Of all the Dick Tracy games out there, the Sega version is easily the best. The novel gameplay mechanics, stiff challenge, and excellent graphics all make it a solid choice for an afternoon of shooting at everything that moves.

This was one of my favorite games growing up. I got my copy from a rental store my Dad used to be the General Manager for. One day his boss just gave him a few of the games that weren't being rented as much as before and gave them to me. He knew me because I'd come in with my Mom to visit Dad at work and I always went to the candy section and picked up something. Anyways, I got like 10 games for free and this was one of them. I loved it, and that tommy Gun action was just pure fun.

The term "cop" originated with the word "copper" which was the metal all police badges were made from, and back in the Prohibition Era through the 50's was considered an insult to a police officer.

More likely it either came from "Constable On Patrol", or "cop/copped" meaning to seize, steal, or apprehend which goes back to the mid 1800s.

I wish I'd been given the chance to rent this instead of the one for NES. I didn't get to enjoy this one until I found it through my emulation introduction in 2000, and remembered having a blast simply tearing up the streets with my Tommy Gun.

I love it! Tracy starts his investigation! Immediately opens fire on the police station. Well...that solves the case of the missing police station. ;)

I liked how the boss stages were basically all running battles with the boss across an entire stage, coupled with a last stand from the boss and his remaining health at the end of the map. Coupled with the frantic (or in the last boss's case, foreboding) music in those segments, it definitely kept you pumped! ...well, when you weren't also getting pumped in a less pleasant way that involves repeated lead enemas; seriously, this game is fun, but its difficulty curve is nuts - the first half of the game isn't too bad but this game starts coming at you like you murdered its family and fashioned their bones into toilets somewhere around the middle of Stage 5, not to even speak of the meatgrinders that make up all of Stage 6. (Also, one-picture ending. What the hell, Dick Tracy, you think this is the Amiga?)

It helps to memorize the layouts so you know when to expect enemies, and to only move forward a little bit at a time so you don't get totally bumrushed.

Wow how many people did Dick Tracy murder in the first 2 minutes alone??? You can't say it was self defense, because he shot first 100% of the time!!!! Old comment I know but in the U.S. current legal standard is that self defense homicide for a cop is justifiable as long as the cop simply *believes* his life or the life of another person may be in danger. The officer doesn't have to demonstrate the actuality of said perceived threat. Rules regarding this were presumably even less strict back in Tracys time. So thugs that Tracy knows in fact to be career criminals or at least suspected career criminals charging him with perceived malice and intent to commit harm is probably more than enough for Tracy to justifiably take them out. What is likely a bigger issue for him is that he's spraying the entire street sometimes hitting noone and shooting before he even sees someone sometimes. That's more likely to get a cop in trouble in the U.S.

cool game but it's too hard. needs to be easier on easy mode. less enemy health, more health for your character
