cancer. I am still in radiation therapy treatment but I have been referred to a general surgeon. I can hardly wait to get this thing resolved.

I'm just two weeks into having surgery I had to have the mess. It was the size of a basket ball on my side. I had seen Dr.s that would not repair it because I'm over weight and smoke. I know, I know not good. But what I have been threw was uncalled for. My bowels had twisted and going into my stomach and I was throwing that up. I thought I was on death roll. 💀I'm still in alot of pain but it's getting better with each day. I just thank God I'm still alive to talk about this. Mine started with having to have a kidney removed from cancer. I wasn't even aware this could happen. Guess what I'm trying to say is if your up against this sort of illness don't put it off getting it taken care of. I feel as if I almost waited to late. But didn't have no choice. When I had surgery, I ended up with an incisional hernia immediately after the procedure... like an hour. Because they put the breathing tube right on the pharyngeal nerve. Apparently it made me try to caugh it out the whole time I was still under, tied down and everything. The recovery area staff thought it was hilarious. I know that because they kept joking about standing there and watching after I was out. Wide awake. Did they think I couldn't hear them, or did they just know that no one would believe me anyway. It's been a year and I'm back to not being able to move much anymore. I knew I would regret getting tricked into going in for surgery.

My spouse had had a gall bladder operation, three c-section operations for each of our three children and a hysterectomy for a pre-cancerous uterine condition. She is now suffering tremendous pain from at least 2 hernias that were discovered in April of 2018. The surgeon said she needs to lose a good deal of weight before an operation can be performed. Surgical mesh was mentioned but we hear nothing but horror stories of chronic pain in those who have had hernia repairs with mesh. The Shouldice Hospital in Canada specializes in natural tissue repair and they seldom use mesh. I would like to learn more about the right way to fix my spouse's condition before something is done that causes her chronic pain. Your thoughts?

I have a football sized incisional hernia from an ileostomy reversal. My surg and I decided I'd wear binding and try to lose 25-30 lbs and then do mesh with my repair to give me a better chance of it not recurring. My question is what's the best way to workout? I feel I'm limited. I started hiking again and trying to walk more. I thought about maybe using bands? My surg wants it to be done as soon as I can because of the size. He explained something about not having enough space in my abdominal cavity(?) because of the intestine itself may increase in size.

Is there any safe meshes? I don’t want foreign objects in my body, I just had 6 surgeries to remove my recalled implants after a double mastectomy after my breast cancer diagnosis in 2015 which required 2 major surgeries. I had a diep flap last year and my ps used my abs and thighs because I’m very thin. The incision for my abs is hip to hip and he stitched a small hernia I had but now I have this protruding lower abs. It’s awful and I know they will need that mesh. I just traded one problem for another and went through many surgeries. I’m at a complete loss.

I had my left kidney removed. After the surgery I got staples. It was painful. But they had to be removed because of some sort of discharge that was developing underneath the incision. I am told if I lose weight it will go away. But it is very uncomfortable.

@@melissastrauss2812 hi, okay so I definitely thought it was a hernia as there was a lump & I was really sore. But it ended up just being my healing process, thankfully. I went for an ultrasound for that confirmation. I'm glad I did though. I honestly would have never believed it otherwise as I was completely convinced. My advice to you is absolutely take it easy. Dont overdue anything. Hate to say it but not even a bowel movement. If you feel constipated from the medication use psyllium husk to help with that. But ask your doctor first since everyone is different. I hope I helped. I would love to hear a follow up to know that you're okay. I wish you well & happy holidays ❤

I first noticed a bulge (a little smaller than my fist) not long after my gallbladder surgery. It has become more obvious as I lose weight. I do not have pain in my abdomen but I have been having a lot of back pain. Not sure if its related because I have issues with my spine/discs. Can back pain be connected with incisional hernias?

I think I may have a hernia (or two!) from surgeries done with the robot. One on each side of my abdomen, one up higher than the other. When I bend down and lift things I can feel lower abdominal movement up and into these areas. What follows is pain and discomfort. I stand and can feel whatever it is slide back down. It happened yesterday and today I feel sore (think way too many sit ups sore). I've told two doctors about this (GYN who did the surgeries, and primary care) neither seemed too concerned.
