So true, Dream Theater has Octavarium. Band-Maid has Epic Narratives. Signature albums, both very epic.

I’ve thought the same thing about Rush and Moving Pictures this album is great.

Man, I LOVE it when you separate the tracks. It reminds me just how talented these ladies are. Thanks, Alan!

Barks interview on Forbidden Tale KANAMI: Yes. Actually, SAIKI had been telling me for a while that she wanted a song with a lot of development. And when I was making this song, I happened to have experienced the death of someone close to me, so I was thinking about things like "What is life?" and "What does it mean to live?" So I thought I'd like to try to express things like "What is a person's life?" and "Life has ups and downs" through music. Even though there are ups and downs and many changes, there should be a core that never changes, so I expressed that in the riff... I'm kind of embarrassed to say this myself SAIKI: Don't be embarrassed! (laughs) Miku Kobato: That's cool! Barks: So in other words, the riff is like a fixed point, and it feels like it's watching over the changes in life, right? KANAMI: That's right! SAIKI: This is a song that I thought was very wonderful from the first time I heard it. I got a lot of images when I listened to it. This is exactly the kind of song I wanted. Barks: The lyrics of this song were written by SAIKI. It's a little different from "life has ups and downs," but it seems to express a view of life. What did you want to express here? Saiki: Every day, I realize how wonderful music is, and while I was researching the history of music, I learned that there were songs that were forbidden to sing long ago, and stories that were forbidden to tell. But now, with modern technology, we have the chance to restore them and listen to them, and the reality is that we can now read stories that were once forbidden. That made me realize that art is something that never disappears, and I thought that this in itself is very romantic and beautiful. When I thought about what would happen if I expressed life in music, while asking the question "What is life?" that KANAMI asked, I thought that "living" means "we are here now." I wrote this song with the hope that even if our bodies were to disappear, someone might someday pass on this music. I was thinking that it would be nice if our music would remain in the future. I thought it would be wonderful if people in the future who would never know BAND-MAID would find out about us through this song, and if our music could give someone a push. I've experienced something like that myself. There are many musicians who were no longer in this world when I started to like music, right? But their music gave me courage, taught me the greatness of music, and gave me a push, so I wrote these lyrics hoping that I could do that someday. Akane: When I listened to this song, I got a bright future and a positive and beautiful impression, so I didn't want to ruin it by filling it with clutter in terms of the performance. I wanted to make a song that would stick in people's ears and resonate with their hearts, so the drums are unusual for BAND-MAID songs, with the same rhythm repeated. Even though there were changes for each section, there were parts where the drums were focused on highlighting the melody, so that it would fit in the ears. I just had a strong desire to deliver the melody. MISA: I felt that this song had a story and the development was interesting, so I played it while being conscious of making the different characters in each section while keeping it simple. I tried changing the touch of my picking and things like that.

I cried reading the lyrics from this song. Kanami, so sorry for your loss 😢

You think most bands do this much introspection. Maybe they do. But we can hear that BandMaid takes that thought process and transforms it into an epic narrative.

That riff is definitely badass, and I would never have picked it out of the mix. Sounds like some NES Castlevania track or something.

"How did we get *here* from what was going on 40 seconds ago?" is kinda classic Band-Maid, but they took it to a new level (imho) on some of these songs. Somebody pointed out, the folks who wanted a 12-minute prog epic got it - Kanami just did it in four minutes, and catchier than a lot of classic proggy bands.

just noticed that in the "jazz" section, Akane is holding her left drumstick in a traditional grip, a la Stewart Copeland (Police).

Really enjoyed the analysis! Especially the vocal layering
@zelbinianАй бұрын
Wow, that interval doubling of the vocals is something I most associate with Chris Cornell, just because it was often very obvious in the production when he did it. The attention to detail here is amazing.

Band Maid's songs are its own original genre performed at genius level. No copy and paste, no trite lyrics. This one is epic. Good luck for anyone trying to do a cover.

Exactly what I said when I first heard this song....this is going to take quite a few listening's to wrap my head around this one. It may be because I just can't pull a grove out of this....like most intense Band-Maid songs they get better the more you listen.....it'll come.

This song, and the album, is something to get your teeth into...a journey and takes me back to experiencing albums like A Night At The Opera or Permanent Waves. Albums that last a lifetime 👌

Alan...in my perfect world: This album would be the springboard for a new audio format. A mixing desk style app where you're free to fully fade each instrument, main vocals and harmonies in or out as you please. Unlimited listener experiences would be wild. Same with Rush, I would have bought CD release of just bass and drum tracks for many albums.

This seperating the Instrument Software is VERY Interessting. Thanks for that part were You Isolated Akane and Misa Love them both.

Chordify read it as a lot of vi - IV - I progressions in Gmaj. I believe it dipps into Dorian for some transitions but largely stays on G.

Did I hear progressive Jazz-Metal from MISA and Miku. MISA goes walking Jazz bass and Miku does a long decending cromatic chord run. So cool 🙂

I yell you what...An Instrumental release of this album would be welcome. 'Unheard World' as I call it was great...this new album is so packed with detail it's riddiculous. "Epic" is a severe understatement of the Maid Rock newly independent "Narratives" 👌👊💪❤🥳🔥🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

The songs already released earlier in the year are just Band-Maid awesomesauce! The six new songs are so tightly integrated and complex, it's going to take a Tokyo minute to assimilate. But I know I will end up loving them just like all the other 130 songs! 😉🤘 btw - We should all wish a "Good Luck" to Band-Maid's new self-run management company: Maidit, Co., LTD! Thx, Alan!
