I think it's important to mention to anyone checking this out that Ben got "Genuine Dickies," which is a reduced quality line exclusive to walmart. They're basically the same cost as proper dickies models but with even worse materials and finish to maximize profits. Original dickies are better, but they're still like $25 USD, so the issues he brings up are still valid, just less severe.
@bendegros3 жыл бұрын
Whoops!! 😂 Oh well. I wish I knew this before I made the video. It does make a good point about whether it's worth it to make cheaper versions of a product without having it labelled as such. I would have never known there were better quality options. As far as I was concerned they were hot trash and I never would have bought them again.

The double knees from Dickies are my favorite even though it has that layer on the knee, it is just a bit more balanced and not as thick as double front pants and look really well in my opinion. It feels long enough to me but I'm 5'9 and I get a bunch of heel drag on the bottom. But I do agree that they get tattered up with relative ease. But for a quick and easy pant that I know will get abused it works well for my needs.
@TheClayHadley3 жыл бұрын
Dickies has, to my understanding, at least two lines. The stuff they ship to Walmart isn’t the same stuff they ship to their stores or if you buy direct online. Quality is still relatively low but I do think they’re better than the Walmart pants. They’re also labeled better with different fit numbers. Dickies also get WAY more comfortable when you wash and wear them a bunches. Interested to try carhartts, when I get a chance. Dickies do not cut it for these toasty southern summers.

My favorite pants for skating and casual wear are the RSQ Seattle/London from Tillys. They make them in 33x30 which was my size before quarantine, now I'm probably closer to 34. The best part: stretchy waistline. They're so comfortable and come in a lot of different colors. Plus they almost always have a buy 1 get 1 half-off. They're around $40-50 depending on material.

You touched on something important, Ben, when you mentioned the pants getting stuck to you in the humidity. Nothing’s worse than pants bunching up around my thighs, hampering the range of motion. I’ve found Rothco BDU’s and Nike SB pants to have a nice roomy, lightweight fit, which is perfect for the sweltering furnace of East Coast summers (shorts are out of the question). For the fall/winter/spring, I’ve been skating these relaxed fit, 4-way stretch Wranglers I got at Target a few years ago. Been curious about the flannel-lined work pants for the brick season, but worried they’ll feel like lead.

Hey Ben just a heads up. I don't know if dickies still does this, but their work pants used to have a material release on the waist that you could cut and it would open up the waist by at least an inch. This is kind of hard to explain, but essentially its a fold of material on the waist that when you cut the thread it will open up. Give that smaller pair a look, maybe they have it.

Yo have you heard of Carhartt's other brand Carhartt WIP? WIP stands for Work in Progress, and it's their fashion/streetwear/skate focused clothing line. I think pretty much all of their pants and denim would suit what you're looking for really well. They definitely cost more but you can also find them on sale fairly often with different retailers. The best looking pants there were the Haggar's you were wearing. I've actually been into pleated pants recently. Apparently they're back in fashion now so win win. As for Carhartt, I have a pair of their B13 carpenter jeans. Love the fit of them, but the denim they're made out of is a lot thinner than I was expecting and it's also a bit starchy. Still, they're great in winter because they're loose fit. It means I can easily wear a pair of joggers underneath them for extra warmth. I bought some Dickies jeans recently too, but they have the opposite problem from the 864's you bought. The waist is a size larger than it's supposed to be, so I'm gonna have to get them taken in a couple inches.

Super important topic to make a video on, thanks Ben! Why super important? Let me explain: I am wearing the Carhartt "Simple Pant" for Skating, Business, working and everday use for more than 20 years now, it is my go-to trousers. Once i was out to try getting some SP's in a skate shop, but they didn't have them. The seller just said: "You can buy Dickies, they're made out of the same fabric". I was almost choking when i tried to suppress my laugh :D But the Simple Pants today are a bit different. They are available in three different fabrics now. They stitching is not so soft as it was before, the Polyester was 20%, now it's 30%, which makes the fabric ("Denison Twill") a little less soft and smooth. Then there's the higher quality cotton and Cordura (iirc, see webiste), which i didn't try. They have no side pockets, just two good sized ones on the front and on the back, i never had a problem getting a bigger wallet into the back pockets. They're cut very straight, triple stitched. One of the newer ones had a broken zipper after a while (the first broken zipper on one of my carhartt's in my life), the other one had a little hole after a fall on concrete (perfectly rolled, no sliding, but quite a hard hit). They hold up really well and look just simple and loose, they are light and not too warm to skate in summer, outside of the really hot hours. Movement doesn't feel restricted in these, too, but i think they were a tad wider in the past. They're still nowhere near slim or tight and i usually buy these off the website in any available color for 69 Euros (about 80 Dollars), sometimes as low as 30 Euros in some colors on sale, usually around 50 when stil availablel in my size (29/32). Try these Ben, if you are looking for a simple, thin and loose fitted pair of trousers. You might prefer the cotton ones, which are a bit more costly.

Try Carhartt WIP, the european branch which make some cool durable jeans, but they are kinda pricey, would also recommend Polar 93 jeans.

I myself wear work pants because I only get 45 minutes to an hour after I get out of work to skate so I throw my board and skate shoes in my truck and just wear my work clothes instead of taking an extra 15 minute drive home to change and drive 15 minutes back to the park and only get to skate for 15-30 minutes. If I could change my pants I definitely would. I like a straight fit with the flex comfort or whatever you call it. Feels nice on the jewels when doing flip tricks like hard flips that require my legs to spread pretty far😂

Red Cap makes a solid cotton work pant. Wear them for skateboarding and at work as an auto tech.
