You could afford it if you asked for a penny each time. It wasn't so much the hokey camp that got me turned off the series, it was just the whole low-IQ approach. Dick was portrayed as kind of stupid, and the plots were kind of thin. Even for a comic series. Batman had so much more depth to him (that sadly didn't exist a whole lot in the 1950s through the 1970s).

When I was ten, I loved this show and took it seriously; there was a period when I watched two episodes in a row, every weekday after school. When I was eighteen and a half, I happened to see pieces of episodes a few times on TV-and I groaned and didn't understand how my ten-year-old self hadn't seen how bad it was. Now, I'm forty-three and watching these clips on KZbin and appreciating the series in an entirely new way.

I don't know what I'd call it, but realistic it is not There is, admittedly, a pretense of realism in Snyder's work but it is a veneer of grittiness more than anything else
